Beautiful island style cottage with sunset views and tropical garden. If you want to experience true Hawaiian living in an eco-friendly natural, non smoking environment this is your place. Have a soak in the tub, pick fresh herbs, veggies and fruit or stroll through the beautiful gardens and commune with nature. Watch the sunset from the meditation room lanai. Furnishings and art from around the world help make Hale Meow Meow truly a special place.
My parents met and got married on Oahu in the mid 1940s. My mother was a pilot and mechanic at Hickam Field. They moved to Georgia and I grew up there. I bought this land with my sister and mother and moved to Hawaii. I have spent much of my life traveling the world and now my sister has moved and i stayed and i am a jewelry designer. I still travel to Asia a lot searching for treasures for my jewelry, and have started this vacation home and the farming. I love plants and animals so this life has been great.
Linda Grimes purchased this cottage in 1989
When I first saw this property it was nothing but a thing called christmas berry but I knew it was where I should be. It was a long slow process turning it into what it is today, but worth every bit of it. Now, I just love being here.
Linda was a delightful host, and we loved talking with her, sharing the amazing serenity and the overall thought and care that she infused into this place. Pueo is a wonderful assistant cat ambassador. A great visit and space. Would love to come again!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Hale Meow Meow. We enjoyed the layout of the house, lots of different spaces to hang out in. Lots of nice touches, including tea and coffee, olive oil and spices and some homemade jam, as well as fresh fruit from the garden on arrival. The property is about 10 south of Captain Cook and fairly close to the Mamaloa Hwy, but the great vegetation blocks any view of the cars. We enjoyed our stay and Linda was a gracious host.
We stayed here with 2 young children. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The house is surrounded by fruit trees and lush foliage. We loved the uniqueness of the home. Linda is a most thoughtful host and has provided everything one could possibly need. By far this was our favorite place we've stayed!
We really enjoyed and plan to return to this two story wooden cottage set in a small tropical forest clearing charmingly furnished with Balinese decor (including a carved sleeping loft on the upper story) and lots of windows and screens to bring in the outdoors. The kitchen was the best equipped we have ever experienced with VRBO and is set next to a dining nook with screens above the table that look out on the lovely garden.
The owner, Linda Grimes, is very warm, welcoming, and enthusiastic about the unique environment she has built up around the cottage over twenty years. We were welcomed with a beautiful selection of fruit that had been grown on the property. We are gardeners and were charmed from the instant we arrived and every evening when we returned from snorkeling, hiking, or sightseeing. Linda has a Surinam cherry growing just outside the garden gate entrance to the cottage and a Tahitian Gardenia nearby; so when returning we could pick a few cherries and smell the beguiling fragrance of the flowers as we entered our home away from home. As the day came to close we could view the sun setting from the refuge of the upstairs sleeping loft while listening to the various birds and frogs that live nearby.
We really enjoyed our stay in this quirky charming house. Linda is an outgoing, friendly, and welcoming hostess who lives in another house on the property. We were kept supplied with her homemade passion fruit jam and an amazing variety of fresh fruit from her property including a couple that our son, a botanist, had never tasted before. We would happily stay here again.
The driveway is rough and a would be a little hard to locate after dark.
My husband, daughter and I spent our first few nights of our Big Island vacation at Linda's place. We were quite enchanted with the accommodations, the property and surroundings, and Linda's hospitality. This place offers a real slice of tropical living with beautiful landscaping, views of the sunset over the ocean, and a chorus of frogs to sleep to. The beds are super comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, and Linda has all kinds of things on hand that made us feel right at home, including exotic fruits raised on the property. Linda also gave us great recommendations for beaches to visit, sights to see, where to shop, etc. This was, hands down, the best place we stayed at and are already planning a return for an extended stay.
Great central location for all sights on the Kona side of the island. There are beaches as close as 5 min. or 15 min. and a National Park just 15 min. away.
The volcano National Park is only 1 1/2 hrs. away.
