About Linda Grimes
My parents met and got married on Oahu in the mid 1940s. My mother was a pilot and mechanic at Hickam Field. They moved to Georgia and I grew up there. I bought this land with my sister and mother and moved to Hawaii. I have spent much of my life traveling the world and now my sister has moved and i stayed and i am a jewelry designer. I still travel to Asia a lot searching for treasures for my jewelry, and have started this vacation home and the farming. I love plants and animals so this life has been great.
Linda Grimes purchased this Cottage in 1989
Why Linda Grimes chose Opihihale
When I first saw this property it was nothing but a thing called christmas berry but I knew it was where I should be. It was a long slow process turning it into what it is today, but worth every bit of it. Now, I just love being here.

Beautiful property. Lovely views and sunsets every night. Kitchen is very well stalked. Linda, the owner is wonderful. She brings you fresh Hawaiian fruit everyday. She has beach chairs, coolers, snorkel stuff provided. We love to cook so the kitchen was great. The house is built in Bali style with lots of windows and openness. It has a lovely out door shower. You really feel like you are living on the Island. It is perfect if you want to get away from all the tourists and great big resorts. We loved all of her gardens and fruit trees. There is also an outside soaking tub!! Can't find a better host than Linda1
If you want a little place away from everyone this is a beautiful hidden gem.
Fantastic stay on the Big Island
This was an excellent place to stay! It was much larger than the pictures suggested, but perfect for the two of us. Excellently located for everything we wanted to do and still offered a feeling of total seclusion. We can’t wait to come back to the Big Island just to stay here!
Gorgeous grounds, an artfully designed house, fresh fruit and organic coffee beans. Just book it, you won’t be sorry. If you are looking for a tropical retreat and appreciate thoughtful indoor-outdoor design features, you will love this place. It is absolutely lovely, rain or shine. Linda is a wealth of information about the area with good directions to local hikes and beaches in the binder on the kitchen counter. There is also weirdly good cell service so you’ll just need to put that phone in a Faraday bag....or turn it off...or don’t bring it at all... We will absolutely be staying here again.
Exceptional garden and setting, lovely home
Our family (two adults and two children) recently stayed at Linda’s for five nights and can best describe the stay as exceptional overall. The home has a lot of character and is overall extremely comfortable — especially the downstairs bed. We all had space when we wanted to read or relax (including the bed in the bathhouse which was a favorite, as was the meditation room for peace and quiet). The garden and setting overall are exquisite — truly a beautiful and calm environment to start the day, and to come home to at the end of our daily adventures. We loved the area — quiet and removed from the more crowded northern Kona coast but still very accessible via a beautiful drive. Our favorite beaches were less than 20 minutes away (and we almost had them for ourselves). Linda was a great host — very friendly and helpful, with great trips and advice; accommodating our late arrival time on arrival; and providing various coffees, fruits and treats during the stay. We appreciated the recycling and composting! The only thing that would have made the stay even better would be an outdoor eating/living area, given the gorgeous garden and wonderful sea view. This was a wonderful first introduction to the Big island; we would definitely recommend staying here in terms of the location, charm, hospitality, and luscious garden.
Linda is an amazing host!
We so enjoyed our stay at Hale Meow, Meow in early July. The weather was perfect; the house unique and colorful, with amazing artistic delights everywhere; so comfortable and peaceful. Linda provides all that you need along with fruit to enjoy from her garden. We felt we experienced "true Hawaii" here. The house is away from the busy tourist center and much cooler than downtown Kailua-Kona beach area. We would surely stay here again on the big island. Thank you, thank you for a memorable first visit to Hawaii.
Great central location for all sights on the Kona side of the island. There are beaches as close as 5 min. or 15 min. and a National Park just 15 min. away.
The volcano National Park is only 1 1/2 hrs. away.
