Beautiful island style cottage with sunset views and tropical garden. If you want to experience true Hawaiian living in an eco-friendly natural, non smoking environment this is your place. Have a soak in the tub, pick fresh herbs, veggies and fruit or stroll through the beautiful gardens and commune with nature. Watch the sunset from the meditation room lanai. Furnishings and art from around the world help make Hale Meow Meow truly a special place.
My parents met and got married on Oahu in the mid 1940s. My mother was a pilot and mechanic at Hickam Field. They moved to Georgia and I grew up there. I bought this land with my sister and mother and moved to Hawaii. I have spent much of my life traveling the world and now my sister has moved and i stayed and i am a jewelry designer. I still travel to Asia a lot searching for treasures for my jewelry, and have started this vacation home and the farming. I love plants and animals so this life has been great.
Linda Grimes purchased this cottage in 1989
When I first saw this property it was nothing but a thing called christmas berry but I knew it was where I should be. It was a long slow process turning it into what it is today, but worth every bit of it. Now, I just love being here.
We just got back from a vacation at Hale Meow Meow.
This is the just the experience you want if you're looking to for a truly unique experience and resortlandia
is not for you. Linda has created a tropical paradise on her property with all sorts of fruit trees, flowers and outdoor decoration.
The house is replete with unique touches and treasures from all over the world. I loved the design of the house as well. It has open indoor-outdoor feel to it that goes well with the location. Its like one of those houses you see in Sunset Magazine. We loved the outdoor bathtub and the bohemian shower. Yet the whole place felt very private and away from it all.
The place well situated close to Captain Cook and Kealakedua Bay which has the best snorkelling on the island. The white sand beaches like Manini o'wali and Hapuna are about 45 minutes to an hours drive north. Its a closer drive if you plan drive south to South Point or further on to Volcanoes National park (we visited all above places during our time here) The drive on highway 11 around Captain Cook give you a sense of Old Hawaii with antique shops, and local dives for getting great food. Its also close to Greenwell CoffeeFarms which as fun visit. We realized how much we liked the neighborhood around Captain cook, after you drive to to Kona which is like every other tourist trap beach town with its jewelry stores, outdoor malls and overpriced food.
The house is also stocked with everything you need for the beach - umbrella's snorkels, coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs etc. Location wise - the slight elevation made the nights nice and cool at night the sounds of the frogs, crickets and other creatures truly gave you the sense of being on a tropical island.
Having Pueo come around to greet us every morning or when we got back from adventuring made us feel completely at home. The kids enjoyed wandering about the place every morning discovering trees and fruits they've never seen before. We enjoyed the tropical fruit Linda had for us and the beds were super comfortable.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and a memorable stay. Thank you Linda for the space you've created and sharing it with us all!
I've been to the Big Island many times, but my stay at Hale Meow Meow was so different and so charming, I will never forget it. The cottage is a perfect retreat filled with beauty from around the world. And Linda is such a kind and knowledgeable hostess.
we spent five wounderful laid-back days in your awesome vacation rental, surrounded by sub-tropical gardens. The house is well equipped, super clean and greatly organized. Everything is ready to spend some relaxing vacations. The location is remote. We loved being away from big tourism and resorts in the untouched nature of Big Island. We didn't expect to get so many different fruits, directly out of the garden, tasting wicked awesome. Also, the lovely typical Hawaiian flowers will remind us of a super sweet stay on your property. Thanks for everything, we will definitely come and see you again!

Linda's place is gorgeous!!! Every morning we were there we walked around exploring and finding new flowers and plants. Linda is phenomenal human, who is incredibly genreous and helpful! If you are looking to get away from town and enjoy true Hawaii, stay here!!!
Linda was a delightful host, and we loved talking with her, sharing the amazing serenity and the overall thought and care that she infused into this place. Pueo is a wonderful assistant cat ambassador. A great visit and space. Would love to come again!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Hale Meow Meow. We enjoyed the layout of the house, lots of different spaces to hang out in. Lots of nice touches, including tea and coffee, olive oil and spices and some homemade jam, as well as fresh fruit from the garden on arrival. The property is about 10 south of Captain Cook and fairly close to the Mamaloa Hwy, but the great vegetation blocks any view of the cars. We enjoyed our stay and Linda was a gracious host.
Great central location for all sights on the Kona side of the island. There are beaches as close as 5 min. or 15 min. and a National Park just 15 min. away.
The volcano National Park is only 1 1/2 hrs. away.
