About Linda Grimes

My parents met and got married on Oahu in the mid 1940s. My mother was a pilot and mechanic at Hickam Field. They moved to Georgia and I grew up there. I bought this land with my sister and mother and moved to Hawaii. I have spent much of my life traveling the world and now my sister has moved and i stayed and i am a jewelry designer. I still travel to Asia a lot searching for treasures for my jewelry, and have started this vacation home and the farming. I love plants and animals so this life has been great.

Linda Grimes purchased this cottage in 1989

Why Linda Grimes chose Captain Cook

When I first saw this property it was nothing but a thing called christmas berry but I knew it was where I should be. It was a long slow process turning it into what it is today, but worth every bit of it. Now, I just love being here.

A beatifull property on the lush part of the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Hale Meow Meow for a week to re-explore the big Island and liked it very much. Linda is a great host and provided both trip information and local fruit. The property is located on the west side of the Island south of Captain Cook which provides much of the needed services, but Kona is still easily reachable. This also makes a trip to the volcanoes park and the south side of the island easy, a car is a requirement though as nothing is within walking distance. The Hawaiian style apartment sleeps four people comfortably and has all you need to rest after a day of exploring. It even included beach shoes and snorkel equipment. The yard is lush green filled with much tropical fruit. There are some very quiet beaches nearby and snorkeling in Captain Cook bay is always great. Linda lives next door and took very good care of us and was available for advice when needed and we would like to return some day.

Unique experience in Captain Cook

  • 5 of 5

Linda is an engaging and generous host. She greeted us warmly and attended to every need and beyond. We loved her freshly picked fruit and cozy cabin in a lush garden. The private outdoor soaking tub was a special treat. Her kitchen was well stocked and the house was spotless. Bring your family, warm pajamas and enjoy the sunsets!

Special stay we will always remember!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 22 month old son, and I stayed at Linda’s beautiful property for five days—it wasn’t long enough! We loved the screened in, open-air walls and being surrounded by bird chatter and frog croaks. My son LOVED the chickens, fish pond, geckos, and most of all Pueo! The detached bathhouse and shower were among my favorite aspects of the property. Linda was beyond generous and was a joy to talk with. This place might not be the spot for any toddler (Linda has decorated the house with beautiful momentoes from her world travels) but with supervision and redirection can be done. Mahalo, Linda!

Nature & comfort

  • 5 of 5

Hale Meow Meow was a perfect fit for a girls' trip. Linda and Pueo were incredibly warm and hospitable, complete with a welcome soursop smoothie upon check-in. Every detail throughout the cottage was beautiful, exotic, yet homey. The kitchen, bookcase and bathroom were especially well-appointed. I fell asleep each night wrapped in cozy quilts, listening to a chorus of coqui frogs. Linda's place is located in a rural, jungly/forested area, so while I did encounter a few critters inside the house, I absolutely loved feeling so close to nature and spent a good amount of time in the lovely garden. Hale Meow Meow is a wonderful home base for adventures on the Big Island, but also a treasure in itself. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

The REAL Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

We stayed three nights and wish we had booked more. It's a wonderful place to relax and unwind. The outdoor bath house is charming, spent hours watching the geckos. The night time symphony of frogs is unbelievable. The cats are a real treat. Linda is a great host leaving us fresh fruit daily.

Once we arrived we wished we had brought more food as we didn't want to leave. Bring a sweatshirt for evening as it can get cool.

Peaceful and relaxing stay at Hale Meow Meow

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and granddaughter and I stayed at Hale Meow Meow for 5 nights. Linda was a very gracious owner making sure all of our needs were taken care of. It was a real treat having Pueo, Linda's beautiful cat, greet us when we arrived and visiting us on an almost daily basis. The cottage was tastefully decorated with Linda's art from her travels. Elise, Baby Sofia and I enjoyed sampling some of the exotic fruit from the many trees carefully planted in the yard. This was our second time to the Big Island, and Linda was helpful in suggesting sites to visit that we had not seen before. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the island and found Linda's cottage to be a peaceful and relaxing sanctuary to return to. We hope to come back to the Big Island someday and will definitely recommend Hale Meow Meow to friends and family. Mahalo Linda and Pueo, for a wonderful stay!
