3 Bedroom 3 Bath, Cabin On The Edge Of The Nantahala National Forest In Nc
About Brenda Guglielmina
Our family purchased this property in 2008 for weekend escapes into nature and out of the city heat. We love to to entertain family and friends in our cabin, and continue to explore the area. Every season has its own special beauty and character and we take advantage of the region year round.

Why Brenda Guglielmina chose Otto
This property exemplifies the unique and rich biological diversity of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Just east of the cabin in a hollow is a pure stand of yellow poplar trees, thus the name 'Poplar Cove'. A path to the west of the cabin wanders through a rhododendron to more surprise views. Early morning brings turkeys, grazing deer, and song birds. Its naturalist's delight!
What makes this Cabin unique
Proximity to Atlanta, quiet, and cool. The elevation (3200 feet), combined with the shade and cooling effect of tree leaves, results in an average 12 degree decrease in daytime temperatures. Four person Hot Tub with view of the mountains!! All the outdoor living spaces - its almost like camping with all the comforts of home. Closeness to an abundance of hiking trails.

Amazing Mountain Paradise
We absolutely love this property. Quiet, comfortable, relaxing mountain cabin with amazing views. The outdoor shower, clawfoot tubs and hot tub are perfect for morning showers and relaxing evenings. If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place!
Note that the cabin is a decent ways up a gravel road. An all wheel drive vehicle would probably be needed in winter months. The internet isn't the fastest, but the property owner has installed the fastest internet they have access to and it wasn't an issue for us. We were even able to stream Netflix on the provided Apple TV.
We will definitely be back!
Peaceful and serene
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Poplar Cove. Beautiful view.
We enjoyed our stay here. It was clean and views as beautiful as described. It is a steep drive, but we were informed beforehand and had no problem given dry weather conditions, one should consider weather conditions before deciding what vehicle to take. Our children loved having a "my size bed" AKA twin bed in room downstairs with king size bed to fit our toddler bed with us although there was plenty of room to put up play pen/bed if needed. We also enjoyed the hot tub. We did not have a chance to try out the bathtubs outside as well as it was to chilly to use the outdoor shower. It was about an hour from Cherokee to see the elk and not much further to Bryson City for the train ride. Owners were very responsive and honest to questions. My boys loved staying "above the clouds" and eating on the balcony discussing them! Thanks for the wonderful family memories!
Gas grill available with propane on front porch, bring some grilling utensils including tongs(some available....but not very long ones unless we didn't look good enough), griddle if you use one much like us(Electric stove, coffeemaker, and microwave available), and a baby gate to keep toddlers from going upstairs from living room if you have toddlers (there is a door to keep them from going downstairs)....nothing major that we couldn't manage without.
A great getaway house
This is a quiet, private, well kept, tastefully decorated mountain retreat with great views. Exploring the area was fun, but the best part was not going anywhere at all. Cellular service was spotty but WiFi was mostly good. A 4WD vehicle would be very handy. There are lots of books, DVDs, and games to choose from if you didn’t bring your own. If you like to cook, the kitchen was pretty well supplied but you might want to bring your own chefs and paring knives, a cookie sheet, can opener, and cutting board. Set your preferred hot tub temperature and be patient - it will get there. The master bedroom is down a flight of stairs as is access to the hot tub, soaking tubs, outdoor deck, and shower. There is a half bath down a hall from the master bedroom. A screened porch opens to the master bedroom which is nice if you want to forego AC/heat. The only thing missing was comfortable seating on both the screened porch and upper deck.
Beautiful Cabin Location, No hottub during winter!
We loved our stay and everything about except the fact the hottub is not in service during certain times of year. The owner should not have hottub listed as a searchable ammenity or more clearly state when unavailable. This was a big disappointment for our group when we discovered the hottub was out of service. When discussing our disappointment with the lack of hottub over the phone with the owner, the response was: I’m happy to refund you if you chose to leave and find another place to stay. What a great solution...Let’s pack up two families and 3 kids and go search for a different place on New Years Eve! Also be sure to bring your own toilet paper, paper towels, and ice. Beautiful view, great cabin, no solution offered for lack of hottub when not clearly stated in discription, we won’t be staying here again.
Again, the site listing clearly stated that outdoor amenities are turned off for the winter and PRICES ARE DISCOUNTED because there are no outdoor water features. Winter weather destroys the outdoor shower, tubs and hot tub We do recommend guests read all of the information provided prior to booking a reservation. We offered guests a full refund - however they wanted to stay at the cabin for free - sorry not an option.
So much potential...
This is a lovely house in a lovely, secluded spot. I think in the Summer/Fall it is ideal. In Winter, there are pros and cons to the house. I'll start with the PROS:
1. Private (in the winter with no leaves though you can definitely still see the 3 houses next to you).
2. We saw deer 2 days we were there.
3. Stars for miles on a clear night.
4. THE VIEWS!!!!!!
1. You can't see from the pics but the master downstairs in basement has no shower or bath on that floor, just a half bath down a long and cold hallway. So you have to go upstairs to shower, which is weird for a master bedroom.
2. Cold basement because they don't have separate units. Makes upstairs too hot or downstairs too cold.
3. Very slow/low bandwidth wifi. When it's raining and winter and no hot tub, you rely on movies. The advertised apple tv and renewed wifi was a bust as the lag was so bad it wasn't worth watching.
4. Tiny kitchen. (though very well stocked!) And tiny kitchen garbage can the size of a bathroom can with nowhere to keep the garbage except in the tiny kitchen. Owner notes say don't put on porch or varmints get it but they don't provide any outdoor cans to store it.
5. I've never stayed in any rental that made you clean out the fireplace before you leave.
6. Due to heavy rains, the driveway stressed us out a bit for our non-4wd cars. We had to park one up on the road as we were worried the driveway would be too wet to get back up.
7. No outdoor tubs in winter. Seems like it would be smart to offer at additional fees (dewinterize/winterize) since this is a popular feature.
I'd love to come back in Fall/Summer/Spring to experience the outdoors more.
Harsh winter weather destroys outside plumbing, as a result we have to winterize the soaking tubs, outdoor shower, and hot tub. It is not practical to de-winterize for each guest arrival and risk the damage. We do decrease the off season rental rates since these features are not available.
We asked guests to clean the fire place upon departure to remove burning embers and reduce the risk of fire. Additionally, cleaning the fireplace allow us to close the flu, reducing downdraft, preventing ashes from blowing into the living room, and conserve energy.
We have recently upgraded to satellite internet, which provided us the fastest service available for such a remote location.
Many people enjoy gemming nearby.
