About Alice

Originally from small towns in the East, we came separately to attend UC Berkeley in the late sixties. We met there, we married there. As much as we loved Berkeley for all that was good and bad, at that time it was not a place to raise three small children! So we moved to Marin County long before it became the mecca for travelers from all over the world, and the many who settle here.

Alice purchased this apartment in 1993

Why Alice chose The Bay Area

When we first set eyes on this house and land we knew that we wanted to own it. However, the owner then was not quite ready to sell. It took him more than a year to decide to do it!The house had good bones, and was located beautifully on the lot, so all we had to do was modernize it There is never a day goes by when we do not look around us and realize how lucky we are to be here! Pristine and private! Come share a bit of paradise with us.

What makes this apartment unique

Sun, Sun. Our property is adjacent to over 200 acres of open space with miles of hiking and biking trails beginning at the top of our driveway. We enjoy sweeping views, complete quiet, and total privacy. As the land is terraced ,we can barely see or hear our neighbors. Our has only the cars which go to the 6 homes beyond us. In spite of the serenity, we are only a five minute drive from the small village and grocery store which Mill Valley is famous for and 10- minutes to 101, the freeway to San Francisco

An Oasis of Every Kind....

  • 5 of 5

What a delight to share my thoughts on such a thoroughly exceptional experience at Alice and Michael's oasis in Mill Valley. My expectations of this hidden gem were superseded in every way during my mother's stay there. I was searching for a well appointed, conveniently located and charming accommodation for my mom here in Marin, so that she could be close to me and her grandkids, and I couldn't have asked for more. The apartment itself is so welcoming and beautifully curated: from the artful comfortable linens, to the impeccable bathroom, to the most convenient and well stocked kitchen, to the gorgeous surrounding gardens and views, to the eclectic and cheerful art hanging on the walls....this place is sublime! But perhaps most importantly, you could not find your hosts to be more pleasant, charming, generous and accommodating during your stay. Upon my mom's arrival, the fridge was stocked with fresh organic produce, a plethora of local culinary delights, and a bottle of my mom's favorite wine. Alice and Michael could not have been more thoughtful during my Mom's stay.....they made every effort to make her as comfortable as possible and went above and beyond to share their wonderful knowledge of all things Marin, replete with great company for suppers, a visit to a local art show, and even a quickly needed recommendation for a great local dentist! I feel so lucky to have discovered this magical haven......it was by chance that I happened upon this VRBO listing, and immediately signed up once I saw the pictures and read the glowing reviews. Once I got connected with Alice, we realized that she was from the same small town in upstate New York that my dad is from, and she had known my Dad's family for many years, and that's when I realized the stars truly had aligned....and I'm so very grateful they did. It feels as though we've been friends forever, and coming over to Alice and Michael's place feels very much like coming home........hope you find the same when you discover this heavenly abode!

A tranquil retreat with warm and wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

My husband, then-eight-month-old daughter, and I spent two months in this cozy and welcoming apartment at the end of our house renovation. Alice and Michael are the nicest and most thoughtful of hosts, and they made us feel truly at home by welcoming us and our daughter with open arms. We really enjoyed getting to know both of them during our stay. Long-time Marin residents, Alice and Michael posses a wealth of knowledge about local activities and restaurants as well as Mill Valley history and politics - and they're eager to share their recommendations and insights.

Their home is in a stunning spot up on a ridge bordering the Camino Alto Open Space Preserve, and it's very private and quiet, with gorgeous views. Great hiking trails in the preserve are mere steps away, and the drive into downtown is quick (although the house feels worlds away). The accommodations are very comfortably appointed and nicely maintained, and the back yard is delightful when the sun is out. It was rainy and stormy for much of our stay, but that weather offered its own delights, with blustery winds and dramatic clouds.

We'll stay here again in a heartbeat if we ever need short-term lodging in the area, and we'd highly recommend it to others!

My happy place . . .

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this gorgeous cottage for 2 weeks. I am a very busy, executive female who just needed to take a mental health holiday. This peaceful property, tucked away against a forest at the top of Mill Valley was exactly what I needed. Just a 3 min drive to downtown Mill Valley, and 10 minutes to Corte Madera, Sausalito, and San Rafeal. I went into San Francisco a few times, and that was only 30 minutes, as well. The hosts are lovely people who stocked my fridge with breakfast and snacks due to my very late arrival from SFO. I am already planning on going back in the Spring!

Mill Valley Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Mill Valley is one of my favorite places on Earth and staying in this fantastic Guest suite was just perfect! Close by to hiking, easy walk to town, or mostly just relax by the beautiful pool in a very serene setting. Alice and Michael are such delightful hosts. If you are lucky, you will have a chance to join them on the deck for an afternoon glass of wine.

The best possible place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying I don't think this place, our hosts, and Mill Valley could have been any better. We loved our stay here. Every morning was begun by sitting on the amazing veranda with our coffee. As the days rolled by we found it more and more difficult to get our day started. We were greeted by humming birds within inches of where we sat. A few feet away were bird feeders that were always being enjoyed by the cute little birds. The hosts were so wonderful that I hope we have become life long friends. What can I say about this area?? We hiked almost every day. When we weren't doing that we jumped over to San Francisco. If you time it right, it is just minutes away. Muir Woods is a hop, skip and a jump away. But who even needed it-we had our own Redwoods on our hikes (and even in the yard). The beautiful coast is a short drive. Napa and Sonoma within easy reach. Farmer's Markets in all the charming nearby towns. Need I say more? The only caveat is that I want the place to myself so don't stay there!

Amazing View, Minutes from Golden Gate!

  • 5 of 5

This place is perfect! I stayed there for a month while looking for a job in the Bay Area. Right up the hill from charming downtown Mill Valley and a speedy commute to San Francisco. The apartment opens up to a scenic backyard overlooking the valley with views of the fog rolling in over the mountains in the evening. Fantastic hiking trails immediately up the hill. But the best part is the owners. They are extremely welcoming. They invited me up for dinner and drinks many times over the month. Great people!
