Wonderful house recently restored nineteenth century, located on a large estate with two private pools decks, gazebo, barbecue, car parking within the estate, grass meadow with fruit trees and garden. The house has 460m2 on three floors, six spacious rooms, fully equipped kitchen, shower, wifi, TV and other entertainment .. You rent the whole house and the farm.
This is a spacious villa which actually has seven bedrooms and can sleep up to 14 people. There were nine in our party so there was plenty of choice of rooms.
The kitchen and utility room were very well equipped and there were nice touches like dishwasher and washing machine tablets provided. The bathrooms were fine with good strong showers.
The location is delightful with lovely views of the hills to the front and back and easy access to the main roads and motorways to explore the area. Cantabria is surprisingly rather like Switzerland in geography and appearance - not the barren Spain further south. The air temperature was lower than other parts of Spain but it felt very hot because we were high up.
Regrettably, the villa had not been well prepared for our arrival. Although we were told it had been used the previous weekend, the house smelt musty and seemed to have piles of dust in places. As the two weeks went on, we found these were in fact piles of insect eggs which hatched progressively, infesting rooms, drawers and even one of the beds. We also had allergic reactions to the dust/insect eggs in the sofas in the main living room on the second floor.
Neither was the villa well maintained during our stay. Although friends of the owner came in a few times to attend to the two pools, we did not see anybody test the water. One of the pools remained cloudy all holiday so we decided not to use it. We cleaned the other pool ourselves using the machine but were unable to tell if the water was healthy or not.
The cleaner came in half way through the holiday but did not change the towels, forgot to change one of the beds and did not clean the bathrooms. She returned (resentfully) a couple of days later after we queried with the owner what should have been done.
In fairness to the owner's son, who was responsible for the property, he spent several hours preparing the villa for us but had been left too much to do. He was also very responsive to comments, arranging for people to come and look at the pools and chasing up the cleaner. He also shared our concern that the internet did not work for the first week - unfortunately the whole valley was down following a thunderstorm, but he worked hard to get us back online, even arranging for the communications company to come out and repair the installation.
In conclusion, we would not recommend this property. It could be great, but it needs a thorough clean and a proper maintenance regime.
This house is a wonderful place to stay! It is approached via a private driveway (access through an electric gate), leading to a large space to park multiple cars. The immediate impression is one of space and grandeur. Outside there are two pools, and a covered eating area with a brick built BBQ. The house is very grand, and beautifully presented. Each room has is own unique character, with lots of period furniture. All the facilities worked fine (washing machine, drier, dishwasher, etc.). There are 6 main bedrooms, plus two extra 'overflow' ones if needed. The top floor (under the roof space) is an enormous games room with table football, sofas, TV, DVD, board games, music centre (and a working gramophone!!). There are no fewer than 3 balconies to survey the beautiful scenery, plus a large aviary in the grounds (with lots of lovely colourful birds in). The hosts are very friendly and helpful with good English. We thoroughly enjoyed moment there, and would recommend it anyone. Its really well suited to large extended family holidays.
Qué decir de esta fantástica casa, de sus amabílismos propietarios. Todo una gran sorpresa en un marco de ensueño
Vale la pena todo, no hay absolutamente queja de nada
un 10 absolutamente!
we stayed with 2 family's (10 persons) in this spacious house. we had lot's of space ( you can sleep with 14) The house is well equipped and the place gives a lot of privacy because of the stone fence and the electric gate. It's near a busy road so the first day's you hear the traffic.
outside a big lawn, 2 pool's and a covered picnic/barbecue place. It's nice that the pools are covered so you can also swim on colder day's ( there are in this area); there could be some more sun chairs. A former comment mentioned that the house wasn't clean, but we didn't had that experience. When we arrived, was everything clean and okay, only one pool wasn't clear during a week. The owner (son) was very helpful in good english. The area is very beautiful and not touristic at all ( little problem is that only a few people speaks english (so knowing soms spanish helps). Gorgeous beaches within a half our drive and picos de europa 1,5 our drive ( = must see) also horsebackriding in Abiata was a nice experience. We had a nice vacation in this house in which you can feel the old grandeur.
