Overview

About the property

6 bedrooms all ensuite, modern open-plan living and dining space for 12 people

Can Lledo is totally unique - modern, spacious and open-plan, yet this farmhouse conversion still retains many original features. It is nestled in the Gavarres hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with views down to the Costa Brava that really take your breath away. Within these hills, the house is set in 54 acres, with truly beautiful gardens, a stunning infinity swimming pool, and an abundance of natural forest paths to explore. We have a tree house on the path down to one of our fields, and this begins a walk which takes about an hour to explore the trails within our land.

The interior is sleek and modern and all rooms have been thoughtfully furnished. Upstairs are 4 large double bedrooms, 3 of which have incredible panoramic windows and 1 boasts a terrace and chairs for a little more 'me' time. There is room with 2 bunk beds, which is perfect for children, and a couple of fold-down beds and cots should you need more beds. There is another double bedroom downstairs with optional twin beds. All bedrooms have modern ensuite bathrooms.

Living space includes a large open-plan kitchen with all mod cons and a dining room that seats12. There is a fully equipped utility room next to the kitchen. To make the most of the views, we have designed the house so that from the kitchen and dining room, you can look out of the enormous windows to take it in at all times.

A large yet cosy TV room adjoins the games room, and is the perfect place to chill out with a good dvd. The huge sofa can seat 10 people and there are bean bags and a rocking chair for extra relaxation. The games room is full of fun, with a ping pong table, table football, and darts to get competitive.

The open-plan kitchen is centred around a big island, and opens onto an beautiful stone-arched outdoor eating area. The table seats 12, and is perfect for al fresco dining overlooking the pool. There is also a coal barbeque which is ideal for cooking the Catalan dish of 'mar y montanya' - literally meaning 'sea and mountain' and referring to the way they combine both seafood and meat. Our favourites are large prawns and steak!

Website: Can Lledo has a private website giving further details of the house, the local area, things to do and further information about local amenities. At the time of booking, we can give you access to the website to help you plan your stay.

Activities: There are so many things to do in the area, although you may want to sit back and relax by the pool for the week at the house. We have a detailed information folder at the house listing everything there is to do in the area. Some examples of activities you can do are: kite surfing, windsurfing, fishing, sailing, diving, ballooning, golf cycling, cycling, horse riding, hiking, go karting, boat trips and kayaking.

Culture: There are many beautiful historic towns near Can Lledo and again we list all of these attractions on our website and also in our information folder. You might want to visit the stunning cathedral or walk the wall of the old town in Girona. You may want to drive for an hour south to Barcelona. There are various museums, the house and birth place of Salvador Dali, stunning beach coves and seaside towns such as Palafrugell, Sa Riera, Begur and Llafranc. Besalu bridge is worth a trip, as is Cadaques. The Pyrenees are breath taking on the drive from the airport up to Can Lledo, and only an hours drive away.

Extras: As well as our private website and information book with details and information on so many local attractions, we can also put you in touch with a number of people who might make your holiday more relaxing and special. Should you want to go out and leave the children, we have a great local babysitter; if you would like an evening of Catalan cuisine, we can organise a chef to come to the house; and if you feel like you need to unwind even further, we have a yoga teacher and massage therapists who can come to the house for individual classes and sessions.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Yes we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The games room and the pool kept the kids all entertained. We found the barbecue area was a great place for chilling in the evening and had BBQ’ s most nights. Thanks for the Chef info, Joan Marce came over on the Wednesday night and barbecued some nice local dishes. We stayed fairly local to the villa and hired bikes for 3 days from catalan cycles and cycled down to the next village for lunch, although the hill was a bit too much for the younger ones.

Girona was a great place to visit which we really enjoyed. We ventured to the beach one day but it was packed. Would thoroughly recommend it to our friends and who knows maybe we’ll be back.

Amazing villa in a beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

Before we arrived in Spain we had received such helpful tips, information and advice from the home owner Nicola, she is an absolute pleasure to do business with.

When we arrived at the villa we were met by the lovely Parker who showed us around and helped us with any questions we had.

Once we entered the villa we were so excited at how beautiful and big the house was, the pictures on the site really dont do it justice.

We were all blown away at how beautifully designed the villa was, it had the rustic charm of the farmhouse exterior but had a luxurious, modern interior with a well stocked kitchen, having everything we could possibly need made it such a joy to cook with a glass of wine in the evenings once the children were in bed.

A few evenings we used the BBQ area away from the house which also has a small kitchen and ate down there which was beautifully lit by fairy lights.

As we were sharing the villa with four other couples and four children it was a real bonus to have so many areas to use that it never ever felt cramped.

The layout is very well thought out.

My husband loved using the tennis courts nearby, I loved using the pool and going for walks with my son, infact there was so much to do that you could just stay and relax at the villa without having to leave.

We received tips from Nicola about where to shop, eat, visit and everything was very easy to find and conveniently located.

A few of our party went to the beach, a Salvador Dali Museum and Michelin starred restaurants, which i would recomend you book well in advance.

The food and inexpensive good wine in this area was a real highlight of our trip.

We organised a chef to come to the villa one evening to cook for all ten of us and a great time was had by all.

We had such a wonderful time away making some very special memories with family and friends, I highly recommend this property.

We travel lots and have never wanted to revisit a property or area but we will be back.

Can Lledo is a very special place.

Can Lledo is a truely wonderful place to relax and enjoy life

Fabulous family vacation in a wonderful location. The time went too quickly, would repeat again in a minute. Everything was as promised and more, not to mention that Parker, the groundsman, was extremely friendly and helpful.

Stunning retreat

  • 5 of 5

Perfect house for a family holiday. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's a short ride from Girona airport, in the most glorious of settings and a heaven for kids!! There is a pool, tennis court, trampoline and great games room. This in turn meant it was a heaven for the adults as they were kept entertained.

The house is big and well equipped so no one felt on top of each other which is a big bonus when there are 6 adults and 6 kids !!

There was lots to do in the vicinity and although we were all quite happy staying in at night there are some great restaurants near by. If you are going with children and fancy a night out I would suggest visiting Monelles.

Highly recommend visiting this beautiful corner of the world xx

Almost perfection

  • 4 of 5

The first thing to note about Can Lledo is the views. We had a week at the end of May/early June with frankly dreadful weather and so didn't get to enjoy these as much as we might have but when the weather did clear the views were spectacular. The house is also equipped to a very high standard with good rooms and plentiful en suites. The house is very family friendly with a good play/games room and trampoline/tennis court as well alongside sufficient green spaces for football/children running round. The kitchen is also very well equipped. The one thing that stops the house from getting 5 stars is the pool heating. The pool was a reasonable size for our party 3/4 adult swimmers and 3 children but would be small for a larger party. However the main issue with the pool is that it is heated to 21C. This is warm enough to make it possible to swim (we had the children in wetsuits) but not comfortable. 24C or 27C would be much better. The other thing to note is that there is an excellent estates manager on site who has two large dogs. These are the best-trained dogs we have ever come across and successfully cured my children's dog phobia but it is worth knowing that they are there. My kids would love to go back to Can Lledo, as would I, but it would have to be the height of summer or the pool heating would have to be increased before we did so.

A little slice of heaven!!

  • 5 of 5

Can Lledo was fabulous in every way for five ladies on holiday. From the gorgeous views to the well equipped kitchen to the fabulous bedrooms with private baths to the pool etc, we could not ask for more. The bedrooms all had wonderful views and were equipped with all cotton bedding. We had the BEST weather and visited quaint old gorgeous towns from the hills to the Mediterranean. And the "piece de resistance" was having Parker the landlord who was so friendly and accommodating in every way. I can't wait to go back and take my family some day.

A piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a peaceful stay away then this dream Villa is the one you are looking for. Surrounded by mountains it offers a views you will never forget. Just take a seat in the balcony, by the pool or some of many places around the house and relax. We stayed there with three families 6 adults and 6 children and everyone found a preferred activity the house offered - the kids enjoyed the heated pool (cost some extra but was worth it in the middle of autumn :)), as the adults were playing tennis and basketball and some of quest were even picking the mushrooms on the site :). The house was equipped with everything you need and in case you need a help, Parker, a really nice guy, looking at the household there, was always nearby and happy to help you. Make you shopping in Cassa de la Selva, in Caprabo . Nicola can give you good tips what you can buy there. If you are to lazy to cook for yourself, we suggest to use Cafe Frankfurt for take away. We used them in the last evening and the food we got was really good, also reasonable priced. Our best recommendations for this house, hope to come back here.

Car: recommended

Can Lledo is situated in the rolling hills of Catalonia, Spain, near to the Costa Brava, rightfully famous for its breathtakingly beautiful coastline. The historic city of Girona is only 30 minutes away, and the airport to fly to is Girona Barcelona.

The house is nestled in the Gavarres hills, with the infinity pool boasting stunning views down to the coast, but it is easy to explore the region. You can find the beautiful towns of Monells or Sant Sidurni de l'Heura within a 20 minute drive, and be at the beach within 30 minutes. The coast has wide beaches of golden sand and crystal clear waters or little coves backed by sheer pine covered cliffs. Palamos, Palafrugell, Pals, Sant Pol, Tamariu, Aguabrava, and Sant Marti d' Empuries are some of our favoutie beaches and can be reached in half an hour.

The interior of the Costa Brava is every bit as stunning as the coast, with pristine medieval villages set in lush Mediterranean landscapes. Begur, Cadaques and Peratallada are all well worth a visit, and Roses further up the coast is a picturesque hillside town of whitewashed houses.

The nearest town to Can Lledo is Cassa de la Selva, 10 minutes by car, with great supermarkets, ATM, petrol station, hospital and the majority of your day to day needs. Monells, Sant Sadurni de l'Heura and Bisbal d'Emporda are gorgeous villages to wander the streets and take in the Catalan customs. Bisbal d'Emporda is known for its pottery and is host to an excellent hotel and restaurant called Castell D'Emporda.

You may just want to sit back with a good book by the pool, but if you want to explore the region, there are many day trips and excursions to tempt you: shopping and dining in Girona or Barcelona, visiting Salvador Dali's house and museum or home town of Cadaques; wandering the vast Greek and Roman ruins at Empuries; or heading out for some fun at Aqua Diver water park!

There are award-winning golf courses nearby, PGA Catalunya being one of them, as well as incredible cycling...Lance Armstrong lived and trained in Girona, and the area is renowned for serious road cycling. Great hiking, tennis, horse riding, sky diving, rock climbing and all water sports are within 30 minutes of the house for those of you who love being busy on holiday. We have a private website and information pack with contact details for all of these activities and excursions.

The nearest city to Can Lledo is Girona, host to one of the greatest cathedrals in Spain and a beautiful city to wander around. The old town is the place to head for, with meandering cobbled streets and great al fresco dining. The food in Catalonia is an exquisite mix of traditional and fusion, and there are plenty of restaurants to visit, both in Girona and neighbouring villages. We have a collection of our favourites and highly recommended listed on our website and in our information pack, and will gladly advise you :)

Other Activities:

Watersports:

The nearest beach is 25 minutes away and there are endless choices for beaches: little coves for snorkelling or huge long and sandy for windsurfing. You might want to snorkel or scuba, try kite surfing, take a trip deep sea fishing, or ride a banana boat. We are happy to help with information on all of the many watersports here.

Golf:

The golf in the area is some of the best in the world and home to PGA Catalunya, often voted the number one course in Sapin and host to the Spanish Open. PGA Catalunya is 30 mins drive from the house and there are a further 6/7 fantastic golf courses to chose from within 50 minutes of the house. Our welcome pack has a detailed listing for each including contact details and maps to each.

Ballooning:

One of the most special early morning activities we have done here is take a hot air balloon ride. Starting near the coast and heading over picturesque villages and the hills, this is a truly magical way to see the region. And finish it all off with a huge Catalan breakfast!

Cycling:

The area is famous as a Tour de France training ground, and it is not unusual to see professional teams cycling along the winding mountainous roads, as well as locals who love the sport and take it seriously. Whether you like road biking or prefer the challenge of mountain biking the trails around the house, we know a bike company that will deliver bicycles to the house. A great way to test your fitness and see more of the region.

Ski:

The house is situated a few hours from the Pyrenees which boasts superb skiiing in the winter months. It is possible to drive there after your stay at the house but I would not recommend doing a day trip across the mountain for a days skiing as the winding roads would not make for a relaxed day! However, Can Lledo could be the perfect location to stay for a week before heading off for a week in the Pyrennes skiing or hiking.
