Our house is set in the picturesque Midi-Pyrenees countryside, which is the perfect setting for many outdoor activities, walking, cycling, and fishing. The market towns of Lembeye and Maubourguet are close by and the pilgrimage centre of Lourdes is half an hour away. The holiday and skiing centres of the Pyrenees, with all they have to offer, are an hour's drive. There are plenty of nearby Golf Courses and during the summer there are the festivals in all the major towns, Historic Cars in Pau, Country Music at Mirande, and Marciac hosts the world famous Jazz festival. The Tour de France always has a stage or two nearby and is a terrific sight with its cavalcade of sponsors vehicles as well as the riders themselves.
This really is a lovely house - large and full of character with an acre of well kept grounds and a superb pool. It's in a tiny hamlet which suited us as incredibly quiet with no passing traffic. It's surrounded by lovely rolling countryside and a great view of the Pyrenees in the distance. In August it was also very hot (no complaints!). We will certainly be back here!
A bucolic delight. We stayed longer than planned having sampled the sheer loveliness of the setting. Amazing views yet secluded. We all noticed how fresh and stimulating the air is. Owners have put thought into recreation with cycling, table tennis and golf opportunities and an elegant swimming pool. There are excellent restaurants within 20 mins drive. Visits to Pau and Lourdes recommended. As old Arnie once said, "I'll be back!"
We had a truly wonderful time and are looking to book again for next year.
The property was amazing, well equipped and obviously a loved second home. Nicky, the caretaker and James, the gardener were charming and most helpful.
If you want an action packed holiday then this is not for you but there is lots to see and do if you are happy to embrace the French lifestyle.
We were sad to leave and are already looking forward to going back.
We unfortunately had a problem and broke down on route which delayed us considerably. However when speaking to the caretaker she helped calm us by advicing where to get the key and that there was a welcome pack to help us unwind on arrival.
The only adverse comment was that we could find no instruction on what to do with rubbish and therefore left it with the bin on site.
Gascony is one of France’s best-kept secrets. (In fact you will not find it as an area on maps). This rural area stretches from Toulouse in the east, south of the Garonne River to the foothills of the Pyrenees. This southerly position allows for a sunny warm climate without the bustle and crowds of the Mediterranean coast.
Our house is set in unspoilt countryside, within an hour of Lourdes, the Pyrenees and Pau. Our local town, Lembeye, is 3 miles away. The annual festivals of Jazz and Country Music take place close by in Marciac and Mirande and there are plenty of nearby Golf Courses for all abilities.
The Pyrenees and surrounding Countryside are a walker's paradise and the local lakes and rivers provide the opportunity for plenty of fishing, boating or swimming.
