About Rose Smoker

We (Jeff and Joanna) have been married for 20 years and have 5 wonderful children. We offer this property for you to enjoy while we spend time in ministry in Colorado.

Rose Smoker purchased this house in 2012

Why Rose Smoker chose Pennsylvania Dutch Country

I, (Jeff) grew up around the corner from this property and spent a lot of time as a kid working for the previous owner. It was a dream of mine to someday own this homestead. That dream came true in the fall of 2012 and since then we have restored the original house and built an addition that has the kitchen/dining room and master suite included.

What makes this house unique

The quiet, secluded setting with surrounding meadows and stream make this a perfect place to get away and unwind.

Beautiful Home and Property

  • 5 of 5

It is rare to find a vacation home where the adults can relax and the kids are entertained without running around all day. But this home was it! I wish that we had more than 3 nights because my nieces had a ball with the creek, Alpacas and play area outside (not one, I'm bored the whole trip!). And for those of us over age 7 it was a peaceful and relaxing piece of heaven. All of this and I haven't even mentioned the beautiful and roomy home. I have never stayed in a rental with so much charm and beauty. Thank you Jeff and Rose for allowing us the opportunity to enjoy this place!

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

It is rare to read such consistently stellar reviews of a property, but all the accolades are true. We stayed at this 1836 Stone House for three nights in order to attend our nephew's wedding in Lancaster County. Seven adults and two infants comfortably resided in this beautifully renovated and recently constructed addition to the historic home. All rooms were meticulously clean, and the house felt like a spread in Better Homes and Gardens. We enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen, TV room, and "reading" room that the babies used an an area to play with their toys. The outdoor space was lovely--nice landscaping, alpacas to entertain, and seating for outdoor meals. This beautiful home was the perfect place to bring family from all over the country together to celebrate a joyous occasion. Our host, Rose, was especially helpful and pleasant. I would definitely return to this lovely house and property.

Had such a great time that we are planning a revisit

  • 5 of 5

Property was beautiful (and huge).

The pictures and description of this property do not do it justice.

The house is pretty neat - One side is the original restored 1836 stone house and the other side is sleek and modern (I was in love with the kitchen)

The grounds feature a fire-pit, gas grill, huge trampoline, playground, four friendly alpacas and a kid-friendly creek (our 3 year old was able to manage even the deepest parts). The grounds themselves are huge - the kids had a great time playing soccer and lacrosse.

The home is secluded, its bordered by corn and wheat fields and is far from any public roads.

If you are into theme parks - Dutch Wonderland and Hershey park are approximately an hour away

Within 30 minutes of the house however you can find the following attractions: Cherry Creek Adventure Farm (Corn Maze), Strasburg Railroad museum and Kitchen Kettle village.

Dutch-way supermarket was the nearest grocery store (~10 minutes away)

All-in-all; this was a great stay. The property is great and 2 families can easily share with plenty of space for all

Second time-just as good!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the property, and it was just as amazing as the first! We were all very comfortable with the accommodations, and the home is extremely child friendly. Our little ones enjoyed running around the massive, well maintained property and visiting w the animals.

Convenient to all the attractions, we visited Dutch Wonderland, Strausburg train, and Kettle Village. The owner was extremely easy to work with. I cannot say enough about how great it was.

Character and Charm

  • 5 of 5

Restored home doesn't do this house justice - the original stone farm house had an entire wing added that was built with the craftsmanship and quality of a professional builder. The exposed stone along the main stairwell showcases the roots of the original structure while gently transitioning the new wing into modernity. The new kitchen is a wonderful place to gather and prepare meals. The farm table had seating and room for our entire party. Would definitely stay again. Make sure you take at least 1 walk around the beautiful acres that surround this gem!

Wonderful family style home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second family holiday in this wonderful home. Fantastic state of the art kitchen. Room to spread out but also to be together.

The area is also interesting with beautiful landscape, several museums and other sites-- and less than an hour from Philadelphia. I highly recommend it.
