Morpho Eco Retreat is an eco-friendly, designed villa perched above the jungle valley. The villa is a unique vacation rental in the southern area of Costa Rica due to its unusual design and great privacy.
This special property, situated on four acres, just 10 minutes up the mountain from the town of Uvita, is ideal for those who seek modern comfort, an outdoor lifestyle, and amazing views.
Highlights of the property include " Infinity Plunge Pool with an unobstructed, view of the Whale's Tail National Park below", as well as river access with a waterfall and swimming hole within walking distance while remaining on the property. The main deck, which functions as the outdoor dining area, offers daily opportunities for bird-watching and the westward view offers a wonderful vantage point of Cano Island, one of the finest destinations for snorkeling and scuba diving in Costa Rica.
Morpho Eco Retreat was designed by Los Angeles- based architect, James Meraz.
Limited environmental impact and the utilization of natural, locally-sourced materials were adhered to throughout the construction process. Many types of wood, native to Costa Rica, were used on the custom interior furnishings.
The result is a unique, modern two bedroom / two bathroom villa, accompanied by a separate one bedroom / one bathroom guesthouse set below, in the lush jungle.
*** You will need to rent a 4x4 vehicle with low gears to access the property due it's location, situated up one of the many mountain roads found in the area. We strongly reccommend arriving during daylight hours so that our management team can escort you to the property to familiarize yourselves with the roads. We hope you enjoy the southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica***
The main house accommodates six while the guesthouse sleeps four… making this a perfect option for larger groups as well.
When viewed from above, the inward-facing roof design of the main villa evokes a butterfly-in-flight. The name, Morpho Eco Retreat, was derived from the Blue Morpho, one of the most beautiful butterflies in Costa Rica.
The primary residence includes a master bedroom, with a king bed set against a dramatic teak headboard which camouflages the master closet. Along with an en-suite bathroom that includes a double shower as well as his & her sinks, the area is a perfect refuge at the end of the day.
The guest bedroom, with its design oriented bunk-wall, offers ample sleeping room for four adults or children. Each sleeping compartment offers its own window, reading light and outlet for charging. The room has its own en-suite bathroom as well, with a bathtub and shower.
All rooms, with their high ceilings, ample windows and sliding doors with deck access, and upper wall-screens… provide ventilation via the ample, afternoon breezes, keeping the rooms airy throughout the day.
Functioning as an anchor for the two en-suites, is a lovely, open-concept great room. With its custom designed, modern kitchen that includes an eat-at-island, cooking and entertaining has never been easier! The kitchen area looks directly onto the living area, promoting conversation and participation from guests. All of the furnishings were custom built on site. The kitchen is well stocked with everything guests will need for the next gathering.
If you enjoy cooking outdoors, there is a gas barbecue located downstairs, next to the infinity pool, you will find a covered patio area with prepping counter as well as an outdoor bar fridge for cool drinks. There is also a newly built, covered Rancho for dining- the perfect outdoor living room surrounded by nature!

Amazing views, incredible wildlife. Totally relaxing stay with our family!
We throughly enjoyed our time at Morpho Eco lodge. The communication was great prior to our arrival and the property management team very attentive to our needs once we arrived. The house was clean and spacious and met all of our needs. Our kids loved the bunk beds and cooling off in the pool after a day of exploring.
We enjoyed waking up to the beautiful sounds of the birds and howler monkeys every morning and looking out over the amazing jungle and whales tail. A glorious trip full of incredible memories!!
Difficult to praise enough
This was our second stay at Morpho and we hope to be back as soon as we can. The house is amazing, nestled in the jungle on the side of a mountain with it's gorgeous view of the ocean and beautiful pool. Booking with Dawn and working with Bill and Ann Marie at Jaguar Properties was a pleasure. Uvita itself is full of great little restaurants and friendly people and the local beaches are beautiful and uncrowded.
A wonderful escape
We were lucky to find this house. We are a family with children. It is a true getaway in the jungle with everything you need to relax and spectacular views to boot. If you want to relax in the jungle and enjoy the serenity or if you want to venture out to the beaches and waterfalls of the southern zone this is the perfect place. The "private" waterfall and swimming hole are a special treat. Loved it and we will probably visit again. The owner, the property managers and the caretaker were all very friendly and helpful. The property is a bit up in the mountain from downtown Uvita so make sure you are ready for the slope of the driveway. The first time up it is a challenge, but once you understand the need to maintain momentum at the critical points it gets much easier.
Thank you for the lovely comments, Andrew. I'm so happy your family enjoyed their time at the house. I enjoyed our back & forth, discussing some of the interesting points of the property. We put a lot of time, thought and love into its' development and love sharing it with others who come to appreciate its' unique character. Thank again and we hope to have you back someday!!

Great view and wonderful house
Ok first off you will absolutely need a powerful 4WD to reach this house. The drive up is steep in particular the last portion of it. You will have trouble getting up, as I learned first hand, with a car like a RAV4. It almost led to divorce proceedings so do yourself a favor and get a 4WD with a low gear such as a Mitsubishi Outlander (I switched my rental 2nd day).
The house has beautiful views of the surrounding area. You can see the Whales Tail easily from the balcony. Every day we saw toucans in the trees near the house, beautiful butterflies and heard the howls from the howler monkeys. My daughter even witnessed a Jesus Christ Lizard (basilisk lizard) run across the pool at the house. The beds are comfortable and it's easy to get a good cross breeze in the house by opening the sliding doors. There is absolutely no need for heat or air conditioning. It cools down considerably at night being so high up the mountain.
From our house we easily visited the surrounding area. We took a sunset horse ride at Rancho La Merced, spent most of a day visiting Nauyaca Waterfall, took a day trip to Corcovado National Park from Sierpe and did a night walk with Doc Frog along a creek in San Josecito. We also went down to the Whale Tail in Marino Ballena National park twice. Lots of fun!
It gets dark by 5:30 being so close to the equator and most evenings we were all asleep early. One thing to note is there aren't any blinds on the windows throughout the house. With the sound of the jungle coming alive with sun rise at 5:30-6 AM and the sun coming in your room, unless you bring an eye mask you'll be up early every morning. Not a bad thing as you get an early start to the day, but something to keep in mind if you like to sleep in. Come prepared with an eye mask if you like to sleep!
Overall a great experience and wonderful place to stay.
Wow! Thank you so much for your detailed review, Craig! I'm happy to hear that with the car exchange on day two you managed to avoid divorce! All joking aside, I generally rent a Mitsubishi Montero Sport or similar myself for the cars' height and stronger engine in 4-wheel drive for the steep parts. If you can imagine I cut my teeth in off roading when we were building the house, without the cement tracks during rainy season, it was something! I'm working with my managers to come up with a better description of the drive and car suggestions as to better prepare future guests while not scaring them too much.. I love that you got to see all of the animals you described, especially the Basilisk Lizard, we've seen them but never on the pool. You got to do some our favorite activities, next time you'll have to try zip-lining and maybe a kayak trip. I will try to fit in your suggestion of an eye-mask for late risers, I'm an early bird myself and the early sunrise helps our family make the most of every minute when we're staying at the house. I'm so happy that you and your family enjoyed your trip to Costa Rica, it has been and continues to be a special place for our family!

Nice moments in the montains
Beautiful home with well equipped kitchen. You sure need to adapt to the jungle surrondings, but the experience is worth the trip!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our home. We are glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. The atmosphere of raw nature in the jungle is quite different but once you've had the experience, we find it challenging ourselves when we head home to the "concrete" jungle where we live, in the city. We find ourselves longing for the sounds of the howler monkeys and many birds as our wake-up call in the morning. The sights of the many vibrant colors on dislay everyday when we look out the window. We are always happy that others can share in this experience!

Location
One of the best aspects of the house is its location. There are two supermarkets in Uvita to purchase all your groceries. When you want to go out and eat, there are fantastic options in both Dominical and Ojochal, each located 20 minutes from the house. Ballena National Park, home to the famous Whale’s Tail, is just 15 minutes away. Furthermore, there are great beaches for surfing (Dominical, Dominicalito and Playa Hermosa) and relaxing (Playa Ventanas, Playa Ballena) within a short drive of the property. The town of Uvita also has its own popular waterfall that’s right along on the road to the house.
