Unique place off the beaten path
We loved our stay at Waipio. The house was very comfortable. The views and the outdoor shower were my favorite. It was secluded and felt like an adventure. The place was clean and the beds were comfortable. I highly recommend a 4-wheel drive to explore the area!
Beautiful views, friendly locals
The house was clean, well-stocked and had the most stunning views of the valley. We are glad we got a 4 wheel drive so we were able to do some exploring. Highly recommend this place!
Beautiful home and view; downstairs studio a little run-down but rest of house truly comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed! Room enough for all 10 of us, and owners very helpful to tourism tips and recommendations. Loved this! Hope to be back some day!
Fantastic home and unbeatable view!
Visited Feb 2018. This was an incredibly comfortable and beautiful vacation home. The owner and property manager were very helpful during our stay and responsive, even in the middle of the night, to our needs. The spacious rooms and simple, elegant furnishings made our family of six feel at home the moment we walked in. The pictures simply do not do the home justice. You have to see it to believe it!
The home is fully stocked with grill, full kitchen supplies, dishes, appliances, linens, everything you could need. We bought local fruits and meats and made an island feast one night, and had everything we needed and then some. Boogie boards, beach umbrellas, beach towels were also much appreciated! Beds were super comfortable as well, and the outdoor shower was so private and inviting we all took turns showering out there! The surroundings are very non-touristy and pristine, and the local eateries and Honokaa town were so friendly and welcoming.
- The road to the home is steep and unmarked after the Waipio Valley lookout -- be sure you get good directions to the home and renting a 4WD vehicle is highly recommended!
- It is a 45 minute drive to sunny beaches on the west side of the island, an hour to Hilo and 1:45 to Volcano. Overall a good "home base" if you don't mind taking day trips to each of these places.
I would recommend this house to anyone, and look forward to returning!
The view from the balcony is amazing
This house is gorgeous. Very well stocked. The view from the balcony is amazing. We even saw whales in the ocean from the balcony. I would recommend this place to anyone
Amazing views and lovely accommodations!
I stayed in this home with my husband, our two boys and our au pair. There was lots of room, a beautiful layout and the home was well equipped for the family. The view was amazing - especially from the outdoor shower and lanai! The owners and housekeeper were friendly, helpful and responsive to questions and requests. I would definitely stay here again!
You can find some additional info about the area at waipio.net. An intro video shows how easy it is to get to the house. There are two different horseback groups in the valley and both go through streams and are more relaxed and free with your use of the horses. A favorite of my girls. There are boogie boards and surfboards if you want to try the waves, an intermediate wave beach, but favorite of locals. Local guided tours of the valley can be arranged. Multiple trails so be sure and bring your hiking shoes, water shoes.
