What makes this house unique

No better view, and great central location.

Guestbook comments from the manager

From the minute we drove up to the house we were in love. As you pull into the driveway you have a spectacular view of the waipio valley and it only gets better when you get into the house. The house is fantastic, nothing has been overlooked. The lanai is the place to relax, enjoy the view and listen to the surf, although you can do this from inside as well. The furnishings were first class. The master bedroom is huge, the bed was super comfortable, and the sliders to the lanai (with great outdoor shower) was perfect. The master also has a huge walk in closet and bath with jacuzzi tub. The main part of the house was very warm ,with dining, living and kitchen(fully stocked) all in one area - plenty of room. As there were only 2 of us we didn't even go into the other wing, but the rooms were all large and nicely appointed. Everything is new and I can't say enough about how nice this house is and how much we felt at home there. There is also a great in-law suite downstairs. Ron - the property manager, was available for our few questions. Thanks Ron! The town of honokaa has a nice grocery store, gas stations, restaurants, and shops to poke around in, about 10-15min. drive. Lastly, the biggest draw for this home is the valley itself. It is truly a sacred place. I never tired of looking at the view - you can see from all over the house. You can explore by walking down, or driving if you dare. If you have a chance, stay in this house, you'll be happy you did.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

A heavenly place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I brought my family of ten and stayed in 3 homes on the big island and this home was everyone's favorite. The view is refreshing and amazing...I hope heaven will be this inspiring. The home is like new. This is better than staying in a hotel. You have the seclusion, the frogs chirping, birds singing, the cool ocean breeze, beautiful plants along with the view. This would be a great honeymoon spot. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, matching dinnerware, spices and everything you need. We all felt so at peace here. We hiked down to the beach and found hardly anyone there. It is a difficult one to 2 hour hike back up, but well worth it. If we return to the big island, it will be hard to not stay here again. The home was one of the highlights of our 14 day trip.

Great view!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in four homes during our time in the Hawaiian Islands and this home had, by far, the most amazing view. We stayed for four nights in this house, which was well equipped for cooking and laundry, and nicely and simply furnished. We felt lucky to have access to a long range, high-up view of the Waipio Valley from the house. It was gorgeous, and we spent a lot of time on the lanai, drinking coffee and playing cards. When we went down into the valley on an organized bus tour, we realized how unique our location was.

A great experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying here! The house itself is very nice, clean, and updated. The beds were comfortable, and the outdoor shower was so cool. We appreciated the dining table which fit all 8 of us, and we enjoyed making meals in the kitchen every night. The view from the house is amazing, and there was plenty of seating on the lanai for us all to relax and enjoy it. If you are physically able to handle it, you must do the walk down into the Valley - it's hard but worth it! And don't forget to put on bug spray! The only (very small) negative thing I can say is that we had trouble determining which house was the right one because the address isn't posted on the house, but I called Danelle to ask about it, and he answered right away and gave us the info we needed.

Perfect Set Up for our Waipio Adventure

  • 5 of 5

As a local family traveling with a nanny ... this Waipio ridge home suited our needs very well for not only its proximity and views of the valley but for the privacy the main house offered from the lower ohana suite for our caregiver. I have stayed at/in waipio valley many times before and certainly will consider as a go-to stay for Waipio at this home again in the future.

(Home is well equiped with most utensials and essentials...some spices.. but if one is particular of certain items pertaining to cooking... olive oil, Coffee, etc. in addition to food/drinks ...make sure to stock up at market before going in since town is 8miles away. Just FYI.)

Unique, remarkable, remote, beautiful

  • 5 of 5

So, we, a bunch of East Coast people, came to Hawaii for a wedding and this house, expecting Hawaii was all palm trees and sun. It's not, and it's much more than that. This is a beautiful home with one of the most awe-inspiring, spiritual views on earth. Our party of 8 stayed here for 4 nights on the occasion of a family wedding held nearby. The house is very well designed and well equipped. Four bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the main level, and a lower level studio with bed, sofa, mini kitchen and bathroom. If you want resort-style action, this is not for you. The setting is remote and private; the nearest town is a 10 minute drive away. For beaches and action, you'll need to drive somewhere else. But this unique, remote home is exceptional. Due to the Dengue Fever restrictions, we were not allowed to explore the valley. Our host graciously offered us a discount because of that. We'll explore the valley next time. The house is immaculately clean ; the beds and bedding are extremely comfortable. The weather ranged from foggy, to cloudy, to pouring rain, to sunshine. We saw fog and sun and rainbows and whales. We left happy and grateful for the opportunity to stay in this remarkable home. Mahalo!

You can find some additional info about the area at dannat.net/waipio. An intro video shows how easy it is to get to the house.

There are two different horseback groups in the valley and both go through streams and are more relaxed and free with your use of the horses. A favorite of my girls.

There are boggy boards and a surfboard if you want to try the waves, an intermediate wave beach but favorite of locals.

Local guided tours of the valley can be arranged. Multiple trails so be sure and bring your hiking shoes, water shoes.

Notes:
Located on the northern Hamakua Coast, the sacred Waipio Valley was the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I, and an important center for political and religious life in Hawaii. Not only is 'The Valley of the Kings' an important site for Hawaiian history and culture, it's also a place of dramatic tropical beauty. This fertile valley is about one mile across and over five-miles deep, and surrounded by cliffs up to 2000-feet high. Waipio Valley was once the home of thousands of Native Hawaiians. Today, there are less than 100 residents living amongst the waterfalls, taro fields and rivers permeating the valley. Hawaii Island's tallest waterfall, Hiilawe Falls cascades down 1,300 feet in the back of Waipio. You can view the valley from the coastal Waipio Valley Overlook at the end of the Hamakua Heritage Corridor drive, or you can take a guided van tour, hike, or horseback ride to explore the hidden wonders within.
