Tuscan Farmhouse/Villa. Idyllic Scenic Tranquility In Hills Near Lucca And Sea

Bedrooms 2
Space 968 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

La Capanna Sleeps Up To 4 Persons - 2 Bedrooms With 2 Bathrooms En Suite

Recently restored, the house has all modern conveniences whilst maintaining its original Tuscan style and charm. There are 2 bedrooms with bathrooms en suite on the lower floor with access directly into the garden. Upstairs there is a very light spacious sitting/dining room with a characteristic Tuscan fireplace. The kitchen is well equipped with a lovely picture window looking out to the surrounding hills. Leading out of the kitchen is a terrace for al fresco eating.

Podere Consani lies in an idyllic setting amongst well-tended natural gardens,(lavender, roses, lemons and herbs) that lead into the adjacent olive groves, vineyard & woodland, in the hills between Lucca and the coast. The house shares a swimming pool with the one other cottage and the English-speaking owners who live in the main house. The owners take great care to ensure guests are happy during their stay whilst respecting their privacy. They produce their own wine and olive oil.

Nature-lovers,painters and walkers alike cannot fail to enjoy the wonderful surroundings and lovely views and although Podere Consani is set in this oasis of peace, it is however only 15 minutes before the majestic walls of Lucca come into sight.

Within a few minutes walk is the Podere Consani stud where it is possible for children to ride the lovely pony 'Chocolate' or feed the little goats.

There is the possibility to have cooking lessons or a meal cooked for you in the house.

About Susan Beeby

I, Susan, came out to Italy in 1969 and instantly fell in love with it all - the hills, the historic cities, the food and the people. Having lived here ever since, my views haven't changed.

I married my husband Lelio and a few years later we bought Podere Consani and gradually restored it, making it the beautiful place it is today.

Susan Beeby purchased this cottage in 1978

Why Susan Beeby chose Pescaglia

We were really lucky to find this beautiful property - 3 very old stone buildings on the top of a hill surrounded by flat land and with wonderful uninterrupted panoramic views - 360°. It is well known in the area due to the fact that it is quite unusual to find a property in the hills with so much flat land around it.

What makes this cottage unique

The views and the surrounding land are what convinced us to choose Podere Consani. My husband specializes in restoring old properties and this was such a wonderful place to restore - a sympathetic restoration maintaining its historical integrity.

Winter in Tuscan Cottage comfort.

  • 5 of 5

Starting with Susan our hostess who's help with everything from booking assistance, detailed directions, hint and suggestions on dinning and must see attractions most suitable for tourists such as us was a huge bonus, thank you Susan.

What a wonderful Cottage, with ample of everything including size for the 4 of us over our 7 night stay.

We were so very comfortable and given it was winter couldn't have been happier.

Having cars made Podere Consani the perfect location to do day trips from and a joy to return to after negotiating some of the cities and hill top towns.

Not only was the cottage/villa gorgeous, but the entire property and all its holdings, it is a beautiful part of Italy.

Fabulous holidays

  • 5 of 5

If You like to stay in a house furnished with steel and leather, cool and stylish You are wrong in this wonderful house. If You like a heartwarming, comfortable surrounding, rather wood than plastic, everything of good taste, without awfull tawdry bric-a-brac You are completely right. Susan made us feel at home, ansered all questions and gave a lot of helpfull tips. Knowing that we would arrive with an old car they even prepared the road and made us park in front of their house to make things easier( what wasn't really nessesary). We loved the views, the smell, the friendly and unobtrusive dogs, the calmness - we just had perfect days in Podere cosani: many thanks to Susan and the whole family

Tuscan Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Two week holiday of adjectives, location : scenic , accommodation : roomy and comfortable,

swimming pool : refreshing!, Host and Hostess : friendly and helpful.

A great holiday location, with easy access to Lucca, Pisa and Florence. A local supermarket provided all needed for leisurely poolside barbecues and "al fresco" breakfasts.

A Haven of Peace and Beauty Under the Tuscan Sun

  • 5 of 5

Podere Consani was everything we'd hoped for and more. La Capanna was the perfect size and layout for our family of 4 (children aged 5 and 8); we particularly appreciated the close proximity to the lovely pool, shared with neighbouring Il Cherubino. We enjoyed interacting with the family staying there, but the two rental properties do have plenty of personal space in addition to the shared pool area. As head chef, I particularly loved the panoramic kitchen window looking onto the gardens rich with lemons, kiwis, figs, capers, fresh herbs and more, which made any time spent preparing meals all the more pleasurable. Our property was well equipped, and the bedrooms refreshingly cool for sleeping. Susan, her family and their various guests were all very welcoming, and didn't seem to mind our children running wild - and occasionally naked! - in the gardens. Susan's daughter Lisa has excellent stables on the premises and this was a huge plus for both our children who thoroughly enjoyed their beginners' riding lessons. My husband and I were very relaxed sitting with an aperitif under vines at the bottom of the olive grove, watching our children trotting around the arena against the backdrop of the Tuscan hills and Lucca. The supermarket in San Martino In Freddana (10 minutes' drive) had everything we needed, and the wonderful walled city of Lucca offers excellent shopping, a wide choice of restaurants, sightseeing and bike-riding, including extremely entertaining family rides in quadricycles, guaranteed to have you all in stitches! However, I imagine that, like us, most guests find it hard to leave the comfort and beauty of Podere Consani. We very much hope to return in the future. Grazie mille Susan, Lelio e Lisa!

Looking Forward To Our Return

  • 5 of 5

In seven days time, our family are travelling from Kent to Podere Consani for a much anticipated two week holiday.

Occasionally, we wonder if we should be more adventurous and try a different part of Italy. However, then we think about what a holiday at Podere Consani offers us.

Sue and her family are always very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. The setting is tranquil and calm, lending itself to total relaxation. The location is absolutely perfect, only 20 minutes from the walls of the delightful Lucca, and half an hour from the beaches on the coast.

In conclusion, we know why we are about to return for the seventh time!

Nice Property and Surroundings

  • 4 of 5

The owners of the property are delightful and were very welcoming on arrival. Joining instructions were clear and despite the property being tucked away, we found it with no problems.

The villa we were in was neat, tidy and downstairs, slightly cooler (which was a bonus). No airconditioning, so that drop of 5-10 degrees made sleeping easier. We are both fussy about beds and I'm pleased to say that they were both large and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you need, although it could probably do with a wee lick of paint.

The pool sparkled and was cleaned by the owners regularly during the week of our stay.

There was a BBQ outside which was used regularly by us.

The nearby town has a small supermarket, in which you can get pretty much all you need (although not entirely service with a smile). Restaurant-wise we largely made our way to Lucca.

It's only about a 20 minute drive and rewards you with a good choice of food and ambience.

Only 2 cautionary items really (and please note the 4* rating, it was overall a great place to be), the last piece of track up to the houses is un-tarmacked and is pretty rough and steep at the end. We had a hire car which took away some of the pain of listening to stones pepper the underside of the car. If you are driving something on 20 inch wheels and low profile tyres, think carefully. The only other minor niggle being a baby sitted grandchild who enjoyed sharing his lust for life in a vocal way around sun down.

So overall a lovely holiday. I think given the recent exchange rate movements there may be scope for the owners to bring the price down a tad, but this property is well worth giving serious consideration when you are picking your next holiday.

Podere Consani is situated on a plateau in the lovely hills between the magnificent old town of Lucca and the coast. It has wonderful views overlooking the surrounding countryside - to the south-east towards Lucca and the more distant plain to Florence -to the north the stunning marble mountains and the Garfagnana with its picturesque hill-top towns & to the west the sea.The nearest beaches are at Viareggio (30min) and further up the coast are the beautiful sea-side towns of Lerici and Portovenere and the fishing villages of the Cinque Terra. In fact it lies in a very strategic position - only 20min from beautiful historic Lucca, surrounded by the magnificent walls on which one can walk or bike, 45min from Pisa airport and other historical cities such as Florence, Siena and S.Gimigniano are within easy reach. S.Martino (4km) has restaurants, a supermarket, banks, chemist etc..There is lots to see and do - that is if you can bear to tear yourself away from the beauty of Podere Consani.
