Ninole Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

A BEAUTIFUL 2 ACRE BOTANICAL GARDENS WITH MEANDERING STREAM

Instead of a hotel with lots of people and small rooms why not stay here at this luxury resort where you are the only guests! This plantation estate was an 8 year construction

project, completed in late 2012! Built along the wonderful Hamakua Sugar Plantation Coast, the spectacular rain forest side of the Island with lush green parks , gardens and forests, wonderful rushing streams and waterfalls every where.. This area is considered the Riviera of the Big Island, with the best weather, seldom any volcanic haze what so ever as is typical of the west side, is totally safe, serene and peaceful. We are located in an area of many high end luxury properties ranging from $7,000 to $25,000 per week making HIBISCUS HALE the most reasonably priced rental in the area. This is the most desirable and beautiful area on the Big Island. Although it is a cliff side resort, there are beaches just 10 minutes away with body boarding and surfing (HONOLII Beach, and 20 minutes to white sand and spectacular coastal lagoons for kayaking and snorkeling at beautiful REED'S BAY BEACH PARK. The coastal region of Hilo has miles of beautiful grassy beach parks with huge shady trees, showers, clean restrooms and picnic tables. The ocean water here is crystal clear with lots of fresh water aquafers feeding into the coast with lots of shallow protected coves that are perfect for children or beginner level swimmers. You can kayak, kayak surf, SUP, regular surfing, snorkel or just relax and have a great picnic Many cute little beach eateries for ice cream and snacks are steps away. Forget Pahoa area with its long lines of vehicular traffic, the dangerous rocky shoreline with rip tide currents, and the contaminated hot ponds, Hamakua coast is the place to be! Here you will experience an almost zen-like calm, and literally feel your blood pressure drop as you take in the natural beauty. Beautifully decorated and furnished with true Aloha, its an ideal place to come unwind and chillax as the locals like to say. This custom home was built with a Green Lifestyle concept using reclaimed barn wood beams, lots of custom wood moldings and so much attention to detail. An entertainers dream featuring a gourmet kitchen with over 60 sq of granite counter tops, gorgeous cherry cabinets, two large pantries, a center island that seats three over looking both the ocean view to the back and the open concept great room. Stainless steel appliances, a gas range with grill, separate coffee station that seats three, and many well thought out kitchen accessories for those that love to cook. The living room is furnished with Balinese bamboo and teak with a 57" flat screen TV. The spectacular formal dining room is like sitting in a tree house, with huge picture windows looking at the ocean and Hualolo stream with its little waterfall. The beautiful Rosewood dining table was shipped from Thailand and seats 8 easily. The entire house has dual pane picture windows with views to the spectacular gardens and the ocean. Running the entire length of the house is a huge lanai 32' x 16' with its own kitchen, dishwasher, and lots of seating. There are three bedrooms, a master with brand new custom on suite, queen bed and 32" flat screen, another bedroom with a queen bed and a room with two custom built twins. These rooms are beautifully decorated with wonderful tropical accessories and all feature large closets with custom built-ins so no tripping over luggage. There are ceiling fans in each room and large windows to let in the wonderful trade wind breezes. A den/office allows you to work while on vacation at a built in desk and mini library for those that like to read and relax. We offer free WI_FI and upgraded Dish Network. The house is surrounded by nearly 2 acres of lush tropical gardens, walking trails, a lagoon style dipping pool, lots of gazebos, one with a bbq, picnic table, prep area and lounge for sleeping or reading. There are many nooks and other seating areas all around the property. A private gazebo with a jacuzzi spa for star gazing and relaxing after your days of sight seeing (OCT THRU APR).

Located just 20 minutes from Hilo airport, (ITO) with major shopping and many wonderful restaurants, art galleries, the Imiloa Astronomy center, tsunami museum, famous Hilo farmers market, tide pool beaches, inlet coves and Reeds Bay "WHITE SAND BEACH PARK". Nearly across the street from the house are the best zip lines in Hawaii, 2 world class botanical gardens, spectacular Akaka Falls, and several lush jungle-like beach parks for picnics and fantastic photo ops. This coastline is voted among the top 5 drives in the US, for its breath taking vistas. About Gloria and Greg Sawrey

We Greg and Gloria Sawrey are originally from Dana Point/San Juan Capistrano are of California, and have been on the island for since 2001. We started bringing our children here for family vacations more than 25 years ago, always planning to move here on each and every trip. Greg had a painting, construction, remodeling and landscaping business on the mainland and after 25 years made a career change, working as an RF Technician for Cingular wireless. Gloria worked as an interior designer, owner and manager of Wallpaper World a 6000 sq' decorating center for 15 years while doing landscape design on the side. After a work injury she went back to school which lead to an 8 year second career as a an American Express Travel agent, specializing in Hawaii of course. Once we arrived here in 2001 we accidently stumbled into a new remodeling business after several realtors saw our own remodeled home in Waimea. and then recommended us to many new friends and clients. In 2013 we decided to retire (didn't really take) and make our home a vacation rental. So many friends and family members had suggested we do this over the last 8 years it felt like we were meant to. It has truly been a wonderful sharing our love of the island with all of our vacationing guests. Having people enjoy all the years of hard work we have done here is the most rewarding experience we have ever had, and making new friends is a great bonus too.

Gloria and Greg Sawrey purchased this chateau / country house in 2004

Why Gloria and Greg Sawrey chose Hilo District

We spent ten years tearing down, rebuilding, remodeling, adding to and landscaping this former sheep pasture and shack into the place it was always meant to be. It was literally a tear-down when we purchased it, and we had several moments (I really mean months) of buyers remorse and shock while enduring years of turmoil and constant upheaval. To say its been a challenge is a drastic understatement. Upon completion which we thought might not ever happen, we were exhausted. We both sustained some severe injuries putting an end to our remodeling career in 2011. Then one day a light bulb came on, I slapped myself and blurted to my husband " We should make it a vacation rental like everyone has been telling us for years! We don't know why we didn't do it sooner, but that is the reward for all the hard work. That is the best part of the entire adventure, the light at the end of the tunnel!

Our slogan is from'' HUMBLE HOVEL TO HEAVENLY HAVEN"

and we hope you will feel the same.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The natural beauty of this coast line is what makes living here so special. It sparkles like a jewel, with the azure blue ocean, the nearly hundreds of shades of verdant green, topped with an incredible opalescent sky, a rainbow almost every day, and seeing the whales playing from the lanai, you just can't beat it. And no traffic!

Great Week on the Big Island!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week with Greg and Gloria. Beautiful property and house perfect or the 6 of us. Great location on the Big Island, away from the crowds, close to Hilo and the Volcano. Greg was a great source of information on the Island and the pool was a great retreat as well. High;ly recommended!!

Excellent vacation home - Relax and have no worries!!

  • 5 of 5

Gloria and Greg are some of the nicest people you will meet. They were awesome hosts and helped us with ideas on what sites to see. They even helped us with our trip to Oahu. Their house/property was beautiful and well maintained. It was very clean and we felt right at home. We had plenty of room for our large family of 7. It was great that they provided beach/snorkel gear. They have everything you need. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

We enjoyed being on the Hilo side of the island and also traveled to many parts of the rest of the island, exploring everything there was to see. One of our favorite spots was the Volcano National Park. The beach we liked was Hapuna Beach State Park on the Kohala Coast.

Beautifully landscaped home with wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

Greg and Gloria's home in Hilo is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. It is a very good value. The home is sort of like a duplex, where the vacationers stay in the large side and Greg and Gloria live in a smaller part which you can't really see. It's a really great design. You don't even know they are there, except that they have the uncanny ability to always be available to give tourist advice or just be friendly hosts. They met us on the evening we arrived and had food and goodies for us weary travelers. Gloria also did a great job of communicating with me prior to arrival about all sorts of useful things I may not have even thought of. She is a former vacation specialist and she put together a book with suggested itineraries for each day you are there. Both are a wealth of knowledge about where to go and what to see.The house is equipped with Hawaii travel books and magazines, as well as a wall of pamphlets, so you will be a well-informed tourist. The house and grounds are absolutely gorgeous, yet very homey. I have never seen such beautiful gardens in my life. It looks like a professional botanical garden. You can get fresh mangos right from the property. The house was very clean and had all the home amenities you could ever want including kitchenware, beach towels, tons of reading books and beach gear. The lanai is HUGE, like an outdoor family room and has a small kitchenette and dining table. There is a large wading pool, about 3 ft. deep, which also is beautifully landscaped. If you are looking for a non-resort like experience where you can relax, this place is great. As for staying on this side of the island, there are pros and cons. It is very beautiful and tropical and thus tends to rain a lot as opposed to the west side which has better beaches, but is almost desert-like. There is plenty to do locally, like the Hilo market with crafts, jewelry and produce, as well as explore lots of waterfalls and a Botanic Garden. We ventured to Volcano National Park, Black and Green Sand Beaches and over to Kona. Greg will tell you the best beaches for body surfing and snorkeling. I would definitely recommend that if the Hilo area is the place you want to stay, then THIS IS the place to rent!

Enjoying Life

  • 5 of 5

We vacationed at Hibiscus Hale/Kololia’s Garden in February 2014. Our son’s college baseball team was in Hilo for a series of games against University of Hawaii, Hilo.

Kololia’s Garden offers peace, tranquility and relaxation, so if you’re looking for a place to relax and unwind, this is the place.

Kololia’s Garden is just north of Hilo. It’s a short, beautiful drive into town. Akaka Falls is just down the road from Kololia’s Garden.

Below is our review from 2014;

“Hospitality….that’s the best description for the time spent at Kololia’s Garden. For the past twenty years my family has spent at least one (1) week a year in the Hawaiian Islands. This year (Feb 19th – Feb 26th 2014) we looked for a more Hawaiian experience, away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki or Kona. We decided to spend a week in the Hibiscus Hale at Kololia’s Garden and found the experience to be quite pleasurable. The hospitality was superb and the gardens are among the best in Hawaii. The vacation was complete…time to relax around the pool and garden, with ocean, hiking and waterfall excursions just minutes away. Definitely the best bang for your money!!!”

TRULY INCREDIBLE!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this property from Feb 6th - 17th - I do not have enough good things to say about how kind and accommodating both Gloria and Greg were!!!! the house is incredible - had everything we could ask for and more - it was so clean I could not believe it!!! The photos of the yard for sure do not do it justice - it is like having your own personal jungle in your backyard - Both Greg and Gloria are incredible landscapers - we spent a few days just enjoying the sun by the pool with the most incredible vegetation right there!! It was comfortable, they could not do enough to make our vacation absolutely perfect!!!!! Tons of privacy - I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a great, beautiful, quiet, private vacation!!!!! Loved it!!!!

Amazing

Amazing plantation style home with beautiful gardens and pool. Very peaceful and relaxing for our getaway. Gloria and Greg are amazing host that were able to answer all of our questions and give us advice on where to visit. The photos don't do it justice and would highly recommend Hibiscus Hale to all that are looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation on the Big Island.
