too many things broken, and not very clean

  • 2 of 5

First, a few positive things. The location is in a safe area, and fairly convenient to access San Francisco and the Bay Area, but there are just too many problems with the house. In no particular order:

- the stove handles all are broken, and continuously fall off. Such an obvious and easy thing to fix. This demonstrates that the owner just doesn't care about the small, but important things.

- the coffee maker was not cleaned and it was frankly quite dirty, full of coffee grinds, and it took me about 30 minutes to clean it, so at least that will be clean when you arrive.

- there are countless stains on the chairs, floor, and on the ceiling, and in one particular room, quite a bit of chipped paint

- there are not enough blankets in the master bedroom, with just one small sheet and the bed cover.

- the ice maker in the freezer was not working, and the filter on the refrigerator for the water had not been changed.

On a positive note, there were quite a few plants in the house, and it was decorated OK. It was also well-stocked with plates, bowls, glasses, and utensils.

Overall, I would not recommend staying here at the designated price. The owner should take this opportunity to clean and make a lot of repairs and upgrade the unit materially.

This charming and well-appointed House was perfect for our family of six adults in the area for a family event. Excellent location, easy access to highways and surrounding neighborhoods. We would definitely recommend this terrific house and stay here again!

Owner's Response: Linda and her family were lovely guests to host. They were friendly, considerate, neat, tidy and very respectful of my house. I would have no hesitation to recommend them to any hosts as the perfect guests

Clean, Convenient, and Charming!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this Oakland residence was quiet, and charming. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the house, and shown in details all the amenities that this property possessed. We absolutely loved the location, neighborhood, and convenience to the church that our daughter married at. Hopefully sometime soon, we will return, as my daughter lives close to the location, and we can stay at this beautiful, clean, and green thumb property! Unusual plants/flowers adorned the inside & outside of the property, if only the weather had cooperated, and didn't rain just about the entire time of our stay! Mostly, we shopped in the nearby area's, cooked our morning meals, as we busied ourselves planning the wedding! Bravo Manuel! A wonderful home away from home! Thank you!

Lovely home

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 adults was very comfortable. The home is lovely; nice furniture, beautiful art, amazing plants and yard. It has a great kitchen (completely redone). High end washer and dryer in garage shared with homeowner. The homeowner was available to us at 1:00 a.m. when we got into the airport, and very gracious. The internet worked very well, which is extremely important. Overall, we enjoyed staying there.

However, the temperature reached 100 degrees outside in late September, and the first floor of the home stayed very warm in the upper 80's. It did not cool down in the evenings. There is no central air. There are window AC units in the 3 upstairs bedroom, which we needed.

Some small things: two bedrooms upstairs, and the upstairs hall had single light bulbs in the ceiling, with no fixtures. Given the attention to detail everywhere else in this home, these stood out. Also, it would be great to provide hand towels in the bathrooms. The shower head in the second bathroom is rusty and the spray is inadequate. The shower caddy is also old/rusty, and the shower curtain is again as well.

Advice to other renters: The nearby Safeway is one of the worst grocery stores we have ever patronized. The employees are nasty (two visits confirmed this behavior from multiple individuals), with unmanaged checkout lines and people jostling each other for position in a very small area. In addition, it feels unsafe in the parking lot, where a person who hung out around the exit door was turned down after asking for money and then followed us to the car to try again.

Cozy, peaceful stay with all conveniences

  • 5 of 5

Lovely home with lots of room to relax, with large living room, formal dining and breakfast nook. Our family of five had plenty of space. Kitchen is beautiful, all the conveniences and appliances. Quiet neighborhood, easy to get to BART and town. We would definitely stay there again when we visit Oakland!

Great place to get together with friends.

  • 4 of 5

The house was in a very quite neighborhood. We loved it. Very clean and well stocked with pots and pans, etc.needed for cooking. The backyard was peaceful. The only down side was the fact that the backyard was locked and access was not from the house but from a side gate that was locked. Also, we couldn't get the gas grill to work.
