Our family had an excellent stay at this rental property. Everything was very clean and the house was well stocked with everything we needed. The drive to Hilo is a bit long, but we knew that when we booked as we wanted to get out of the city. When we got here, the barbeque wasnt here. I emailed the owner and by the time we got back from a 15 minute walk he had emailed me back and the barbeque was outside. He was fantastic to deal with. Thanks for letting us use your ptopertyfor our stay. I will be recommending it for anyone coming to this area.
What a very, VERY nice home to enjoy during our vacation on the windward side of Big Island. Totally clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. Quite private, very secure, upscale neighborhood..and near the water!
We were impressed with how quiet it was, especially since there are coqui frog in this area. Not bad at all, especially if the bdrm windows are closed at night. Pretty low key, especially compared with other island locations. Also nice was that there aren't the noisy, crow all-night jungle fowl around. Plus, NO BARKING DOGS to disturb our evenings or sleep. A few in the distance, later in the mornings, but not the drive-you-crazy, non-stop, uncontrolled critters that can be common in neighborhoods. This is a great area. REALLY enjoyed evening strolls down to the cliffs overlooking the sea a short walk away..
We used this lovely space as our base for 3 days while we explored Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to the south and Hilo hot-spots to the north.
*Appreciated that the kitchen contained just about everything you might need to cook with, however we did reduce our rating by one star due to the fact that the oven was not working and we were not warned in advance. This was completely disappointing and we would have appreciated the courtesy of being told before we came with all our groceries so we could have planned accordingly.
There was a note on the counter alerting us that they knew the oven was not working; so it definitely is something we could have been informed about before our trip. So be forewarned to check with the owners before booking and/or don't bring things that need to be cooked in the oven (pizza, frozen entrees, roasts, cakes mixes, etc). We would suggest to the owners that perhaps a reduction in fees until the oven is repaired might be offered.
There were some carpet stains here and there and seemed to indicate a good shampooing may be in order for the carpeted rooms of the home.
We would also recommend a lighter for the citronella candle be provided, or else vacationers: bring your own. It's possible there was one and we just overlooked it. Should mention here that we had NO ISSUES with mosquitoes during our time in this wonderful home. No roaches AT ALL! Which is way-cool.. just some very interesting-looking beetles that liked to gather whenever there was a light on in the master bathroom/bdrm ;) Totally harmless and didn't bother us at all.
Comfortable and very at home feeling,it has everything some one or any family would need ,the owner was great with our requests ,will return in the near future
We had a great 5-night stay in January 2017 at this comfortable house. It's in a bit out-of-the way location from the main attractions we were after (volcano/lava flow, botanic gardens, etc.), but we really liked having a peaceful home base with a full kitchen and comfy bed to return home to each night. There is a park down the street where we saw a pod of dolphins swim by, and enjoyed seeing the sunrise and waves in the mornings there too. The frogs are loud at night (much louder on this side of the island than on the drier Kona side), but we embraced the sounds of nature each night as we fell asleep - with the windows open the whole time, pretty much. It was a great stay, and a great value. The only concern we had once we arrived was answered & addressed promptly, and everything else was as we expected from the listing.
The home was clean and comfortable in a quiet neighborhood. Loved hearing the birds during the day and frogs at night. The sound of ocean waves lulled me sleep--it was a real getaway!
Just two blocks away, there is a park. Take the lawn chairs which are provided and enjoy breakfast at the ocean and watch for whales.
Drive south along the coast for a beautiful drive through the rainforest and go to Ahalanui park for swimming in a warm tide pool.
Mike was quick and clear in his communication.
Would return here again!
