About Diane Delafield
We moved to the mountains of Madison County in Mars Hill 30 years ago and was drawn to this land and river in 1993. The cottage is on the land where we live, we call it One Heart. Inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds it, we added many unique features to this cottage such as window seat in the living room, pine paneled den with wall of windows on the river and cathedral ceilings in the bedrooms. Our intention was to create a space of comfort, beauty and solace. It's our hope that those who come here will experience the same rejuvenating effect that renews our heart and Spirit daily.
Why Diane Delafield chose Mars Hill
I have always wanted to live on a river and this part of the river is exceptionally beautiful with a rock gorge across the river. It is quiet, private and peaceful...yet only 20 minutes from all Asheville has to offer and 10 minutes from some wonderful restaurants in Mars Hill and 15 minutes from the charming town of Weaverville. We have hosted many family vacations here as well as women's retreats.
What makes this Cottage unique
This land is quiet and peaceful and the sound of the river provides a scenic and harmonic background yet it is only 20 minutes from all Asheville has to offer. Great restaurants and shopping are only 10 minutes away in Mars Hill and 12 minutes from the charming town of Weaverville. Families with children will enjoy playing in the river, walking wooded paths and playing board games together on the window seat overlooking the river. Nearby is white water rafting, hiking and horse back riding. Biltmore Estate is 30 minutes away.

cozy quiet river cottage
Beautiful cottage on a great river. Calm quiet peaceful place with decks that overhang the river. Diane is a great host and the property is close to lots of things to do.
Diane was great! Loved the peaceful tranquility of this paradise. The river sounds were so relaxing.
Great stay and we enjoyed the Asheville Art Festival and the fall colors in the Parkway
Nice week in the woods.
Had a great few days with the family. Very nice spot on the river. House was clean and well stocked. River was low due to no rain but extremely nice location.
The Ivy River Cottage is the perfect place to enjoy nature and completely de-stress. Thank you Diane for a perfect weekend.
This was one of the most relaxing vacations I have had. The river, the deck, the home, everything was perfect. Diane was wonderful. I cannot say enough about our stay there, one of the few trips that I truly wasn't ready to leave, but felt renewed and ready (which I never am) to go back to the real world!! Thank you Diane for the wonderful memories.
We had such an awesome experience. If you want to be away from it all and yet close to everything this is the perfect house. We hiked, fished, relaxed and even ventured to explore other places in the area. Diane is a gracious and responsive hostess every detail attended including for our arrival fresh flowers and snacks. The house has everything you could ever want tastefully decorated every amenity you could want for your stay and is very well maintained and clean. We hated to leave and hopefully will have the opportunity to return some day. If you're looking in the area you need not look any further.
This retreat is located 20 minutes from Asheville in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains with beautiful hikes, white water rafting, snow skiing, fishing, birding and the Blue Ridge Parkway just 30 minutes away. Downtown Asheville area restaurants are 20 minutes, Biltmore Estate is 30 minutes away.
Also, charming towns of Mars Hill and Weaverville have wonderful shops and restaurants and only 10 and 15 minutes away.
