The Green Duck (formerly Yellow Finch House - before being painted green in '14) is simply an easy house to be in. A simple 1 bedroom house, with a sunroom (sleeper sofa pulls out to a Queen size bed for extra sleeping) ,a full kitchen and living room area with a small working bathroom (standup shower only). The house is equipped with washer and dryer! We like to keep all the screened windows open all summer and let the breeze keep the house cool, but there is an option for AC in the bedroom if you absolutely need it ($5/day option - just leave the cash on the table when you leave if you use it). There is working WIFI, DVD system, and over Dish Network TV channels, but save that for a rainy day because you'll be spending most of your time outside on the deck or down on the beach and/or swimming dock. There are 2 brand new kayaks for your use as well as some extra life jackets and inflatables. Plenty of deck chairs for sitting or laying out in the sun. A great place for bird watching and fishing right off the dock! A raised metal fire pit for those late night bonfires! This property is unique as we get both Sunrise on the lake and sunset over the hills of Fox Run Winery! One last thing - a charming and historic train runs next to the house. The train seems to have no set schedule, but seems to run very infrequently. Sometimes not coming for days on end and other times passing by up to 3 times in one day. We see this as part of the charm of the place- the train goes slow and the conductor will even sound the whistle for you if you wave at the train! All in all - this is the perfect house for a quiet, get-a-way - full of fishing, swimming, laying around, working on your new book, or a just a romantic rural experience! Ideal for 2 people, but can sleep up to 4 altogether. Oh, and if it gets too quiet - Historic Downtown Geneva is a 15 minute drive. There you can find gift shops, a cinema, The Smith Opera House, grocery stores, and a lakefront park. If none of that suits you, please feel free to use any or all of our 3 bicycles for a joy ride around our area - right in the heart of Amish Country!
*** This is a year round rental. We spent last winter here and made some great memories. I must say the place is stunning during all four seasons. We do ask the guests DO NOT use the wood stove (for safety reasons). The house is well insulated. There is electric heat (Thermostat), as well as some very advanced, high-end space heaters for the areas that don't heat up as well. If you would like to see some photos of the place in winter time, just ask and I will email them to you.

About jonathan pierce
I grew up in the finger lakes district and spent many memorable summers on Seneca Lake at my Grandfather's cabin. I moved away for work to Manhattan and after years of hard work, I was able to purchase my own cabin on the same lake as my grandfather - my own dream come true- my own paradise. Sadly, my work requires me to travel almost constantly, so I am excited to share this slice of heaven with you!
jonathan pierce purchased this House in 2012
Why jonathan pierce chose Penn Yan
I wanted to have a home on Seneca Lake, simply for nostalgic reasons. I missed those perfect quiet summers I spent up here as a kid - and when I am here - I do feel like a kid again. You have to stay here to really grasp what I'm saying! Also, living in Manhattan has really made me crave serenity. Here, you are literally surrounded by nature.
What makes this House unique
Incredible lake views, private 165 ft. beach, private road to house (shared with only two neighbors), the house is on the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. The backyard is flush with Fox Run's Riesling grape vines (pictured)! There is a working refrigerator in the boat house , so you don't have to leave the beach to enjoy a cold beer or some crisp white wine in the sun!

Lovely as always...
Basking in the sun, swimming in the lake and grilling fresh veggies at night - was our paradise. Thanks for the hospitable accommodations, Jonny!
3rd year in a row with these awesome guests! Come again! 🥂
The cottage was lovely. Nicely decorated and comfortable. It was clear that the owner wants his guests to enjoy their stay. The view was spectacular! I would highly recommend this property for your next get away!
I headed to this lakeside house for a peaceful retreat, and it gave me all that and more. Four different spots to experience the lake, each with a different view and nearness and comfy chairs. The house is comfortable and pleasantly decorated, with touches of elegance (loved those chairs at the kitchen table). The bed was very comfortable, including soft and lovely linens and comforter. The kitchen had everything I needed (though I didn't cook much). I was a bit worried about the train, and it did come by twice the first night, but I saw it only twice more in four days, both mid day. And it was never very startling. The location turned out to be great--close enough to Watkins Glen State Park for hiking, many good wineries, and Geneva for whatever else you might need. And the host was wonderful, consistently responsive and pleasant. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Thank you!
I highly encourage any renters out there to say YES YES YES to this amazing guest. Great communication and overall just so sweet. Come again please!
My wife and I stayed at the Green Duck this past weekend. We couldn't be more impressed with the property and Jonathan's responsiveness, suggestions and overall willingness to help.
This is a beautiful house and property with tons of things to do nearby. Also great place to just relax and decompress.
I would recommend this place to anyone!

A wonderful getaway to Seneca Lake
I've never been to the Finger Lakes so decided to take my husband for our 30th Wedding Anniversary! Wow, were we both impressed with the area and the lovely home we rented through HomeAway. Seneca Lake is just beautiful, especially when you are staying directly on the lake. We had kayaks to use to explore the lake, gorgeous weather and a firepit to top off each night gazing at the stars over the lake. A bicycle ride around part of the lake gave us great perspective as to the enormity of the lake - made for a great 1/2 day excursion! Overall, our trip was a huge success thanks to all of amenities provided with our Green Duck HomeAway rental! Can't wait to return and see the rest of the Seneca Lake area.
What a delight these two were! Congrats and please come again
