About Dagmar Hedrich
I am German and live in since more than 16 years Portugal with my family. I absolutely love Sintra, and when in 2005 an opportunity arose to buy and a house there, we renovated it for our own use during weekends, and for family visits. In 2009, we decided to rent it out to holiday makers.
Dagmar Hedrich purchased this Apartment in 2005
Why Dagmar Hedrich chose Sintra
Sintra is an excellent place to be in short distance to sandy beaches and breathtaking cliffs - and at the same time within easy reach from Lisbon.
What makes this Apartment unique
Our house is one of the 'chalets' which were built around the turn of the century, when the railway line from Lisbon as built. The small town, which had hitherto been reserved to the Portuguese royal family and nobility as summer residence, then became popular among wealthy Portuguese. Besides the large country estates, smaller 'Chalets' for bourgeoisie and the artists were built. Our Villa was designed and built for José Ricardo, an actor and theatre director, who lived here until 1925. When we converted the house into a modern apartment, we tried tho maintain special atmosphere which we had felt at our very first visit.

This charming and comfortable home had everything we needed and more to accommodate our needs. The location was perfect and having a place to park was especially helpful for us! They even thought of young children and our son had a blast playing in his room and putting on puppet shows for us. The responsiveness was also positive and put us at ease through out our stay. We hope to come back some day and would highly recommend this location. You can’t beat three bedrooms that all have their own bathroom and an additional bedroom plus so much more space to talk, eat, and enjoy!
fabulous sintra house
We stayed at Dagmar's property for 10 days and it was a wonderful base for us to explore Sintra. The house is super spacious and very comfortable with a huge kitchen and living area, plus a separate dining room in addition to the four large bedrooms. It is decorated well and feels modern but also very comfortable. One of the things we really appreciated were the light blocking window shades. It helped everyone sleep well. And we found the beds to be very comfortable. Our girls had a blast here. They loved the loft bed and the dollhouse was great fun for them. There were a few dolls but we happened to also be traveling with some small ones so that worked out. The kitchen has everything you need to self cater, but the property is also walking distance to restaurants and cafes. We had a car and there is a spot to park in front of the garage space. We walked into old Sintra in about 20-25 min which has loads of wonderful restaurants and shops. We used our car to visit Sintra's beautiful beaches and a couple of the castles. It's a great central spot to explore this gorgeous city from. We were so glad we stayed longer here so we could really enjoy Sintra. And Dagmar was a pleasure to book with--very responsive and helpful. The house is built over 3 levels with some very steep creaky stairs so if stairs are a problem this is not the place for you. Also the openings in the stair railing are large enough for a crawling baby/new walker to fall thru. Our 3 year old probably could have slipped through as well, but she was old enough to listen and we kept her downstairs for the most part when she was awake. There is a gate provided for the stairs which was great, but just be aware of this if you go with a small child.
Perfect lovely home in Sintra!
Casa Jose Ricardo is perfect! The apartment is beautiful with spacious, sunny rooms. The bedrooms are very comfortable and easily accommodate privacy for a family or friends traveling together. There is a wonderful children's room with a crib and a magical bunk bed play house.
The main areas include a living room, sitting room, a dining room/game area and a large well equipped kitchen. There is something for everyone to enjoy. We had a cooking workshop with a Portuguese chef recommended by Dagmar that was awesome. We all learned a lot and the food was unique and delicious. The house is immaculately clean and the bathrooms are lovely.
While it is tempting to spend your time relaxing at Casa Jose Ricardo, Sintra and the surrounding area are filled with historic sites, hiking trails and amazing restaurants all within walking distance. For a 20-30minute drive (or train ride), you will be in Lisbon or on a spectacular beach with expansive sand and waves. Our family fell in love with Sintra and Portugal. We are already planning our next visit.
Dagmar is the best hostess. She responds quickly to any questions. Driving directions, parking and entry instructions are provided clearly. The whole experience is so easy. You will feel at home immediately in Casa Jose Ricardo.
Thank you for your visit and I hope to welcome you and your family again in the future.
Wonderful house in Sintra!
This is such a wonderful house close to the historical attractions of Sintra. My son and I and another family stayed here for 2 nights and we were so comfortable. The rooms are huge, the kitchen is well stocked if you feel like staying in to cook (a well stocked grocery store is a 5 minute walk from the house), the bathrooms are luxurious. Every nook and cranny was spotlessly clean. The owners have even provided plenty of games, books and dvds so you will not be at a loss for entertainment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dagmar's house and hope to return again in the future.
Great holiday apartment in Sintra.
The accommodation in Sintra worked out perfectly for the six of us. There was plenty of room and ample facilities. It was close to the train station and walking distance to the old town. We had an enjoyable stay there.
Thank you - it was a pleasure to have your group - you are welcome any time again!
Beautiful house and welcoming owner
we very much enjoyed our stay, thank you
The cultural landscape of Sintra, which developed in the 19th century into the centre of European romantic architecture, is listed as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 1995. Besides the fairytale castle 'Palacio da Pena', which is one of the main romantic ensembles in Europe and was built by King Fernando II (Ferdinand von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha), the National Palace and the Moorish castle are worth a visit. There are several gardens and parks with the lush vegetation that is so typical for Sintra - and unique in the World. Due to its location, Sintra allows you to combine culturally stimulating holidays with peaceful village life, beach holidays, golf, surf or hiking.

Golf: Sintra is proud to have some of the best golf courses in Portugal. Set against amazing landscapes, there are several courses in easy reach: Estoril (18 & 9 hole courses), Quinta da Beloura (18 holes), Penha Longa (18 / 9); Quinta de Marinha (18 holes). Due to Sintra's mild micro-climate, golf can be played all year round.
From the website goingforgolf.com: 'The Lisbon Golf Coast has no fewer than 19 full courses laid out to the south of the city across the River Tagus (Costa Azul), to the west (Estoril Coast) and to the north-west (Silver Coast). The vast majority of layouts are within a 45-minute radius of Lisbon airport and overlook, or are close to, the wonderful coastline this area boasts.'
