Our family LOVES spending time at Layer Cake! We enjoy sharing this experience and the glowing reviews (over 75 now with nothing less than 5-Star since we've begun renting it to guests). make it that much more wonderful to share! We owe much of our positive experience to our wonderful guests, and to the efforts of the fabulous group that meticulously services our cabin (as we reside 2 hours east in Winston-Salem). We LOVE to travel and sail, and also consider home swapping an option. OWNER IS A LICENSED REAL ESTATE BROKER IN THE WINSTON-SALEM, NC AREA.

Why Becky and Dave Roletter chose Newland
Once you've been to Layer Cake cabin, you'll understand....
What makes this Cabin unique
I never get enough of being at Layer Cake. I don't know what I like best. Is it: When I open my eyes in the morning, I feel fortunate to awaken in a bed surrounded by views of the woodlands, hearing only the sounds of nature...the breeze flowing through the surrounding tall trees and the birds singing. It's a place to disconnect from everyday stresses, and reconnect with friends, lovers, family...and best of all, yourself. On a star-filled evening, sitting under the stars on the slate patio in front of the slate outdoor fireplace watching a roaring fire, sipping my favorite wine (Penfold's Bin 389) with special people (or even alone)? Waking up early just to walk 5 minutes to the overlook to see the heavenly sunrise? Reclining in the hammock chair on the wrap-around porch either napping or reading a book? Reclining on the new 9-foot down-filled sofa in a beautiful room with a great book while surrounded by windows that look out on the woodlands? Enjoying a wood fire in the indoor double-sided wood fireplace in a comfy club chair and with my ottoman, my mini-tray table attached to the arm of the chair with a hot cup of tea, and a good book, or just great conversation with the one directly across from me in the matching club chair? Then there's the decadence of watching the sun setting from the slate and glass shower.... Listening to rain on the metal roof... or sitting on the covered porch with a hot cup of tea watching it rain.... And that's at the cabin... the walking along tgravel and paved roads, the 5-minute walk to the overlook on Table Rock road, the hike to Sitting Bear, Upper Creek Falls, Table Rock, antiquing in Foscoe, kayaking Price Lake, and one of my all-time favorites - the Orchard at Altapass on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Spruce Pine for live Appalachian music, flat footing, locals, homemade cobbler, warm local folks and tourists. And every time I go back, I found something else to love. I hate to leave and wish I could retire!!!

Thoughtful appointed cabin in a secluded location. Close to trailheads for our hiking adventure and then ended our day relaxing by the fire.
The cabin was lovely. Wish we could come back, but probably won't get to.
Great Get Away House
Home was very well maintained, we enjoyed our visit. Highly recommend.
awesome cabin, close to a lot of trails we were interested in.
Cabin was great! Owners even texted let us know what we needed to bring, and to call if we had any questions. Fireplace worked! Shower was good! If we take an extended weekend to hike again, we would love to stay there again.
Family Ski Weekend
Our family has now stayed in Layer Cake for the past 3 years for our annual family ski trip. We love it! It is cozy and comfortable and is a great place to end the day after a full day of snow skiing. Thank you Layer Cake for allowing us to make great family memories!!
Attention to detail
Owner was responsive and helpful. Beautifully decorated with luxury comfort in mind. We will definitely be back!
Layer Cake is located in the Woodlands, just off Table Rock Road in Jonas Ridge. This quiet cabin is pet friendly (1 dog under 40 pounds), and surrounded by huge rhododendron and forest on a gravel road off Table Rock Road (from I-181). Near the "Grand Canyon of the East!" hiking (Grandfather Mountain, Table Rock trails, Sitting Bear and too many others to list), antiquing (Foscoe is a must), beer tasting at Blind Squirrel Brewery (Plumtree, NC), Wine tasting at Grandfather Vineyards (Foscoe), dining at Eat Crow (Foscoe), lunch at Christa's (daily-made yeast rolls in Pinola), (daily-made enormous cinnamon buns and sourdough loaves (check hours - Linville Mercantile and Bakery (Newland), biking (route I-181), driving the Blue Ridge Parkway to places such as Linn Cove Viaduct, Price Lake (wonderful walking trail, canoe/kayak/fishing lake with rentals available), and Moses Cone Arts Center with history, high-end crafts, and hiking trails), and one of my personal favorites May-October -- the Orchard at Altapass (near Spruce Pine) for friendly locals and tourists, live music, dancing, ice cream and apple pie. The cabin is also approximately 30 minutes from Boone and Blowing Rock (outlet shopping), and perfect for App State visits.
During summer months, Gingercake pool and tennis court (with picnic tables and grill) is hidden in the woods, just a 10-minute walk down the gravel road from the cabin (3-minute drive).
