Lake Placid Club Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4BR, 4 Bath close-to-town location in the Lake Placid Club area

As Lake Placid Club grew from its inception in 1895, it experienced many expansive changes. At it's height, the private club included 6,000 acres in an extensive development of accommodations, recreation facilities, service buildings, farmland and forest. In the early part of the 1900s certain members of the club were no longer satisfied with the hotel-like accommodations in the large club house. Over time some 40 cottages were built near, but separate from, the main building. Today, fewer than a dozen of these historic buildings remain. Our house, Juniper Cottage, built in 1923, is one of them. The total renovation of the property, completed in July 2005, has been as respectful as possible to the original Juniper and is designed to maximize its secluded forest setting and the variety of mature trees which surround the house.

Juniper has 4 bedrooms each with their own screened in porch and bathroom. The master bedroom has a gas fireplace (gas), queen bed, sitting area with two chairs, and a closet. A second bedroom on the main floor has a queen bed and closet. The third main floor bedroom has two twin beds and a bathroom with whirlpool tub. The fourth bedroom is located down a spiral staircase from the main floor to a walkout lower level. This bedroom has two twin beds and a private bathroom. The laundry room is also downstairs with both a washing machine and dryer.

The living room has a 14 foot cathedral ceiling, great views of the forest and a large stone fireplace. The room is perfect for sitting around the fireplace reading, chatting, watching TV, or listening to music on the Sonos system. Juniper is equipped with an iMac and high speed internet. Want to unplug? Then feel free to read one of the many books at Juniper, play one of the board games or do an old-fashioned jigsaw buzzle.

The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, gas range and oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, microwave and a large selection of dishware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, etc. If you prefer to grill, there is a gas grill right outside the front door.

If you come in the winter to ski, we have plenty of room for your equipment. There are racks to hold eight sets of skis. Also, inside the front door is a small, heated mud room with benches and coat racks so you can easily remove your winter clothes and boots without bringing them into the cottage.

There is a small shed near the parking area of Juniper to put garbage and recyclables. And in the back yard there is a hammock for enjoying the good weather and a lean-to in case you want to spend a night outdoors.

Juniper is close (10 minute walk) to town but situated in a private-wooded setting. This allows for privacy when grilling and/or dining outside. Or just when sitting with your family and friends around the outdoor fire pit roasting marshmallows.

From Juniper Cottage you can easily access many activities. It is a short walk or bike ride into town and all that that has to offer. On the Lake Placid Club grounds there are three golf courses designed by Scots for the Lake Placid Club. There are also tennis courts and a private beach on Mirror Lake adjacent to the Boat House Restaurant.

There is access to many hiking (and biking) trails right outside the front door. In the winter, these trails are great for cross country skiing. With a car, skiing at the Whiteface is 15 minutes away. In all seasons, near-by activities and attractions are truly limitless.

About Eric and Leanne Burrell

We have been vacationing in Lake Placid for the last twenty years. It is our favorite family vacation spot regardless of the season because there is always something to do.

In addition, we love the international feel of Lake Placid and enjoy meeting people from all over the world.

Eric and Leanne Burrell purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Eric and Leanne Burrell chose Lake Placid

The private setting that is only minutes from downtown Lake Placid is what drew us to this property. Also, we love that it is in the historic Lake Placid Club with access to golf, tennis, and a private beach. Oh, and we can't overlook the joy of being car-free once we arrive at Juniper.

What makes this cottage unique

Very cute cottage in great setting! Cottage is cozy but big enough for large families! Each bedroom has its own bath and private screened in porch. 4 couples can share time together in the great room and kitchen or separate to their own private rooms and porches for quiet time. Want to sleep outside...bring your sleeping bag and spend your night in the lean to in the back yard. We fell in love with this cottage the moment we saw it and knew our many years of looking for the perfect home in Lake Placid was over. We know you will enjoy our home too...for its secluded setting, its close proximity to the village and the feeling of peace that comes over you when you finally arrive at Juniper Cottage.

Privacy and Proximity

  • 5 of 5

Our week long stay at Juniper Cottage was lovely. The cottage is roomy; with 6 adults, we never felt crowded. The 4 bedrooms, baths and private screened porches provided everyone with a little bit of privacy. We enjoyed several nights at the fire pit. The cottage is nestled in the woods with a sense of privacy and yet you are close enough to walk into town to enjoy some food, spirits or shopping. The furnishings are very nice and comfortable. The kitchen is galley style and a bit small but we had no problems and it is nicely stocked. We are planning a return in 2018!

Beautiful Wooded Setting yet Close to Town

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at Juniper Cottage. It was exactly as pictured. It was very clean & inviting and we really loved having a bathroom & porch for each bedroom. The beds were comfy and the quiet setting made it easy to sleep in or spend the mornings relaxing on the porch. It was an easy walk to town (especially to the Lake Placid Brewery). Leanne & Eric were very easy to deal with and I would highly recommend this property. We're already talking about our next visit. Thank you so much for sharing your vacation home with us. A lot of special memories were created on our first trip to this area & we're looking forward to a return trip.

Great spot - with lots of room

  • 5 of 5

Though other reviews indicated the cottage was plenty large, we were still a little apprehensive based on the main picture. Just thought it would be helpful to say that our apprehension was completely misplaced! Our party included 4 adults and 4 teenagers and, despite some unfortunate weather that left us indoors more than we had hoped, we never felt tight for space. Having all the screened in porches was fantastic. The fire pit and Adirondack chairs were great and despite being so close to center of town, it felt like we were in the wilderness. The sound system was amazing for a cottage!

Hideaway in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Juniper cottage was an amazing property set in the woods, but just a short drive away from town. We stayed here with 3 other couples and the privacy of each screened in porch was a perfect touch. Eric and Leanne were so easy to get a hold of and very accommodating. The property was in excellent shape and VERY clean. I have not one complaint about our stay.

Fantastic Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We booked Juniper Cottage for an extended family vacation with six adults and three children. It's very spacious and has lots of room (and fantastic porches) where children can play or adults can relax. We especially loved the large family and dining room. We easily discovered the old, raspberry filled road which leads down to the lake and found the walk to town to be easy enough for our young daughter. It was a wonderful home base to return to after a long day hiking.

I selected the cottage especially for my in-laws and they were absolutely thrilled with it too. My mother-in-law has been vacationing in the area for nearly forty years and it has the the type of old vintage charm she loves, while being completely modern and updated.

The owners were very nice and easy to work with too. If we need a cottage this size in the future, we would happily rent it again.
