One mile to town and Jackson's Beach, Starfish Suite is tucked away on a half-acre with 220 feet of oceanfront. Our bluestone "Pizza Plaza" has a full outdoor kitchen with an authentic stone Pizza Oven, Granite counters, a Fire Magic BBQ, stainless steel sink and refrigerator, all enclosed with a stucco wall. Starfish Suite sets on the edge of the NorthBay. We vacate the property when our guests arrive.

The sunken living room captures the grandeur of the ocean with floor to ceiling windows, giving you a postcard view of the Salish Sea, Dinner Island, and the snow-capped Olympic Mountains. Two love seats face the french wood-stove which is set for the evening fire. Curl up with a book, watch your favorite movies on the 46" Smart TV with Dish 200, Netflix, Amazon, HBO and WiFi, or just enjoy the simple pleasure of being on the ocean's edge.

Romantic gauzy curtains, dreamy white duvets and stunning views! The master suite has a private entry with en- suite bath, a large walk-in closet and opens up to the 70 foot oceanfront deck.

Both bedrooms have luxury bed linens, hypo-allergenic pillows and offer spectacular ocean views.

Drift off to sleep with the lapping of waves and a blanket of stars overhead, wake up to a brilliant sunrise and the call of birdsong.

Overlooking Jackson Beach and Griffin Bay, the bright and sun-filled kitchen is complete with all the essentials for a comfortable stay. There is a desk for your computer and a pantry stocked with gourmet coffee, teas, sparkling water and spices. The dining area seats six.

Just steps to the ocean, the 70 foot deck is the epitome of outdoor living with two Sunbrella chaise lounges, a double hammock, bistro and patio tables, and a Weber BBQ.

Both bathrooms are tiled and have teak floor mats, thick towels, natural soaps and body lotions, and a hair dryer in each bathroom.

About MaryAnn Anderson

Buying our oceanfront property

and building a home overlooking Griffin Bay 30 years ago has been one of our most rewarding and exciting life adventures. At that time, San Juan County had no set back limits on where to build, so we sited our home on the edge of the ocean. Today, it would be impossible to build that close to the water due to set-back regulations. We are fifty feet from the ocean on a private road and one mile from the beach and town. We have been active in community services and volunteer work on the island. David is a retired naval officer, engineer, and San Juan real-estate broker and I am a retired United Airlines International flight attendant and teacher. Our property offers a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of a tourist town. It is always a pleasure to share our little slice of heaven with our guests.

MaryAnn Anderson purchased this apartment in 1988

Why MaryAnn Anderson chose Friday Harbor

Starfish Suite is well located for walks into town and Jackson's Beach. There is always something to do in town, whether your pleasure is fine dining, boutique shopping, visiting our new state of the art Art Institute on Spring Street, going to the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, cruising on the Victorian Clipper to Canada, attending our

San Juan Community Theatre, taking a whale~watching cruise, or just mingling with the 'locals'.

Our private road protects us from the hustle and bustle of tourists and ferry traffic.

What makes this apartment unique

Jackson's Beach is one mile from our home. Beach activities include swimming, beach volley ball, picnicking, sailing, kayaking, wind-surfing and paddle-boarding. We do have private parking for your car with space for a 20 foot boat, which can be launched from nearby Jackson's Beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Oh, Mary Ann, we all had a fabulous time! We were so crazy and comfortable in the Starfish Suite. Thanks for all the amenities (and champagne!). We really never wanted to leave the view from the porch but managed to pull away at least once a day for an outing and berry picking!!! That was an added bonus. Beautiful place and your warm, sweet, creative energy infused the place, very good vibes! Thanks for everything.

Utter perfection

  • 5 of 5

This place is the stuff of dreams: a flight of fancy grounded in luxury and comfort. Infinity water and mountain views from bed, sink, table, couch, deck--it was impossible not to be stunned by the setting. There were times when only the sound of our breathing breached the quiet. And with the sun and the moon playing touch-tag twenty-four hours a day over the panorama of Griffin Bay, it was hard to keep eyes closed long enough to sleep. Having the magic of the San Juan Islands spread out before us made it an act of will to leave our chaises and explore the island. The apartment was up to the peerless setting: beautifully appointed, spacious, well-stocked, and placed five minutes by car from the center of Friday Harbor. Lovely, generous hosts. We'd come back in a heartbeat. I'll be dreaming of this stay for a long time to come.

Tranquil and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Starfish Suite was an excellent getaway in all ways. Amazing deck, It was like being on a boat without any rocking. Beautiful sunrises filtered through gauzy curtains and starry nights you don't get in our urban area. It was comfortable and well appointed, and location near Friday Harbor was very convenient. We enjoyed a lot of hiking on both San Juan Island and Orcas Island, both alpine and beach hikes. Day trip to Victoria also well worth it. Live music and dinner at Rumor Mill was a fun change of pass. Would definitely return 😊

Beautiful and accommodating

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have picked a more perfect house for our respite from the Texas heat. The house provided all the amenities we needed to be comfortable and relaxed for our vacation. Mary Ann provided everything right down to the coffee and paper goods in the pantry and plenty of fresh towels at our disposal. The view from the deck was breathtaking and we spent as much time as possible there enjoying the wildlife of Friday Harbor...including the eagle which stayed closeby for most of our visit. I would strongly recommend this house for anyone looking for an exceptional place to stay.

Thanksgiving at Friday Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely ocean front property over Thanksgiving week. I had to think a few days about what I was going to say about it, if at all. It's like finding that perfect fishing hole that you don't want anyone else to find because they'll flock there and you'll loose your spot. This property is beautiful inside and out. The suite/house is laid out perfectly with ocean views from every room and is just so comfortable. The home is nicely decorated and the bedrooms have beautiful comfy bed coverings. The deck facing the ocean is huge, you could sit out there for hours and never tire of the view. The Kitchen has everything you will need to cook in. My husbands a Chef and he had zero complaints; well, one; its an electric stove not gas. He got over it. There's also a full size laundry room so you don't have to bring a ton of luggage if you're going to stay awhile. What we found super nice was that the owner took the time to decorate the home with Thanksgiving accents which gave us that at home feeling. Owners, Mary Ann and David were easy to work with and they make sure your deposit is refunded immediately. Everything was perfect plus this home is very conveniently located to the town area of Friday Harbor. You'll enjoy your stay here. We look forward to a return trip, hopefully next summer, if it's not all booked up!

Granite Girls getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Starfish Suite was the perfect place for our girls getaway and mini high school reunion. We never bored of chatting on the deck and watching the amazing scenery, but managed to tear ourselves away to take in most of the sights of the island. Mary Ann was a delight to work with, she repsonded promptly when I had any questions and she welcomed us with champagne chilling in the fridge, as well as brochures for I bet every island activity. Every room in the house was very comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked. We were thrilled to be within walking distance of Friday Harbor AND to be right on the water. Three of us had never been to the San Juans and they loved it. Have I mentioned that the views from every room in the house were absolutely breathtaking!! We would all return in a heartbeat and highly recommend this lovely vacation spot.

Perfect Spot

  • 5 of 5

Starfish Suite was just perfect for the week my husband, teenage daughter and I spent in the San Juan Islands. Close enough to walk to Friday Harbor, we could easily split up if some wanted to explore and others wanted to stay home. The suite is very spacious and comfortable, so there were several mornings that we found it hard to leave. What a delight to wake up to a view of the sea! We spent most of our time exploring San Juan Island itself, but did ferry over to Orcas one day with our car. It is super easy to ferry between the islands. We recommend the lavender farm and walking/hiking in American and British Camp. Mary Ann was super helpful and the property is immaculate.
