Private access to beach, outdoor grill and fire pit available.
No pets and no smoking. Owners within walking distance.
My husband bought this unusual property in 1980 and built the original house beach side which was a rental for many years. When we began our lives together, we moved into the beach house and began to build the loft 2 years ago. We hope you love it here as much as we do. You can be as busy as you want to or just kick back, walk the beaches for miles, or just sit in the sun with a good book
There are only 5 privately owned lots on Elberta Beach and Phil bought 3 of them, so, we don't have a lot of neighbors.
You are approximately 400 ft. from the beach and the break wall fishing pier. In the fall people come from miles around to surf fish for steel head some times building a fire on the beach. When the winds are right you can watch kite sailors, wind surfers, regular surfers, and hang gliders who often land In our front yard. Almost every weekend in summer there will be a wedding going on at the shore.
This was our second week-long, 4th of July stay at the loft and it was once again lovely and restful.
The outside deck with its view of the lake, light, and gardens is the perfect spot to eat, read, or just veg. Patio table, chairs, lounge chair and grill are provided, and they are all in top-notch condition.
Inside follows suit with its fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, comfy living area, and welcoming bed and bathrooms. Everything is new and spotless and there's plenty of space for clothing and other stuff you might bring. I wish my closet at home was this nice!
The location is excellent and normally very peaceful. There is private beach access and it's a short drive to the Conundrum Cafe for coffee, ice cream, bike rentals, and local goods. A handful of restaurants are also nearby and the relative sprawling metropolis of Frankfort is just across the bay for even more shops and eateries.
Phil and Rosemary are great hosts with the right mix of friendly helpfulness and respect for privacy. We are so happy to have found them and the Loft at Elberta Beach.
Enjoy your stay!!
Five stars for this rental does not do it justice! We have used VRBO every time we have rented a vacation spot and this has been the cutest and cleanest we have stayed at. Rosemary and Phil were great host and thought of everything. The beach was just steps away to view the beautiful sunsets. Sleeping Bear Dunes was a beautiful drive north and was an amazing sight as were the towns around it. We can not say enough about The Loft, Rosemary and Phil, and the beauty of northern Michigan in the fall. You just need to rent The Loft and experience it. Oh and we cannot forget the apples! Rosemary even picked a bag for us to take home. Sweet couple!
My wife and I rented at the Loft for a second summer in a row. We brought our 6 month old, new addition with us as well. We had a fantastic time once again! Rosemary and Phil are phenomenal hosts and go out of their way to provide for a great stay. They are a great help when needed and offer a very quiet and peaceful experience. There were a few additions to the Loft this summer that added a new dimension, in the form of a hammock, as well as a TV/DVD player. We didn't partake in the technology addition because of so many great things to do in the Frankfort/Elberta area. We went to both Elberta and Frankfort beaches and walked to downtown Elberta for coffee at the Conundrum Cafe (multiple times) and downtown Frankfort for the wonderful farmers market on Saturday, which is a can't miss. We love our time at the Loft and in Frankfort/Elberta and look forward to it each summer. We will certainly be back once again and look forward to raising our son each summer, walking thru Phil and Rosemary's garden and into many, many more sunsets and memories!! Thanks to both of you for allowing us to stay at your absolutely perfect Loft! See you next summer!

My husband and rented this cottage for my daughters wedding on the beach in frankfort. She lives in San Diego so we did all our arrangements via email. Rosemary and Neil were the most gracious hosts in helping us with some of our arrangements. She ended up getting married on the elberta beach and the loft was perfectly located for our event. The loft is even better than the pictures show. Quiet location, easy access to the beach. Beautifully furnished . Would highly recommend this to a couple for a perfect getaway. Only a few minutes from downtown frankfort with fantastic restaurants. Thank you Phil and Rosemary.
My husband and I spent our babymoon vacation here this past July. It exceeded ALL of our expectations. Not only is the location nothing short of magical but the loft itself was beautifully designed and functioned perfectly. Being an interior designer, I'm not often easily impressed but we enjoyed every bit of our loft stay. We enjoyed cooking in, grilling out and eating out in downtown Frankfort/Elberta area.
The beach (just steps away) is one of the most incredible Michigan beaches there is. Beautiful and often we were the only ones there which was lovely for reading, lunch at the beach, napping and swimming. It felt like a Spa experience. This part of Michigan has a Northern California feel. We watched hang gliders from above, a wedding at the beach, built a bon fire on the beach at sunset (sunsets are fantastic!) and just enjoyed our vacation thoroughly. We already booked for next year! We look forward to our return and bringing our baby! Thank you to Phil & Rosemary for sharing your slice of heaven.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the loft for a week, and needless to say, we miss it!! The loft is brand new, modern, extremely convenient. It seems that they thought of everything you'll need on your stay. The kitchen has every single kitchenware needed, you can bake a cake if you want to! The rest of the loft is cute, cozy and comfortable; perfect for a couple. The deck is really nice too, we would have breakfast and dinner almost everyday out on the deck. It comes with a gas grill, so you can barbecue out there and a nice patio set to relax on.
Lets talk about the beach, and those sunsets!! We did not miss a sunset, they are truly breathtaking out on Lake Michigan. The owners allow bonfires on the beach(which is pretty isolated and mostly empty of people) they let us use their firewood. It was beautiful out there, and the sky is just amazing at night. The owners Phil and Rosemary are the sweetest people, and really try and make your stay the best it could be. They live across the street and are not intrusive at all.
The town of Frankfort is just a 2 min car ride away or 10 bike ride. We preferred via bike because the ride is so fun! There is a bike trail "The Betsie River Trail" on the way, I recommend it! You will pass Betsie Lake, but keep going until it turns to gravel, because Crystal Lake is beautiful!!
Summary: STAY HERE!! You will not regret it. There is no t.v. at the loft, you will be forced to spend quality time and go out and explore! If it rains, read a book from their collection or play a game. They have several board games their too. If you go to Frankfort, I recommend the restaurants Fusion and Coho Cafe for dinner. Storm Cloud Brewing Company has the best pizza and Kilwin's fudge is the best! The owners of the loft are amazing, down to earth people and I enjoyed every minute of my stay!
Rolling hills and water abound in this area. we have mushroom hunting and brook trout fishing in the spring, salmon fishing all season and many local orchards and wild berry picking if you are lucky enough to stumble on them. There are art and craft festivals, car shows and other activities such as fire works and celebrations.
