Between the Eastern Promenade and the Old Port stands Munjoy Hill, a friendly, colorful neighborhood with restaurants, a local foods grocer, cafes, art center. Munjoy Hill is a 10-15 minute walk to the Old Port's shopping, restaurants and nightlife ('downtown') - and a 5-10 minute walk to the grassy fields, playground, and beach at the Eastern Promenade (Portland's prettiest waterfront park.)
Our vacation rental is the top two stories of an apartment building on top of the hill, directly facing the Portland Observatory with views to the ocean, the harbor, and over the whole city. Sunny, spacious, and comfortable, the 2-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom apartment has everything you need for your Portland vacation.
Built in 1886 our building combines old world charm with completely renovated apartments. The vacation rental is a two-story apartment with two bedrooms (queen bed and double bed) and two bathrooms on the building's third floor. The master bathroom has a custom tile shower. The hallway bathroom has a bathtub shower. Both bathrooms have radiant floor heat. The fourth floor is an open floor plan with a modern kitchen, den area with Smart TV, plenty of chairs for lounging, and a small powder room. The maple wood floors and modern fixtures are all brand new. The triple-glazed windows (made in Maine!) keep it comfortable year-round.
We live part-time in another apartment in the building. We're happy to help you plan your Portland vacation.
My husband Mark and I live in rural Maine but have spent the past year in Portland renovating this building. Though our 'day jobs' consist of computer work we enjoyed building our home in the woods and wanted to keep on building. Portland drew us in with fantastic food from the restaurants to the farmers' markets, and kept us returning for live music, art walks, local brews, and beautiful nearby beaches.
Stephanie Dunn purchased this apartment in 2009
Once we visited Munjoy Hill we didn't want to stay anywhere else in Portland. The neighborhood is friendly with interesting architecture. We can easily walk to nightlife in the Old Port (without having to hear it while trying to sleep.) I love jogging the trail around the Back Cove and over to the East End Beach. We enjoy making dinner with fresh seafood from the Harbor Fish Market and fresh produce from Rosemont - both within walking distance. We rarely get in a car when we're in Portland.
The views from our fourth floor are some of the best in Portland. Watch the moon rise behind the Portland Observatory or the sun set over the Back Cove with The Presidential Mountains in the distance. See the fireworks from Sea Dogs games. We often hear 'wow' as people crest the stairs to the fourth floor for the first time. It is a wow apartment.
My sisters and I visited Portland for a long weekend at the end of the summer. Steph met us at CumbyHouse , helped us with our luggage and essentials(wine lol). We arrived to a beautiful view on top of the hill. Stephanie's home was immaculate, comfortable and located in the perfect place in Portland.
I hope we can return to Maine and CumbyHousefor another great visit! Thanks!
We were very happy with the property itself and location. It suited our needs perfectly. I would highly recommend it if you are staying in Portland
Large, comfortable, beautifully done apartment in a great location with fabulous views! Lots of space, great bedrooms, having 2 1/2 bathrooms was a bonus. Nice balcony to enjoy the views. And walking up the hill from old port helps work off the gelato! Stephanie was a dream to deal with.
Highly recommend this place!
My adult son and I stayed here, and it was great. Very nice, helpful and accommodating owners. Very well appointed and supplied. The main living floor is filled with lights and windows, with great views. Would definitely recommend.
We loved our stay in Portland!! The apartment is in a great location. The Munjoy neighborhood is interesting and welcoming-with great shops and restaurants run by friendly folks. Portland's Old Port is within walking distance. The apartment has a modern aesthetic designed for lounging and gathering. The kitchen is fully stocked and bedroom and bath outfitted with quality linens. We had few days of rain and stayed indoors for much needed relaxation. Other days we explored the Eastern Promenade, observatory, downtown Portland, Peaks Island, and Scarborough Beach. Steph and Mark were awesome, providing helpful recommendations for the area and quick responses to questions. We hope to go back!
You know it is a great place when you start planning a return visit before you leave. This is one of the best VRBO we have experienced for location to the restaurants, downtown and sightseeing. It was very easy contacting the owners. This experience wants us to continue using VRBO.
Munjoy Hill stands between the brick buildings of the Old Port full of shops and restaurants, and the Eastern Promenade - the best recreation zone in Portland with a playground, beach, grassy fields, ball courts, kayak tours, paddle board rentals and more. The hill is a friendly neighborhood with great restaurants - The Front Room, Silly's, local foods grocer Rosemont Market, coffee shops, bakeries, Miccuci's Italian Market, Otto's Pizza (mashed potato bacon scallion!), plus unique vintage and craft shops. At the foot of the hill is Bayside with new breweries where you can taste craft beers, and check out the latest food trucks. Easy access to Portland Trails means scenic routes around the back bay or along the water to the Old Port.
