While Pam and I grew up in New York State, this is our ideal place to be due to the location, the quality of the home and the sense of peace you feel here. I'm a graduate of Cornell, Pam of Manhattanville College and we both have masters from Syracuse. Our careers took us to Rochester, Sacramento and now Scottsdale. We love being at the lake - plenty of space to spread out and entertain family and friends in comfort! We have furnished the home with many antiques from our families as well as personal momentos. You will love this location as we do!
Tom Billard purchased this house in 2001
When we built the home in 2002 ( my Dad bought the old fishing cottage that dated back to the 1920s in 1968) we wanted to capitalize on the private location - end of the road and water on three sides. Unlike many other lake properties, this is totally private and secluded. Looking to the south, all you see is water and the beautiful, ever lasting hills. The lake is relatively small so most boaters are in canoes, on boards or in small watercraft. Sit on the porch (take your pick of one of four) and wave to those going by - it is so peaceful. When we built the house, we incorporated the old claw foot bathtub from the old cottage as well as four Tompkins County grilles in the overlook; our objective has been to provide our guests a comfortable, relaxing experience. We've had the property going on 50 years; we love to share it with our guests. It is like 'On Golden Pond.'
The porches are great - perfect for entertaining. On a cool evening, enjoy a fire while watching TV or reading a book. The wireless is perfect for your PC or ipad; take it anywhere. The adults can be downstairs while the kids can watch videos or play games upstairs. Go for a row and explore the lake? Lots of nooks and crannies here to explore, especially all the old cottages at the north end of the lake. While we are secluded, we are a short, scenic 25 minutes from Skaneateles or Syracuse - all the dining and entertainment you might want.
The Tully Lake House provided many memories that we will treasure forever! Working with Tom, the owner was a pleasure every step of the way. The place was much nicer than we anticipated! The porches and window provide scenic views of the property and the lake. The house is big enough to accommodate eleven people comfortably. We were able to spread out and enjoy some privacy because the house has two wings and an upstairs. On rainy days, my southern grandchildren, enjoyed running around in the basement with their cousins, the kids had never seen a house with a basement before so it proved to be an unepected treat for them! The lake was quiet and we fished from shore and from boats. My two year old grandson caught his first fish ever. We visited Tinkers Falls, Laborbor Unique Area, enjoyed bike riding, a small town Memorial Day Parade, a family reunion and our niece's graduation from Cornell University. We were very pleased with this rental experience and I highly recommend it for people with friends or children who want a quiet relaxing place to enjoy time together!
Our extended family will happily gather again this coming summer at this lovely, air-conditioned Tully Lake home. There is plenty of room for our multi-generational gathering, and lots to do on, in and around the lake. Multiple decks provide sunshine at various times of the day and each has a different view of the lake. We enjoy coffee in the morning overlooking the boat house and cocktails in the evening with a view over the lawn to the lake beyond. There is so much to see and do in the beautiful Finger Lakes region, that we never fail to find something new to do. The Tully area sweet corn and local home-made pies are exceptional. We especially enjoyed the vegetable garden at the house while we were there this year! For me, dreaming of our stay at the Tully Lake House helps to get me through the winter. It is a tranquil and enchanting escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life ... a gift that the owners share with us each year. We highly recommend it!
We have stayed in this house for 5 straight summers and are coming back next year. Tully is a very pretty lake with lily pads along the shore. The lake is not too big so there aren't lots of speed boats whooshing around, just a lot of peace. Great for swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing. The view from the front porch can't be matched by any house on the lake. We like to sit on the front porch and soak up the view. The owners work hard to make the house comfortable for their guests. After 5 years it almost seems like going home, except this house is in a much nicer setting than mine! There are also many state and local parks and trails nearby that are within easy driving distance for those that like to hike or climb up water falls and mountains!
Amazing! For two years in a row we have had the pleasure of "borrowing" this home away from home for our Thanksgiving vacation. The location of the spacious yet cozy house may be the best on the Lake with three sides overlooking the water. We have fallen in love with property. The house itself is more than big enough to accommodate my extended family and some friends. We have had the luxury of having it snow on both visits- gorgeous! I can only imagine how beautiful it is during the summer months. The owners welcomed us each time with a phone call to make sure we arrived safely and had everything we needed. Such a pleasure to have found this gem in Upstate New York.
What a beautiful home! The Lakehouse is very clean and spacious, and at the same time it is warm and cozy. The fireplace in the Great Room, the intimate dining area, and beautiful views from each room, make this home a very satisfying place to stay. It feels like "your home" from the moment you arrive. With two outdoor, covered porches, an outdoor fire pit, a boathouse with rowboat, canoe, and bicycles, we were all as happy as could be. There is something for everyone here. We enjoyed the spacious kitchen for baking apple pies after apple-picking all day. The weather this October was beautiful, sunny and warm, allowing us to get out onto the water several times during our stay. Thank you Pam and Tom for being so welcoming and opening your beautiful home to us. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back for another visit.
Great location … with water on three sides and able to watch the sun come up!
Great amenities … with a wonderful swing on the front porch!!
Great additions that you normally wouldn't think of … a boat dock with a canoe and a row boat AND a "bonfire" on which we all roasted marshmallows!
Great choice for a Finger Lakes experience!
There is a great deal to see and do in Upstate New York. We are about 25 minutes from the easternmost Finger Lake, Skaneateles Lake. The village of Skaneateles has numerous shopping and dining options plus boat tours on Skaneateles Lake. The mail boat tour during the summer is particularly memorable - one of few still operating in the country.
Auburn is 6 miles west of Skaneateles - a small city, it is the hometown of two major Civil War figures - William Seward and Harriett Tubman. The historical sites are well worth a visit.
To the east on NY 80, Cooperstown is a most pleasant ride through the beautiful countryside. Cooperstown has numerous attractions including the Fenimore Art Museum, Baseball Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum, many interesting shops and Revolutionary War history. Don't miss lunch or dinner at the Otesaga Hotel!
To the north, Syracuse has many options to include Syracuse University, the Everson Museum, a revitalized downtown and the Erie Canal Museum. Lunch at the famous Dinosaur BBQ is a must!
Further north, up I-81 about 100 miles is the 1,000 Islands Region. Major communities include Clayton, Alexandria Bay and Sacket's Harbor. The boat museum in Clayton is most comprehensive; a ride on the river from the James Street docks in Alex Bay is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon seeing how the rich and famous lived. Sacket's Harbor was a major battlefield in the War of 1812.
To the south, Ithaca and Cornell University are a short 40 minutes away. Corning, home of the world famous Corning Glass Works, is about 90 miles from Tully Lake. The revamped Glass museum and the village of Corning are beautiful.
In short, there are many sights to see and experiences to enjoy!
PS - Don't miss the smaller pleasures in life such as the A&W in Cortland, the Country Flavor's ice cream stand in Little York (huge scoops for not much money!) Doug's Fish Fry (locations in Skaneateles and Cortland), the summer Cortland Rep playhouse on Little York Lake, the kiddie park at the Little York Park and Purity Ice Cream in Ithaca.
