Wonderful Home in Kailua
We were really happy with this home. The location is wonderful, it's a short, easy walk to the beach and Kailua is a beautiful town.
The home itself is kept up well, 3 bedrooms, the kitchen/dining room has plenty of space and a there's a very comfortable living room. We actually used all three decks regularly and the pool made for great lazy days at the house
There is a tenant upstairs (who we never met or heard) and a home in back with friendly and respectful neighbors
We would definitely come back here if possible!
Great private pool! Nice neighborhood house!
What we loved:
The pool! Always warm! Sparkling clean! Yes, exclusively for your use.
Air conditioning in the house!
New dining set on main deck makes it a great outdoor gathering spot.
Good grill with lots of gas, good utensils.
Comfy outdoor sofa and chairs on master bedroom deck; great place to curl up and read.
Hawaiian vibe...a neighborhood house with nice wood floors and furniture.
Lamp and bedside table on both sides of each bed.
Good showers with enough hot water and water pressure.
Convenient outdoor hose to wash off beach sand.
Laundry room with good washer and dryer and a deep utility sink.
Well-stocked house: toilet paper, paper towels, foil, garbage bags, dishwasher and laundry detergents, coffee grinder, toaster, etc.
Lots of beach towels.
Closet with sand toys, 2 useable boogie boards, beach chairs (we didn't use the snorkle gear).
Good parking in carport behind house for one car; more parking on street.
Comfortable sectional seating in living room for 6+.
Spacious interior, big rooms.
Several sets of glass doors for good ventilation and that island feeling.
What we noticed (but none are deal-breakers):
Kitchen pans are no longer flat on the bottom and teflon is scarred.
Bath towels, bed linens and master bed mattress could use an update.
Flat pillows (we bought cheap ones at Target and took them to next vrbo).
A few cockroaches (but our luxury vrbo rental in North Shore had a couple, too...this is tropical Hawaii...)
Walk to beach is more like 2 1/2 city blocks, but easy, even in flip-flops.
Eric, the tenant in the back house on the property, is very helpful and gave us good advice about whatever we asked. He and the quiet, very nice tenant above us both completely respected our privacy.
The part of Kailua beach you walk to is heaven...soft sand, with turquoise water so beautiful it looks unreal. No bathrooms, but it is a short enough walk back to the house. Windy? Yes, especially in the afternoon. A baseball-style cap with a firm brim helps. We had 84-degree days and used the A/C from about 4-9 pm. Would have been hot without it. Ceiling fans and floor fans in bedrooms kept us cool at night, so we didn't need A/C then.
Don't miss Lanikai beach, Buzz's Steakhouse, and the Pillboxes hike (views!).
We were lucky enough to be there for the 4th of July Kailua parade. Fantastic neighborhood spirit, with all of us taking our lawn chairs to line the parade route. This house felt like our very own Hawaiian home!
Beautiful house near the beach!
We could not have chosen a better place to stay for our daughter's graduation from HPU. Not only was the house clean, updated, comfortable and beautiful, but the decks and pool were like a little piece of paradise. The house sleeps 6 comfortably, and there is an extra mattress for a 7th. The house is only a 5 minute walk from a gorgeous, sandy beach. Erik, who lives behind the house, was especially friendly, helpful and accommodating. He really exemplified that aloha spirit and "ohana". We've never experienced such hospitality at any place we've stayed. We will definitely be back!
Great place to stay!
Wow! What a vacation! We have just returned home from our home away from home in Hawaii. That is exactly what this rental felt like. We had everything we needed from a washing machine and dryer, to a furnished kitchen with appliances, dishes, and cooking supplies, to scuba and beach gear. Being just a block from the beach made watching the sunrise in the morning and zipping down to the beach for a stroll effortless. At night, grilled dinner from the grill on the covered patio by the pool was a great way to enjoy time with family and cool off after a busy, hot day. The owner was extremely helpful when a need would arise. We would absolutely stay here again when we return to Kailua!
This house was just perfect for our family vacation. The location is fantastic....close to the beach, bus stop and town. The house had everything we needed including beach and pool gear and was very comfortable. The pool was fantastic and the newly installed aircon a real bonus. Owner was very easy to deal with and the neighbour was friendly and very helpful. We would definitely rent his property again and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks for a fantastic vacation.
Quiet Retreat but needs A/C
The house is only a 5 minute walk to the beach and it is a lovely beach. The pool was lovely and warm and the master bedroom has a deck that opens to the pool. The house has ample seating whether you are eating, relaxing or sitting outside. Neighborhood is quiet and we felt very safe. The owner was easy to work with and very responsive when we needed something. We stayed for a little over a week with warm temps, very high humidity, and quiet trades. Here is my major issue with the house. There is an apt. above the house that was closed up tight almost the entire time we were there. The heat in the house was oppressive especially if you closed up the house to go out. There was really no way to cool it down. There are fans, but with the humidity and heat and the trades only blowing lightly it was miserable in the house. Plus add a hot apt. on top of you and you just bake. We had to sleep with the doors wide open on top of the beds. This definitely had an effect on our time there.
I agree it was quite warm. We had a record hot spell here in Hawaii. I did provide extra fans. One thing we can not do is control the weather.

Only one block to fantastic Kailua Beach
