O'hana means 'family' in Hawaiian. And there is no better way to enjoy family than in this home. The 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house is located on the Kona Coast in the rural and friendly development of Milolii. Hale O'hana comes with all the amenities necessary for a comfortable stay in Hawaii from towels, kitchen accessories, washer and eco-friendly dryer (i.e. line dry), to entertainment. There is a 10,000 gallon catchment tank, so lack of water isn't an issue. However, using the catchment water is not recommended for personal consumption. Water will be provided for drinking and cooking. This open and airy home allows ample room for family and friends. It sleeps 6 comfortably and 8 cozily. But the best features come from the landscape. The enclosed lanai allows for peaceful, mosquito-free, time outside and breathtaking views year round.
I, Elizabeth, and my husband Rick are from the beautiful state of Oregon. We are from a rural town and are very involved in agriculture. We work our tails off in the summer and treat ourselves to our house in Hawaii in the winter. There is no escape from the Oregon rain like a vacation in Milolii!
Rick and Elizabeth Phelan purchased this house in 2012
We love spending time with our wonderfully large family (which is expanding as we speak). And after falling in love with Hawaii, our 'Home Away From Home', we knew we wanted to include our children and future grandchildren. There is no better way to make memories then with the ones you love! We needed a home that could fit our rambunctious family as well as provide enough activities to fit their range of ages and interests. We also wanted it to be peaceful and relaxing. I know, I know, a large and rambunctious family and peace usually don't mix, but it works for us and it works in Hale O'hana!
There is no other place like Milolii where you can experience the local feel of Hawaii but have all of the amenities of home. The rural feel and friendliness of neighbors, the spectacular views, and the relaxing quiet feel is incomparable.
Milolii is a remote village that quickly feels like home when you stay at Rick and Elizabeth's beautiful and well-appointed house! We were sure to stop at Costco and Target on our way in to grab essentials and were overprepared-- the house had so much of what we needed. Kitchen had all the gear and gadgets you could want, bathrooms had TP and even some leftover sun lotions from previous guests. The master bed was firm but plush and I slept like a log!! We heard horror stories about some bugs you find in island homes but we didn't see a single one. Lynn, the caretaker of the home, stopped by once to make recommendations and ensure we had everything we needed, and even left out some kid toys for our almost-two-year-old which was very thoughtful. We were the loudest house on the block with our occasionally screaming toddler-- it is VERY quiet and still, which is a big transition for us city-dwellers on the mainland. But we felt safe, relaxed, and happy all week and would go back again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for your hospitality!!
We loved our stay here. It was very quiet and the view was great. It had comfortable beds and plenty of privacy. We ate every meal as a family on the screened in lanai. The only negative is the very steep hill you have to drive down to get to it.
Great house! It could have been cleaner but other than that it was great.
This property is located in the heart of milolii. It's about a 30 minute drive from hookena and about an hour drive into Kailua Kona. The house is beautiful and so is the ocean views and it's so relaxing to sip on coffee in the covered lanai...protected from mosquitoes. The nearest beach is a rock beach which is cool to chill at night. If you want peace and tranquility this is the place but, If you're trying to be close to all the things you do in Kona just know you're going to have to drive a bit. Thanks for allowing us to stay here it was wonderful.
Great place that was comfortable and relaxing. Cleaning service could use some work, there were quite a few areas that weren't clean. I would definitely stay here again!
We arrived late in the evening and everything was ready for us. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, the heat was welcome but the gentle breeze flowing through the open windows kept the master suite very comfortable. Waking to the sun peeking over the mountain and the choir of birds was heavenly. The cooler morning temperature encourages one to get outside and walk, so we did! The paved roads of the beach lots make it easy, just be sure to bring a bottle of water with you. The layout of the house is wonderful and very comfortable. The kitchen looks west over the beach lots and to the ocean. Be sure to stop at one of the KTA stores in Kona/Keauhou on your way to the house to pick up some basics (hair and shower items, breakfast stuff before you get to the farmers markets, maybe a beach towel or two if they have them or make a trip back to Walmart). Unfortunately it seems previous guests have decided to take the beach towels and snorkel gear with them, so you will need to rent or purchase your own there. The neighbors were very nice and we met several new friends during our week. If you are out and about and heading back to the house from the highway, a few days a week you will see the local fishermen up at the intersection of Highway 11 and Milolii Road. You can NOT get fresher fish than this unless you catch it yourself! The prices are the best around too... Look for Damon, he will set you up for Ahi Sashimi that will make your eyes roll !! I know that living in the tropics, there are gonna be critters that skitter. Not here ! The cleanliness of the house, the pro-active measures taken as well as the Gold Dust Day Geckos that hang out on the lanai keep the crawlies under control. We so enjoyed our week at your home away from hoe that we are now convinced we need to be Milolii Neighbors soon. Aloha and Mahalo for sharing!!
There is no better way to 'Live Aloha' than in Milolii. The drive down to the Hale O'Hana is filled with picture perfect scenery of orchards and ocean views. And the 'Last Hawaiian Fishing Village' is a short drive away. The activities available are limitless. Besides diving, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, walking, laying on black sand beaches, tennis, basketball, there is even whale watching from December through March. If you look closely, you may even glimpse some Spinner Dolphins and turtles. Milolii is only 10 minutes from Coffee Plantations, 30 minutes from the Historic City of Refuge, 30 minutes from Kona, 60 minutes from Kilauea, the active volcano, and 60 minutes from golfing. The activities are limitless, and the location peaceful and gorgeous! Milolii is a true portrayal of Aloha!
