About the property

Peace And Comfort High On A Hill With 'Breathgiving' Views

Perched high in the hills you will feel like you truly have a birds eye view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From the comfort of the air chairs on the covered porch you look out over the surrounding trees and green rolling hills in the valley to the distant peaks of the blue-tinted mountains that give them their name.

There is just one step into the main level which features an open floor plan so the cook can converse with everyone from the kitchen to the dining and living rooms. Down the hall are 2 bedrooms - one with a full bed and the other with 2 twin beds - and a full bath between.

Upstairs is a large loft which has a queen sleeper sofa and more games and toys than a kid could hope for. The loft also has a half bath for convenience. There is a small TV with a video library of classic movies.

Downstairs is a game room with dart board and bumper pool, laundry room and the master suite with a queen bed and a nice walk in shower.

When you have filled your lungs with the fresh air and just can't relax anymore, there are so many activities waiting for you within a short drive...the house is located near mm288 just off the Blue Ridge Parkway between Boone and Blowing Rock...take a leisurely cruise on the Parkway in search of the perfect hiking trail, wade in the cool water of a Price Lake stream, take the 1 mile scenic (and flat) walk around Bass Lake then marvel at the high quality crafts at the Cone Manor. No trip to the highlands is complete without a drive to the top of Grandfather Mountain to traverse across the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Not much further down the road is Linville Caverns and Falls. And if you have the young ones with you, Tweetsie is a must...you can hear the whistle blow from the house! After fun filled days come home to the comfort of your retreat high on the hill.

The atmosphere and furnishings of this home exudes comfort. It is a cool reprieve from the heat of summer and it wraps you in warmth during the cool months. The high ceilings and beautiful wood wall paneling complete the picture perfect mountain home. We promise, you will never want to leave...but you can always come back again!

About Kathy Phillips

Bob is a native North Carolinian and Kathy transplanted from Pennsylvania long enough ago (1968) to claim NC as home. We live and work in Raleigh, but love all that this state has to offer. We escape in either direction - to the mountains and to the coast (check out our Ocracoke listing #481717) every chance we can, but with two kids to put through college it's not often enough. So, until the day when we are free to move about the country, we would like to share our home away from home with like minded folks who appreciate taking time to relax and rejuvenate.

Kathy Phillips purchased this house in 1998

Why Kathy Phillips chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Bob's family has a summer home on the same hill and he grew up coming here. So when this house became available we took the plunge. With two young children at the time, it may have been too early to think about retirement, but we always knew we would someday like to live in the mountains. What we got was a place our kids could be free to run out the door to play with the lifelong good friends they found on the hill.

What makes this house unique

Whether you are cozy on the couch, warming up around the fire pit, or swinging in the air chairs, you will enjoy a change of pace in these hills. Our place is one that gives people time to gain new perspectives and appreciate the nature around you.

Such a Beautiful View!

  • 5 of 5

Our family just enjoyed a great long week- end at High Peak Haven. We had a great time! The house was exactly as described, absolutely charming. There were six adults and we had everything we needed - plenty of room to spread out. The view from the covered porch was absolutely beautiful! What time we weren't out shopping, hiking, or whatever, we were on the covered porch, fighting over the air chairs. I don't think I could ever get tired of sitting on that porch! The house is in a great neighborhood yet, it was like we were in our own little world - very private. We got a bonus of getting to meet the owners. They were so great. We will definitely be going back. Loved it!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Jill. It was great to have the opportunity to meet you and your wonderful family. You are welcome to come back anytime! Do we need to add more air chairs?

The view was absolutely incredible! We loved this home and felt right at home here.

  • 5 of 5

This home was exactly as promised by the owners. It was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Being from the hot humid Georgia Coast, we were a little worried about no ac. We had nothing to worry about. The cool mountain air was most comfortable. It was a very short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway and both Blowing Rock and Boone. I would just recommend that if you have more than 2 or 3 cars, you will need to park such that you can get out without backing up. The neighbor across the way does not want anyone backing up in her driveway.

Lovely house, astonishing long range views

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely house in an astonishing location, on a high ridge with a view of distant mountains to the north. The house is completely private, on a dead end road, and shielded on both sides from the neighbors. We felt like we were completely alone, until the last night when a group of women arrived next door & we could hear their laughter. The house itself is very attractive, made of post and beam construction. It has been well kept up and is in great shape. The back porch is particularly nice and we spent lodes of time out there, drinking in the view. We cooked most of our meals in the well stocked kitchen, and slept deeply with the windows wide open. We were there in July and had no need of air conditioning. We estimate that the house is at 4000 feet. We will definitely return.

Amazing Views

  • 4 of 5

The photos on line do not do justice to the views you get from the deck of this property. You can see forever across the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains (unless there is a lot of humidity). This home is close to both Blowing Rock and Boone with a variety of restaurants to choose from. We highly recommend Lost Provisions Brewery in Boone. Food is really good along with the beer. If you enjoy hiking, lots of trails to choose from and we recommend a trip up Grandfather Mountain. We would definitely return to the area especially during the fall months.

Super views, nice home

  • 4 of 5

We travelled with our son, daughter-in-law and our two and four year old grandkids. We arrived to heavy rain and cold after dark, so navigating the steep drive was a bit scary. Once we got the heat going we found the house just as described. We enjoyed the space that allowed us to spread out. The kids loved the "old-fashioned-toy loft". They also loved the large "rain room" shower in the master bath downstairs. When the fog and clouds would clear we were overwhelmed by the amazing view from the deck. The fireplace indoors was a big hit as the temps dipped into the 30s. To say we had a wonderful time with the bad weather that lasted our three days, speaks to the friendly accommodations. On outings the kids were anxious to return to the house. And the owners were easy to work with. Be sure to spend time in downtown Blowing Rock with the great park and lake.
