Perched high in the hills you will feel like you truly have a birds eye view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From the comfort of the air chairs on the covered porch you look out over the surrounding trees and green rolling hills in the valley to the distant peaks of the blue-tinted mountains that give them their name.
There is just one step into the main level which features an open floor plan so the cook can converse with everyone from the kitchen to the dining and living rooms. Down the hall are 2 bedrooms - one with a full bed and the other with 2 twin beds - and a full bath between.
Upstairs is a large loft which has a queen sleeper sofa and more games and toys than a kid could hope for. The loft also has a half bath for convenience. There is a small TV with a video library of classic movies.
Downstairs is a game room with dart board and bumper pool, laundry room and the master suite with a queen bed and a nice walk in shower.
When you have filled your lungs with the fresh air and just can't relax anymore, there are so many activities waiting for you within a short drive...the house is located near mm288 just off the Blue Ridge Parkway between Boone and Blowing Rock...take a leisurely cruise on the Parkway in search of the perfect hiking trail, wade in the cool water of a Price Lake stream, take the 1 mile scenic (and flat) walk around Bass Lake then marvel at the high quality crafts at the Cone Manor. No trip to the highlands is complete without a drive to the top of Grandfather Mountain to traverse across the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Not much further down the road is Linville Caverns and Falls. And if you have the young ones with you, Tweetsie is a must...you can hear the whistle blow from the house! After fun filled days come home to the comfort of your retreat high on the hill.
The atmosphere and furnishings of this home exudes comfort. It is a cool reprieve from the heat of summer and it wraps you in warmth during the cool months. The high ceilings and beautiful wood wall paneling complete the picture perfect mountain home. We promise, you will never want to leave...but you can always come back again!
Bob is a native North Carolinian and Kathy transplanted from Pennsylvania long enough ago (1968) to claim NC as home. We live and work in Raleigh, but love all that this state has to offer. We escape in either direction - to the mountains and to the coast (check out our Ocracoke listing #481717) every chance we can, but with two kids to put through college it's not often enough. So, until the day when we are free to move about the country, we would like to share our home away from home with like minded folks who appreciate taking time to relax and rejuvenate.
Kathy Phillips purchased this house in 1998
Bob's family has a summer home on the same hill and he grew up coming here. So when this house became available we took the plunge. With two young children at the time, it may have been too early to think about retirement, but we always knew we would someday like to live in the mountains. What we got was a place our kids could be free to run out the door to play with the lifelong good friends they found on the hill.
Whether you are cozy on the couch, warming up around the fire pit, or swinging in the air chairs, you will enjoy a change of pace in these hills. Our place is one that gives people time to gain new perspectives and appreciate the nature around you.
Our family just enjoyed a great long week- end at High Peak Haven. We had a great time! The house was exactly as described, absolutely charming. There were six adults and we had everything we needed - plenty of room to spread out. The view from the covered porch was absolutely beautiful! What time we weren't out shopping, hiking, or whatever, we were on the covered porch, fighting over the air chairs. I don't think I could ever get tired of sitting on that porch! The house is in a great neighborhood yet, it was like we were in our own little world - very private. We got a bonus of getting to meet the owners. They were so great. We will definitely be going back. Loved it!
The view is amazing. We enjoyed taking a trip to Appalachian ski mountain to ice skate. Would recommend anyone with kids that goes during the winter months go and visit there. Grocery stores are close so we didn't have to worry about packing food to take with us. The house is huge and although it was just the two of us we loved it. We really are looking forward to having family vacations here and bringing more people with us next visit. Owners are more than helpful, anything you need they are available. We didn't have to reach out to them, but check in and out days they made great efforts to stay in contact and make sure that we did not need any help. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FIRE PLACE!!! Not many places have real fire places anymore and this made for great snuggle/reading evenings.
What an amazing extended holiday weekend for my family. We knew from the description that the views would be great, but this was exceptional. The home was simply perfect... from the fire pit to the hammock to the well equipped kitchen(as we cooked all of our meals there!) to the homey feeling throughout, we could not have asked for more. Kathy was a more than gracious host and was there from the beginning answering any questions we had and providing friendly assistance at all turns. We all enjoyed waking up to a beautiful snow fall on our first morning, and despite the cold temps, we all sat on the overlook porch in awe of this view and watching the snow come down for hours and hours. Beds were comfortable, house was warm, and fireplace was amazing. We made a fire every night indoors and outside in the fire pit, roasting marshmallows in the snow. What a treat if you get the opportunity to stay here. It is even more breathtaking in person, and we are so happy to have been a guest here. Thank you Kathy for a wonderful time. We will be back very soon!
What a View it is! This home was very clean and exactly how it is described per the listing. Very private but only minutes away from restaurants, grocery store, shopping, etc. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway. Our son enjoyed playing and watching movies upstairs in the loft area while my wife and I enjoyed sitting on the back porch taking in the mountain views. I would recommend this property!
This rustic mountain home has not only a wonderful view, but a great old-fashioned hearth whose fireplace is easy to warm up and provide a great fire to watch and be warmed by! Perched up on a ridge, minutes from downtown Blowing Rock and a supermarket, this great house is quiet and has all the amenities we needed for a great visit. The deck has plenty of room and a drop-dead view of mist-filled valleys and a glimpse of town. It's high enough up to miss the noise from below, but right down well maintained roads to the highway.
We slept with the screened windows open. Water-pressure was strong and the well water smelled, well, it had no smell which is great! The kitchen could use a few more cooking & eating utensiles, but otherwise we found everything that we needed. You might want to bring a 100watt bulb if you're in the big bedroom upstairs, because the lamps provided great subdued light, but it was difficult to read in bed - lighting in the living room was just fine.
Neighbors were friendly and streets were easy to walk on. It was a super location and the owner lived up to 100% of her claims and made both entry and exit easy. House was clean and we will be back!
Very comfortable and cosy. Lots of room. Great porch overlooking a beautiful valley. Convenient location to Boone, Blowing Rock and Parkway.
Would love to stay again.
High Peak Haven is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the much desired Laurel Hill Neighborhood, annually featured in the Blowing Rock 4th of July Parade! This neighborhood offers connection to people, but also much privacy on the wooded property.
