High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains House Rental Photos and Description

Peace And Comfort High On A Hill With 'Breathgiving' Views

Perched high in the hills you will feel like you truly have a birds eye view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From the comfort of the air chairs on the covered porch you look out over the surrounding trees and green rolling hills in the valley to the distant peaks of the blue-tinted mountains that give them their name.

There is just one step into the main level which features an open floor plan so the cook can converse with everyone from the kitchen to the dining and living rooms. Down the hall are 2 bedrooms - one with a full bed and the other with 2 twin beds - and a full bath between.

Upstairs is a large loft which has a queen sleeper sofa and more games and toys than a kid could hope for. The loft also has a half bath for convenience. There is a small TV with a video library of classic movies.

Downstairs is a game room with dart board and bumper pool, laundry room and the master suite with a queen bed and a nice walk in shower.

When you have filled your lungs with the fresh air and just can't relax anymore, there are so many activities waiting for you within a short drive...the house is located near mm288 just off the Blue Ridge Parkway between Boone and Blowing Rock...take a leisurely cruise on the Parkway in search of the perfect hiking trail, wade in the cool water of a Price Lake stream, take the 1 mile scenic (and flat) walk around Bass Lake then marvel at the high quality crafts at the Cone Manor. No trip to the highlands is complete without a drive to the top of Grandfather Mountain to traverse across the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Not much further down the road is Linville Caverns and Falls. And if you have the young ones with you, Tweetsie is a must...you can hear the whistle blow from the house! After fun filled days come home to the comfort of your retreat high on the hill.

The atmosphere and furnishings of this home exudes comfort. It is a cool reprieve from the heat of summer and it wraps you in warmth during the cool months. The high ceilings and beautiful wood wall paneling complete the picture perfect mountain home. We promise, you will never want to leave...but you can always come back again!

About Kathy Phillips

Bob is a native North Carolinian and Kathy transplanted from Pennsylvania long enough ago (1968) to claim NC as home. We live and work in Raleigh, but love all that this state has to offer. We escape in either direction - to the mountains and to the coast (check out our Ocracoke listing #481717) every chance we can, but with two kids to put through college it's not often enough. So, until the day when we are free to move about the country, we would like to share our home away from home with like minded folks who appreciate taking time to relax and rejuvenate.

Kathy Phillips purchased this house in 1998

Why Kathy Phillips chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Bob's family has a summer home on the same hill and he grew up coming here. So when this house became available we took the plunge. With two young children at the time, it may have been too early to think about retirement, but we always knew we would someday like to live in the mountains. What we got was a place our kids could be free to run out the door to play with the lifelong good friends they found on the hill.

What makes this house unique

Whether you are cozy on the couch, warming up around the fire pit, or swinging in the air chairs, you will enjoy a change of pace in these hills. Our place is one that gives people time to gain new perspectives and appreciate the nature around you.

Such a Beautiful View!

  • 5 of 5

Our family just enjoyed a great long week- end at High Peak Haven. We had a great time! The house was exactly as described, absolutely charming. There were six adults and we had everything we needed - plenty of room to spread out. The view from the covered porch was absolutely beautiful! What time we weren't out shopping, hiking, or whatever, we were on the covered porch, fighting over the air chairs. I don't think I could ever get tired of sitting on that porch! The house is in a great neighborhood yet, it was like we were in our own little world - very private. We got a bonus of getting to meet the owners. They were so great. We will definitely be going back. Loved it!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Jill. It was great to have the opportunity to meet you and your wonderful family. You are welcome to come back anytime! Do we need to add more air chairs?

WHAT A VIEW IS RIGHT ~ !!!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't find good enough reason to leave the back porch. It was a vast view of the mountains for as far as you wanted to see. Morning and evening each had its own special hint of beauty. The shadows roll across the Blue Ridge Mountains in a dance that kept us mesmerized. We can't wait to get back to the Aho Gap and enjoy the High Peak Haven.

The view is breathtaking

  • 5 of 5

As a big guy from South Carolina - I was reluctant to book a cabin with no AC in mid June. But the elevation and constant breeze kept the house cooler than my AC at home! My wife and I stayed 2 nights as we had an anniversary trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway. So conveniently located to the parkway and to Boone but so quiet and peaceful that we never left - just sat on the deck and enjoyed the view. The hammock chairs swayed with the breeze making it feel as if you were floating above the mountains. The sunsets and rises were better than any postcard. No picture can truly capture this view! It just begs you to sit back, drink a glass of wine and thank God for the beauty of His creation!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Roy. So glad you found my favorite spot in the airchairs as pleasant as I do! Please come again anytime you are visiting the area again.

Beautiful home, view, and neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay, despite the weather being rainy and foggy most of the time. The mist did part a bit on our last morning so we could see the view - beautiful. The house had everything we needed and Kathy was very responsive to our questions via email and phone. She also provided great written instructions about everything. My daugther and her friend loved having the downstairs with its own deck and gameroom to themselves, and my Dad and I had the upstairs to ourselves. He remarked that it was among the nicest houses he had even seen!

Absolute Perfect Mountain House

  • 5 of 5

This house and location is perfect! The views are breathtaking and the Blue Ridge Parkway is literally at the end of the street. The Fireplace and the back porch were our most favorite features while the kitchen was well equipped to cook our meals! We highly recommend this property for future Blowing Rock or Boone visitors! We have attached a picture below from the back porch:)
