Charming and characterful 3-bedroom apartment in the heart of London

Bedrooms 3
Space 100 m²
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

A perfect apartment for a holiday or business trip

Charming elegant and characterful 3-bedroom apartment in a beautiful, quiet and secure period building right in the centre of London, only 200 yards from Oxford Street and Soho. Only 30 yards from Charlotte Street, with its plethora of brilliant and varied restaurants, bars and pubs. Fully equipped eat-in kitchen, comfortable lounge with coal-effect gas fire. Access to a communal roof terrace with quality furniture for sunbathing and dining. The property has been our pied a terre for 16 years and was recently refurbished. It is located on the third floor, with lift access from the first floor approached by approximately 20 steps. We also own two other apartments in the same building (each sleeps 4), also available to rent (details on request).

Facilities include: WiFi broadband, 50' Panasonic plasma 3D HDTV, Blu-Ray/DVD player, iPod speakers, DAB radio, Bosch washer-dryer, Bosch dishwasher, range cooker and microwave, large fridge-freezer, bath with overhead shower, books and films galore, baby cot and high chair available.

Our intention is to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible; and memorable, too. There are cheaper apartments around, but none where you will feel more at home, surrounded by top-quality furnishings, every appliance and a thousand personal touches. This is 5-star self-catering accommodation.

With regard to your stay, we try to think of everything: feather and down duvets and pillows, because they’re the softest and the nicest (yet man-made available for allergy-sufferers); feather and down mattress toppers, to make comfy beds just … even more comfy; we do not use energy-saving lightbulbs or even LED, just warm tungsten and halogen, because it’s so much warmer and more natural; there is entertainment in the form of books and DVDs/Blu-rays scattered around, that have been thought about (England/London-focussed); ornaments and pictures create an atmosphere, so all these have been considered, to help settle, amuse, enlighten and enhance your stay; no supermarket ‘basic’ or ‘essential’ items are supplied, but just what works best (like Andrex); towels are 100% cotton and plump; bedding is 100% cotton and mostly from John Lewis (you’d be stretched to find a man-made fibre in the apartment); floors are real wood or real wood laminate; there are always rugs; there is always plentiful hot water; heating is always efficient; kitchen equipment is extensive; cutlery and crockery is elegant; and there is nothing that might aesthetically offend.

The owner is a British and Hollywood film producer. The property has been the home of many celebrities, including actor Sir David Jason OBE and BBC TV presenter Kirsty Wark. Best-selling books and award-winning film scores have been scribed here.

STOP PRESS: Fitzrovia hailed as "The best place to live in London" by The Sunday Times, April 2016.

The apartment is a 2-minute walk to Goodge Street tube/metro/underground station and 3 minutes to both Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus stations.

However, London is best explored on foot, providing of course that you're starting from the right location, and there is no better vantage point than this apartment. Here are the walking distances to places you might like to visit during your stay (in minutes, on foot):

Oxford Street (2)

Soho (5)

Regent Street (6)

Covent Garden (8)

British Museum (9)

Harley Street (9)

National Gallery (10)

Leicester Square (10)

Bond Street (10)

Theatre District/Shaftesbury Avenue (10)

Regents Park (10)

National Portrait Gallery (10)

Trafalgar Square (13)

British Library (16)

Madame Tussauds (17)

Hyde Park (17)

Downing Street (18)

Whitehall (18)

Big Ben (21)

Buckingham Palace (22)

Westminster Abbey (22)

London Eye (23)

London Zoo (26)

St Pauls Cathedral (29)

The Royal Albert Hall (37)

Natural History Museum (41)

Tower of London (46)

There inevitably may exist accommodation that is cheaper, yet further afield, but when you add-in taxi/bus/underground charges to and fro, such alternatives can prove a false economy.

We had a fantastic time in London and at Lancaster Court, and it definitely won´t be the last time that we stay there, if I have any say in the matter! For one thing: the location is perfect! Very central with plenty of good shops, pubs and restaurants close by. Easy access to public transport - both buses and the tube. We were met by Mark, who could not have been more friendly or helpful. Had even bought a pint of milk for us, so we could have a cup of tea! Flat was very clean and tidy, beds were good, with lovely linen and excellent duvet and pillows. Was impressed with DVD selection and also a nice selection of books. We liked the fact that tea, coffee, washing up liquid and the like were available on the understanding that you fill up as needed. It’s a great idea! The flat really felt like a proper home, and not a standard rental flat. Easy to feel comfortable and at home there. Rie Carlsen

Thanks so much for everything that helped make our stay at Lancaster Court one of the most pleasant we have ever had in the UK. From the Christmas Tree to the many thoughtful features. The apartment continually surprised us. Plainly you know what travellers need. I could not have been happier. And meeting Paul was a real pleasure. So thanks. We would love to come back. Richard Harman, NZ

Our stay in your home was simply perfect ! The welcome so kind and complete at our arrival, ideal facilities, so comfortable, admirable pieces of furniture and class in each detail. It will be our choice for our futures stays in London, for sure. Jean-Luc, Isabelle, Mathilde et Martin Reider

We had a great stay in London, and we very much enjoyed the apartment. It was very cozy and convenient, it had everything we needed and Paul was very nice - it was nice to know that someone was close by should there be a problem. The location was perfect for us. I will definitely recommend Lancaster Court to others looking to rent a flat in London. Sigrun Espe

Just to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lancaster Court, the location was excellent and the apartment was a perfect base. It had more equipment than I have at home. Paul greeted us and gave an excellent explanation of everything we needed to know. My sons were very happy to have wifi available. It was like a home from home. Erika Gittins

Thank you very much for letting us stay in your lovely house at Lancaster Court! Everything was perfect and we had lovely time in London. We enjoyed the high standard in the house - everything, from bedding sheets, plates, cutlery, towels etc was of high quality. The books in many languages and DVD's in the library, the furniture, the kitchen, the different bedrooms, the whole style in the house. You have kept the old character and charm of the house, combined with modern facilities, everything was beautiful! We will absolutely return to Lancaster Court in our future visits in London - this is a promise! Vessela Lakselvhaug and family

We all had a lovely time at Lancaster Court! Your apartment was amazing: the best I've seen. We had all we needed. The location was perfect! Paul was very helpful as well. Jennifer Shauger

We had a really nice weekend. Your apartment is splendid in every single way. Loved the furniture, the well-equipped kitchen, the large TV, London brochures. We were well received by Mark and I could communicate with him easily by phone or sms (he brought us tablets for the dishwasher on demand!). I hope to book this apartment again when I am going to London and I will recommend it to friends and relatives. Anne-Marie van het Erve

At Home in London

  • 5 of 5

This review is late (we stayed here in May 2016)! We loved the flat in London. We vacationed with our 3 adult kids and the apartment was our home while in London. Jonathan was very easy to deal with and so helpful. It was our first time in London (except for hubby who used to travel here for biz). I loved getting up in the morning and opening the windows. drinking tea and listening to the sounds of the city. As other reviews have said, the flat is a convenient location to everything. Walkable to tourist sites, near the tube , and catching a cab at the corner is easy. It is well equipped. We only had breakfasts in, but everything is there if you want to cook dinners. The 3 bedrooms were great. The bunks were a bit short for my 6"1" son, but after negotiation with his sister, a trade ensued and all were happy! We enjoyed the movies during downtime and enjoyed the rooftop deck our first day there. The apt was spotless and the period details added to the atmosphere. The only suggestion is perhaps a fan for the bunk was unseasonably warm when we were there and the inside windows did not provide much of a breeze. We had a perfectly lovely time and would certainly stay again when back in London. Thank you for sharing your home.

Perfect London flat for short family visit!

  • 5 of 5

This flat was perfectly located and equipped. Jonathan and his caretaker Sreto were great to deal with. The apartment is charming and clean with comfortable beds and modern appliances. It is in a chill neighborhood near nice restaurants, the British museum and great shopping. Our kids 10, 13, and 15 felt very at easer and appreciated the enormous collection of DVDs for our downtime.

Absolutely perfect London Accomodation

  • 5 of 5

We used this apartment when my mom, dad, sister and brother came for their first visit to England. We couldn't have been happier or more impressed! It is central to absolutely everything. We walked many of the main attractions, including our West End Show at Geilgud Theatre in Soho. It's just a couple of hundred yards off Oxford street. By tube, you rarely have to travel more than 2-3 stops to get to all of the main attractions. Paul and Dagmar (housekeepers) were brilliant and went out of our way to accommodate our needs. The flat itself is lovely and stocked with everything you might have forgotten. There was a new bottle of milk and cold drinks in the fridge, earbuds and hairgrips (bobby pins) in the bathroom, and printer, printer paper and ink at the desk in the sitting room. Truly, we didn't lack for anything. The price of two night stay for the 6 of us was cheaper than hotel rooms would have cost, and we were able to cook meals, relax together in the evening, and enjoy the delightful shops and local restaurants both on our street and just around the corner. We're looking for an excuse to come back!

Loved it here!

  • 5 of 5

The most important consideration for my family is proximity to attractions and entertainment, and this adorable apartment ticks both boxes. We were easily able to explore all morning, have lunch locally (there are a billion quality restaurants), head back and have a rest, and then head out and explore again. We could do the same in the evening, since everything is effectively on your doorstep. Also loved the period charm and the character (felt very much like being properly 'in' London and living like a Londoner). Most comfortable and pleasant. We've already booked to return.

Could Not Be Faulted. Blissful Experience.

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is just so wonderful (we've stayed here before, but forgot to review): you couldn't get a better location for exploring London on foot (and if too tired, you just pop back and rest and head out again); so very characterful and charming and home-from-home like (we settled in immediately both times, and returning felt like were coming back to our own second-home); the kids slept beautifully, as did we, in the peaceful bedrooms; plenty of space for the kids to do their own things and loads of DVDs for them to watch and books to read (all age ranges); totally fully-equipped kitchen, so we generally ate out at the wide, wide choice of restaurants on the doorstep, and then cooked in both breakfast and dinner; the roof terrace is great for letting off steam and gazing at the London skyline with a bottle of vino; and the owners and housekeeper could not have bee more friendly and welcoming. Honestly, couldn't fault it and it's rare you find somewhere that's, well ... perfect. Perfect for us, at least (and we're picky!). Staying at this apartment is so, so much better than a sterile and soulless hotel, much cheaper, too (great value-for-money) and ... just way more comfortable and nicer. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in London. Peter Williams & Family

Great location, cosy apartment

  • 4 of 5

Booked this property for a girls get together - 4 of us, so we used all 3 bedrooms.

Positives were the great location for shopping and eateries, its quirkiness and original features, well equipped kitchen, cleanliness and value for money compared to a hotel.

Negatives would be, an extra sofa would be handy especially if there is 6 of you, (there is 1 armchair and a 3 seater sofa), only one of the rooms had a wardrobe, the road noise in the front bedroom is a quite bad and the website is misleading in that the perception is that the roof terrace is part of the apartment, it's communal and not easy to get to.

Owner's Response: We are so, so pleased that all our guests enjoy a lovely stay at our apartment in very central London and we do go out of our way to ensure that your time here is thoroughly enjoyable. We especially appreciate that Sue and guests very much liked the location, which can't beaten for proximity to entertainment, restaurants and shopping, and also that the accommodation is considered to be excellent value. With regard to seating, there are plenty of chairs around the apartment that can easily be transferred into the lounge, but we don't want to clutter if not required by all. Although there is what most people consider to be an attractive and vibrant London hubbub towards the front of the property only, it's mostly during the day, and the street is a one-way route and the apartment is on the third floor. For total serenity, both the Master and third bedroom face the silent inner lightwell. Unfeasible as it may be to provide a large wardrobe in every bedroom, there's hanging space in each and beautiful antique furniture to accommodate all else. And although the roof terrace is communal (as stated in the description), hardly anyone ever uses it, and although it's not adjoining (which isn't claimed) it is easily accessed via two flights of stairs (both with lifts/elevators), so we trust that's not considered too much of a challenge.
