Our intention is to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible; and memorable, too. There are cheaper apartments around, but none where you will feel more at home, surrounded by top-quality furnishings, every appliance and a thousand personal touches. This is 5-star self-catering accommodation.
With regard to your stay, we try to think of everything: Brita water filters, because London’s water is recycled and has, apparently, passed through 8 people before it reaches you (and we don’t quite know which 8 people); feather and down duvets and pillows, because they’re the softest and the nicest (yet man-made available for allergy-sufferers); feather and down mattress toppers, to make comfy beds just … even more comfy; we do not use energy-saving lightbulbs or even LED, just warm tungsten and halogen, because it’s so much warmer and more natural; there is entertainment in the form of books and DVDs/Blu-rays scattered around, that have been thought about (England/London-focussed); ornaments and pictures create an atmosphere, so all these have been considered, to help settle, amuse, enlighten and enhance your stay; no supermarket ‘basic’ or ‘essential’ items are supplied, but just what works best (like Andrex); towels are 100% cotton and plump; bedding is 100% cotton and mostly from John Lewis (you’d be stretched to find a man-made fibre in the apartment); floors are real wood or real wood laminate; there are always rugs; there is always plentiful hot water; heating is always efficient; kitchen equipment is extensive; cutlery and crockery is elegant; and there is nothing that might aesthetically offend.
The owner is a British and Hollywood film producer. The property has been the home of many celebrities, including actor Sir David Jason OBE and BBC TV presenter Kirsty Wark. Best-selling books and award-winning film scores have been scribed here.
STOP PRESS: Fitzrovia hailed as "The best place to live in London" by The Sunday Times, April 2016.
The apartment is a 2-minute walk to Goodge Street tube/metro/underground station and 3 minutes to both Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus stations.
However, London is best explored on foot, providing of course that you're starting from the right location, and there is no better vantage point than this apartment. Here are the walking distances to places you might like to visit during your stay (in minutes, on foot):
Oxford Street (2)
Regent Street (6)
Covent Garden (8)
British Museum (9)
Harley Street (9)
National Gallery (10)
Leicester Square (10)
Bond Street (10)
Theatre District/Shaftesbury Avenue (10)
Regents Park (10)
National Portrait Gallery (10)
Trafalgar Square (13)
British Library (16)
Madame Tussauds (17)
Hyde Park (17)
Downing Street (18)
Big Ben (21)
Buckingham Palace (22)
Westminster Abbey (22)
London Eye (23)
London Zoo (26)
St Pauls Cathedral (29)
The Royal Albert Hall (37)
Natural History Museum (41)
Tower of London (46)
There inevitably may exist accommodation that is cheaper, yet further afield, but when you add-in taxi/bus/underground charges to and fro, such alternatives can prove a false economy.
OUR RENTAL GUESTS’ COMMENTS:
We had a fantastic time in London and at Lancaster Court, and it definitely won´t be the last time that we stay there, if I have any say in the matter! For one thing: the location is perfect! Very central with plenty of good shops, pubs and restaurants close by. Easy access to public transport - both buses and the tube. We were met by Mark, who could not have been more friendly or helpful. Had even bought a pint of milk for us, so we could have a cup of tea! Flat was very clean and tidy, beds were good, with lovely linen and excellent duvet and pillows. Was impressed with DVD selection and also a nice selection of books. We liked the fact that tea, coffee, washing up liquid and the like were available on the understanding that you fill up as needed. It’s a great idea! The flat really felt like a proper home, and not a standard rental flat. Easy to feel comfortable and at home there. Rie Carlsen
Thanks so much for everything that helped make our stay at Lancaster Court one of the most pleasant we have ever had in the UK. From the Christmas Tree to the many thoughtful features. The apartment continually surprised us. Plainly you know what travellers need. I could not have been happier. And meeting Paul was a real pleasure. So thanks. We would love to come back. Richard Harman, NZ
Our stay in your home was simply perfect ! The welcome so kind and complete at our arrival, ideal facilities, so comfortable, admirable pieces of furniture and class in each detail. It will be our choice for our futures stays in London, for sure. Jean-Luc, Isabelle, Mathilde et Martin Reider
We had a great stay in London, and we very much enjoyed the apartment. It was very cozy and convenient, it had everything we needed and Paul was very nice - it was nice to know that someone was close by should there be a problem. The location was perfect for us. I will definitely recommend Lancaster Court to others looking to rent a flat in London. Sigrun Espe
Just to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lancaster Court, the location was excellent and the apartment was a perfect base. It had more equipment than I have at home. Paul greeted us and gave an excellent explanation of everything we needed to know. My sons were very happy to have wifi available. It was like a home from home. Erika Gittins
Thank you very much for letting us stay in your lovely house at Lancaster Court! Everything was perfect and we had lovely time in London. We enjoyed the high standard in the house - everything, from bedding sheets, plates, cutlery, towels etc was of high quality. The books in many languages and DVD's in the library, the furniture, the kitchen, the different bedrooms, the whole style in the house. You have kept the old character and charm of the house, combined with modern facilities, everything was beautiful! We will absolutely return to Lancaster Court in our future visits in London - this is a promise! Vessela Lakselvhaug and family
We all had a lovely time at Lancaster Court! Your apartment was amazing: the best I've seen. We had all we needed. The location was perfect! Paul was very helpful as well. Jennifer Shauger
We had a really nice weekend. Your apartment is splendid in every single way. Loved the furniture, the well-equipped kitchen, the large TV, London brochures. We were well received by Mark and I could communicate with him easily by phone or sms (he brought us tablets for the dishwasher on demand!). I hope to book this apartment again when I am going to London and I will recommend it to friends and relatives. Anne-Marie van het Erve

We spent a fantastic holiday in your property, it was sort of perfect! We have been travelling to London quite often, but never stayed in a place like yours: close to all facilities and very, very quiet at night. Hartmut Fleig
We had a fabulous weekend at Lancaster Court, thank you. We thought the apartment was delightful and in such a great location. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to have a mini-break in the centre of town. Catherine Cartwright
We used this apartment when my mom, dad, sister and brother came for their first visit to England. We couldn't have been happier or more impressed! It is central to absolutely everything. We walked many of the main attractions, including our West End Show at Geilgud Theatre in Soho. It's just a couple of hundred yards off Oxford street. By tube, you rarely have to travel more than 2-3 stops to get to all of the main attractions. Paul and Dagmar (housekeepers) were brilliant and went out of our way to accommodate our needs. The flat itself is lovely and stocked with everything you might have forgotten. There was a new bottle of milk and cold drinks in the fridge, earbuds and hairgrips (bobby pins) in the bathroom, and printer, printer paper and ink at the desk in the sitting room. Truly, we didn't lack for anything. The price of two night stay for the 6 of us was cheaper than hotel rooms would have cost, and we were able to cook meals, relax together in the evening, and enjoy the delightful shops and local restaurants both on our street and just around the corner. We're looking for an excuse to come back!
The most important consideration for my family is proximity to attractions and entertainment, and this adorable apartment ticks both boxes. We were easily able to explore all morning, have lunch locally (there are a billion quality restaurants), head back and have a rest, and then head out and explore again. We could do the same in the evening, since everything is effectively on your doorstep. Also loved the period charm and the character (felt very much like being properly 'in' London and living like a Londoner). Most comfortable and pleasant. We've already booked to return.
This apartment is just so wonderful (we've stayed here before, but forgot to review): you couldn't get a better location for exploring London on foot (and if too tired, you just pop back and rest and head out again); so very characterful and charming and home-from-home like (we settled in immediately both times, and returning felt like were coming back to our own second-home); the kids slept beautifully, as did we, in the peaceful bedrooms; plenty of space for the kids to do their own things and loads of DVDs for them to watch and books to read (all age ranges); totally fully-equipped kitchen, so we generally ate out at the wide, wide choice of restaurants on the doorstep, and then cooked in both breakfast and dinner; the roof terrace is great for letting off steam and gazing at the London skyline with a bottle of vino; and the owners and housekeeper could not have bee more friendly and welcoming. Honestly, couldn't fault it and it's rare you find somewhere that's, well ... perfect. Perfect for us, at least (and we're picky!). Staying at this apartment is so, so much better than a sterile and soulless hotel, much cheaper, too (great value-for-money) and ... just way more comfortable and nicer. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in London. Peter Williams & Family
Booked this property for a girls get together - 4 of us, so we used all 3 bedrooms.
Positives were the great location for shopping and eateries, its quirkiness and original features, well equipped kitchen, cleanliness and value for money compared to a hotel.
Negatives would be, an extra sofa would be handy especially if there is 6 of you, (there is 1 armchair and a 3 seater sofa), only one of the rooms had a wardrobe, the road noise in the front bedroom is a quite bad and the website is misleading in that the perception is that the roof terrace is part of the apartment, it's communal and not easy to get to.
We had a lovely time at Lancaster Court. The rooms are smaller than they appear in photos (except the front bedroom), but very comfortable for our group of five (two adults, two teens, and my elderly father). Very clean, well-maintained and equipped -- appreciated small touches like the large, varied selection of DVDs (kids loved the Monty Python) and the odds and ends in the cabinets -- the needle and thread came in handy! Made several meals in as my father preferred that to eating out -- and the kitchen had everything we needed -- but there are excellent restaurant and pub options nearby (as well as grocers). Easy access to the tube and busses, short walk to the British Museum, and picking up a cab just out front couldn't have been simpler. Really appreciated housekeeper Paul's friendly welcome after our transatlantic flight.
This apartment is well located - we used public transport each day and/or walk to lots of attractions. Oxford St is very close for shopping. Paul the housekeeper was fantastic and very friendly. The apartment is lovely and well equipped. The only complaint we had was about the noise level in the front bedroom from the street. There is a bar at the corner of the street. Some doible glazing would helpf. Otherwise an enjoyable stay.
The apartment is situated in the heart of London, only 200 yards from Oxford Street and Soho.
Equidistant from the tube/underground stations of Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus. A 5-minute taxi ride from Euston, Kings Cross and St Pancras.
