The Cottage is a beautifully decorated French Country bungalow located on 7.5 acres of a privately owned compound. Miles of Lake Michigan sand is simply steps away through a walk of the stunning gardens. Just up a few stairs you will find yourself on the shores of Lake Michigan. Visitors often remark that it is as vast and magnificent as any ocean. It truly earns its place among the Great Lakes. Beach chairs and sand toys are available for a relaxing day of play in the sand.
The property is home to 4 acres of wooded hiking trails through your own secluded cedar forest. No matter the season the adventure of exploring the woods is a highlight for visitors.
In the Spring, Summer and Fall, the fabulous outdoor grill is available for your cooking pleasure with plenty of outdoor seating. Inside the cottage, a coffee maker, mini fridge and toaster allow the conveniences of any hotel - but with luxury, views and comfort that is unsurpassed.
Located north of Milwaukee and just 15 minutes south of historic Kohler, there is plenty to do for those looking to stay busy. However, if you are looking to do absolutely nothing in a luxurious private setting than The Cottage is where you need to be.
As a romantic getaway, a charming stay for a girls weekend, or a family with children The Cottage at Casa del Lago is an ideal home away from home.
The alternate name for Casa del Lago is The Sanctuary, with good reason. This is a property like none other. The smell of cedar, the wind in the trees, the lapping and/or roar of the waves, with the morning birds, will transform your body and mind during your stay.
We're pretty sure your first time visiting The Cottage at Casa del Lago will not be your last... Come and find out for yourself!
When my husband decided that he wanted to look for a lake house, I was skeptical and hesitant. With two young children at the time and plenty of property maintenance with our home in Chicago, I couldn't imagine taking on another burden.
We had looked in Indiana and Michigan to no avail, but when a friend invited us to Kohler for a visit - we decided to look at some homes along the Lake on our way to their place.
I could hardly contain myself when walking the grounds with the realtor - it was more than we could have ever imagined. As I told my husband then, do not waste another minute looking elsewhere, this was the place.
You will undoubtedly understand why when you come. Casa del Lago has been a blessing to our family not a burden and one we are thankful to be able to share with you.
You won't leave the same as you arrived. It is impossible to walk the property, breath in the cedar scented air and hear the constant lapping of the lake and not be changed. You will sleep deeper, feel calmer and find that that the evasive answers to your questions are answered in the space that can only be described as a sanctuary.
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Casa de Lago. The gardens are beautiful and the beach was very private and fantastic. George is very accommodating and the cottage on the grounds is impeccably maintained. We look forward to renting the cottage again!
Our family of five, Mom, Dad and 3 sons (10 yo, 3 yo and 18 months) spent a week at this beautiful cottage in July and everyone had a blast. The place was well kept and exceeded our expectations; from the towels, kitchenware, extra blankets, movies, books, board games, games for the PS2 and Keurig everything was thought out. The boys enjoyed playing on the beach, building sandcastles, roasting marshmallow's at the fire pit, walking the trails and playing basketball on the court. Sheybogan and Port Washington were a short drive and had plenty of places to eat and things to do as well. The owners were at the main house during the weekend of our stay but it didn't take away from the seclusion of our stay one bit, they we very welcoming and gracious hosts. I would recommend this location to anyone looking to stay on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.
We spent a week in this lovely cottage so that we could attend a wedding at the nearby American Club in Kohler. It was a great decision not to stay in the hotel.
We had everything we needed in the cottage which, on our arrival, was very clean with some thoughtful extras left for us like coffee and tea etc. The big plus, however, was the beach. Everything you would ever need is left in the shed! If we had brought the grandchildren they would have had a whale of a time.
There are some local shops and a good supermarket at Oostberg which is just 10 minutes in the car.
Because we were tied up with the wedding we did not make the most of the lovely walks around the property or visits to the little town of Sheboygan but we would be happy to return and we would recommend the property to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.
Casa Del Lago was the perfect charming little cottage for a getaway weekend for my husband and I. The accommodations were very comfortable, and we enjoyed our stay. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchenette had a small mini fridge and microwave, which was enough for us for the weekend, but without a dishwasher and oven/stove-top, would not be sufficient to stay longer especially since restaurants are limited in the immediate area. It is driving distance (20-40 minutes) to Sheboygan and Milwaukee though. The listing description is fairly accurate although we were surprised that the grill area is on the owner's property versus being a separate space for the guests. We would have liked to have been a bit more secluded from the owners' house but we never really saw them. The firepit on the beach was very nice. Stocked Keurig machine and assorted K-cups was also a plus! We had some trouble with the WiFi and very slow connection, but this ended up forcing us to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings. Overall we were very happy with our stay.
Lake Michigan is in its splendor at the Sanctuary in Oostburg.
This cottage is not truly a two-bedroom; there are sleeping quarters in the entertainment room by way of two chairs-and-a-half and the bathroom access is actually in this room. So, this would not be a suitable rental for two couples, as you must go into the entertainment room to get to the bathroom.
The grounds are beautiful; we talked with the woman who has been tending the gardens for 40 years. Every place you looked, the plantings were gorgeous.
Though the property is private, the cottage is located on the grounds of the main house. During our stay, the owner and his family and friends were also there. There is no mention of the main house and other guests possibly being there and sharing in the amenities in the overview of the property. The location, the grounds and the lake are beautiful but this is not a private setting.
My husband and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary at the Cottage at Casa del Lago. The grounds were beautiful, the Cottage was immaculately kept and the beach setting was perfect for our weekend getaway. Great place to relax and unwind.
Casa del Lago is the perfect location for any traveler. If you are looking simply for a little cottage in the woods for some private time for yourself or loved ones, you will be refreshed and rested from your stay. For those looking to golf, shop or pamper themselves with all that Kohler has to offer, Casa del Lago is the ideal place to return to after a day out. If Milwaukee's museums, cultural attractions, etc. are what draws you to the dairy state - the cottage at Casa del Lago provides a cozy resting place after a long day of sightseeing.
Just south in Cedar Grove - there is wine tasting and charming shops.
Downtown Sheboygan and the lakefront offers wonderful dining and local attractions.
