A week in autumn
The villa was excellent. Cool as well as warm and airy with lovely views across the private park.
The owners are lovely warm people who couldn't do enough to make our stay a good one. They were always available but never obtrusive. Their hospitality was 110%. They treated us as friends not clients.
The nearby town, Padova, is charming and genuinely friendly - and in a certain way very cosmopolitan The surrounding country is great to explore and full of character. Also Venice and Verona are at a short distance from the Villa.
Local food was relatively inexpensive and in our experience always good. The local supermarkets have good supplies of most things anyone might need and the major large ones are not too far away. The area is not only beautiful but also peaceful and encouraged us to relax (which is what we needed).
We have only one major regret - that we were able to stay for only a short time - next time we come (and we will) it will be for at least 2 weeks. We would certainly recommend this charming villa and we look forward to returning.
Thank you so very much for staying with us. Your appreciation was our commitment to try and excel in providing a special place to enjoy a great holiday. We thank you for leaving your precious hints and the perfect description of the area in our in house guestbook for future guests, who will benefit from your valued suggestions. We are glad you spent an unforgettable holiday and hope to see you again in Veneto.
Depandance SEP 2008
This is a romantic place for people that respect an old house and accept that it´s not full of perfect luxury (for example the living room furniture was a bit scruffy and we would have liked having more spoons, forks and knives for 4 persons).
The discription of the house was accurate (most of the photos represent the main house, though). The kitchen machines and the washing machine worked alright and were a good plus.
The owners are VERY nice and helpful and the outside pool is well maintained. The pool is reached by a path about 150 m long with old statues and a swan lake alongside. There are also many other birds to be seen, which is nice.
We also appreciated that we had bicycles "at our service". Venice and Vicenza are located about 40 km from here so it is easy to visit them by car or train (the train station is 7 km away). The distance to the nearest bus stop is 300 m. In Padova we loved for example Prato della Valle but there are so many other attractions in this city full of history that we´d like to come back some day - and back to Villa Mandriola, too!
Thank you! It was really a pleasure to host you all in our Dependance. We are glad that you really appreciate the very special and romantic atmosphere of our house.
As regard the "negative point", I can assure that we are going to change the living room furniture with something more charming very soon (Nov 2008) and as well the chicken are will be renovated with a more modern and staffed one..
We are constantly trying to do our best in order to keep always such an atmosphere and the maximum of efficiency and comforts in our property. We will wait for you next visit.. Best wishes from Italy!!
Villa Mandriola Owner
Beautiful 16th century villa, in need of some TLC
This villa is beautiful, bursting to the seams with the history of the family who own it and of Italy more broadly. There was ample room for our three families of four - we were able to allocate a bathroom and two bedrooms to each family. The grounds of the home are fantastic and our children loved exploring and playing in the various parts of the grounds. They especially loved rowing the boat on the small lake. We didn't use the dining room, it just felt a bit too grand for us (mostly because we thought our children may make too much mess) and was not the right space for only 6 adults. If you are a bigger group of adults, though, it would be fantastic for a more formal dinner. The kitchen was much larger than it looked in the photos and the kitchen table would easily fit 10 people around it for a cosy meal, and we managed to squeeze 12 for the meals we had "at home". The family who own the villa are lovely. We were given a tour and information on arrival by Nicko, one of the sons. Our kids played with boys of the house (the children of another son) the two oldest of which were around their age and spoke fluent English.
Just around the corner from the villa is a fantastic pizzeria, a little shop with great cheeses etc, a prix supermarket for a broader range of products, there is also a cafe/bar and fully automated laundromat less than 10 minutes walk away (near the bus stop). The bus ride to Padova takes about 30 minutes, which is a beautiful city.
We really enjoyed staying in this villa, however there are some improvements needed. Some doors need new hardware (our daughter got stuck in the bathroom because the handle fell off), some beds need new mattresses, globes need to be replaced in some light fittings, the amenities in the kitchen need to be reviewed to ensure all the basics are privided (eg, it needs a chopping board) and some of the chairs need re-upholstering. Overall though, the experience of staying in a villa of this magnificence was worth the minor inconveniences of being in a building that is 500 years old.
Herzlichen Dank!
A totally relaxing week
I travelled with 10 other members of my family across Europe this summer, spending one week at Villa Mandriola. It is stunning ! A beautiful villa with lots and lots of space... no cramping with 11 of us there.... room for more infact!
The house had great facilities and everything you needed in a kitchen to be self sufficient. The pool (above-ground ) was magnificent and BIG, loads of sun loungers, space and shade in areas if you wanted it.... A quiet and beautiful location with shops and services a short drive away made it the perfect place for us all to have fun, relax and laugh.
No near neighbours meant we could totally relax without worrying that we would disturb anyone else with all our children. Also I love the fact that at Villa Mandriola everyone can escape – from the demands of computers and phones, from traffic and noise – to a simpler life where you can read, play games with your children, eat pizza or eat amazing local food and local salad al fresco with your family or a group of friends in the cool of the evening.
The owners of Villa Mandriola are fantastic to deal with and I will certainly be going back again. Absolutely NO negatives about this villa... go and enjoy a truly glorious location and classic venetian villa.
Superb - didn't stay long enough
Beautiful Villa in a secluded, secure location, fabulous rooms, and delicious food you will not want to leave. I went with a group of friends for a week. We were greeted by Nicolo' who gave us a tour of the Villa and the private park and made us feel welcome immediately. The rooms have a great layout, comfortable beds, all the amenities and plenty of tourist information.
A place where time passes you by. Can't wait to bring my family in this charming villa in Veneto.
The city of St Anthony and home to Italy’s second-oldest university, Padua (Padova to the locals) is also the site of one of the most remarkable works of late Gothic art (prefiguring the Renaissance) in Northern Italy. Just 30km west of Venice, this dynamic town, with its arcaded streets and fetching medieval centre is the ideal location to start exploring the Veneto region without having to bear the stress of being in Venice. Wander bustling markets in the old town centre, admire Giotto’s masterpiece of painting here and contemplate St Anthony’s Basilica. Amongst the major attractions in Padua is the Scrovegni Chapel with fresco by Giotto, the Basilica di Sat Anthony and the Botanical Gardens. Southwest of the ancient university town of Padua you find yourself immersed in lush vineyards. This is the scenic wine region of the Eugenean Hills (Colli Euganei to the locals). The Natural Park is characterized by its steep, almost triangular volcanic hills, its medieval hamlets and monasteries (many still inhabited by Benedictine monks) and by its unspoiled landscapes here you will be able to try the many delicious al-fresco trattorias (restaurants), adventure yourself in the natural park either by car, cycling or horse riding.
