I'm from the Pensacola area of Florida but have greatly enjoyed living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1999. I'm a musician and have been in touring bands for almost 20 years. I'm also an artist of mixed media. I have a great love of nature, fitness and holistic living.
Kelly Nelson purchased this house in 2013
As a nature lover and avid hiker, I was drawn to Glen Ellen for it's numerous state parks and cycling opportunities. Awe inspiring natural surroundings took my breath away and had me coming back to the area time and time again. When I decided to look for a vacation home, privacy was on the top of my priority list. I said yes as soon as I walked into the house in 2013. The house was perfect with an uninhabited forest on one side, a sloping hill behind us and a nice, tall fence separating our property from a friendly neighbor, Jim. I also fell in love with the quaint, near by town of Sonoma for it's diverse culinary offerings, lovely town square, artisan craft stores and wine tasting opportunities.
Waking up to the early morning sound of song birds and ravens while wandering outside with a steaming cup of hot coffee only to find a mother deer and her fawn gazing up at me calmly was one experience out of many that made me fall in love with this place.
Enjoying the intense greenery of the forest playing off the dappled light on our deck while lounging in a rocking chair watching the sun fade to brilliant hues of red and gold with a glass of pinot noir was another.
Leaning out over our balcony in the pitch blackness of night (no street lights!) as crickets came to life under cover of darkness in a cacophony of song while gazing up at incredibly clear stars so bright and shining was yet one more.
Our stay at the Oak Haven was wonderful! The house was very spacious and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The setting is so peaceful and relaxing, with the view of the lovely oak trees in the day light and being cozy by the fire place by night. The location was close to wineries and restaurants by car, we found our self's wanting to cook and get to enjoy the house, the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make a nice meal. The hot tub was the cherry on top, I had an extra soak in the morning with my tea, perfect. I would definitely recommend this wonderful home to anyone looking to "get away" with out having to go very far. It very much is a haven amongst the oaks!
Highly recommended! The Oak Haven is an absolutely wonderful house in Glen Ellen, Sonoma County. The house felt very clean and well organized, and comes with a comprehensive house manual. The bedrooms were all very nice and cosy, the kitchen was well-equipped and clean, with microwave and a large fridge, and the hot tub was amazing. The place itself is easily accessible by car, and parking was super easy in the driveway. We found some very nice hiking trails in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, very close the house, too. Many thanks to the excellent host!
We found what we were looking for - a great, cosy and clean Home away from Home in the heart of Sonoma County! We recommend this location to anyone that is looking for a relaxing time out!
There were a couple of issues when we first got there but they were taken care of. There is no air-conditioner in the middle room which was a little concerned to the couple staying in that room. With fans I think they did OK, but an air-conditioner would be beneficial in that room especially if the door is closed. We had bedroom doors closed for privacy.
Enjoyed the hot tub almost every evening and some mornings, too! Wonderful location. Well equipped kitchen. Well maintained. Kelly was very responsive and left clear instructions for everything. Will definitely be back!
This was a great house in a nice location! We had a nice time and the dogs were happy too! The one downside would be the "dog run" which was a cage run on concrete. I was picturing a fence in side yard but maybe I didn't look at the advertised photos hard enough.
There is so much to do so close by! The following is a list of places 5-15 minutes from the house.
Sugar Loaf State Park,
Jack London State Park (historic buildings and grave), Sonoma County Regional State Park,
Quarry Hill Botanical Gardens,
Annadel State Park.
Kunde Estate Winery,
Benziger Family Winery,
Chateau St Jean,
Imagery Estate Winery.
