My boyfriend and I came here for a week in August and had a great time! The lake house has a gorgeous view that you can enjoy from the screened porch (no bugs!). The area is very quiet and peaceful, which we appreciated since we wanted to get away from all the noise in NYC. The house comes with just about everything you could need to cook, freshen u,p and relax. We especially liked being able to grill every night :) We took full advantage of the canoe and paddle boat (there's also a row boat), as well as the raft. We even got a great view of the meteor showers while we enjoyed a campfire on the shore.
The community is lovely and there's plenty to do within a short distance. We went hiking on the Tully Lake Trail (about 4 miles), visited Wachusett Brewery (about a half hour drive away), went to a local antique shop/barn, and ate at some great restaurants (SS Lobster and The Old Mill). We could have easily found things to do for another week.
Ray and Susan were wonderful and answered all our questions. They were on hand right next door but never invaded our privacy. They also gave us great recommendations for places to visit around town.
Overall, this was a wonderful trip and I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking to get away from it all.
This cottage is a great place for 4 people (adults and/or children) to really relax and enjoy a great vacation. Our family has used this cottage on many different occassions over the last 50 years. The owners have done a great job in maintaining the "camp' atmosphere while updating with modern amenities where possible. Guaranteed you will want to be a repeat customer after enjoying the cottage!
The photographs don't do justice to this gorgeous cabin, full of retro furniture and period pieces, it feels like a step back in time. Beautifully clean and comfortable, with everything you need, including a decently kitted out kitchen unlike so many rentals. The covered deck has a splendid view and keeps the whole space mosquito free. The area is very peaceful. And I was amazed how warm the lake was! The cottage is part of a friendly lakeside community and Ray and Susan are on hand next door should anything go wrong.
My wife and I along with our two young grandchildren spent a wonderful week here. The kids got to swim and play. They also had their fun private room in the loft. The cabin is much roomier then the pictures show. It has an open floor plan which is further enhanced by a wrap around porch that attaches on two sides of the cabin. The beach is private and there was a canoe as well as a boat provided. There is also a dock that the kids enjoyed and my son got to fish from. Also the view is quite nice from the screened in porch.
Ray (owner) was quite nice. When I asked him what I should do if the grill runs out of gas, he said "No problem, just call me and I'll bring over another one and change it". I mean like WOW, how's that for being neighborly. If circumstances permit we shall book in 2015 for sure. Thank you Ray and Sue, it was quite a fun time for us.
Three of us came here for a quick weekend trip from New York City for a bachelor party. We didn't have much of a plan, but the beautiful towns of Athol and Orange has lots to offer, and the lake house has choice proximity to all kinds of things.
The lake is listed as a pond, but I'm not sure why, because this sucker is DEEP and CLEAN. The owner has a small floating dock that we used for very bachelor-esque things such as manly cannon balls and football tosses.
The kitchen is completely stocked. The beds are comfortable. The shower was very warm, but we only took one shower at the end of the trip, because we are really macho guys. The owner has an awesome row boat that we took out late in the evening for some full moon howling! The wrap-around screened-in porch is a nice bonus, and a working grill and fireplace round out the experience. This house is an authentic vestige of an old lakefront community. Beautiful rustic wood floors and walls, and the furniture and decor is full of charm and function. It's like going back to the 40's!
The towns of Athol and Orange have awesome ice cream and hot dog stands, antique shops, old downtowns, and there even is a drive-in movie theater 20 minutes north, just over the New Hampshire border. A lot of parks and nature preserves are just miles away. Hiking, swimming, boating, you name it. But don't forget you are staying on a private lake, 30 feet away.
Finally, the owners were very open and inviting. Very sweet people. They answered all my questions. The house was very clean, the transaction very smooth, and we can't wait to go back.
The Lakeside Waterfront Cottage was perfect for a week with our grandchildren Isabel (4) and Jonah (11 months).
Everything you need is there. The children could play safe on the covered deck. They also had fun on the beach and our granddaughter loved to swim and go with the paddle boat and row boat. From the screened porch we had a great view over the lake.
We had a great time and we hope to come back another time.
Thanks Raymond for your hospitality.
