RIGHT ON THE OCEAN: This stunning two bedroom, two bath + loft oceanfront home sits right on the bluff above Pirate’s Cove in picturesque Trinidad. Fully furnished house includes a full kitchen, washer and dryer, wifi, cable and flat panel plasma TV. The master bedroom features a California King bed. Bedroom #2 has a queen (Captain’s) bed. The loft has a queen bed and a full sized bed along with a ‘periscope skylight dome’ for star gazing and ocean viewing.

A TRUE "OCEANFRONT" SITE: Oceanfront, oceanfront, oceanfront! Only about 20% of listings that advertise "oceanfront", "beachfront" or "beachhome" are really oceanfront. Most are anywhere from one city block to one mile back from the ocean and typically have public streets, Native American land or public land between the homes and the ocean. Be sure to ask the owners to guarantee that it really is oceanfront in Trinidad. Also, if there truly is a private beach there should be a private access trail - not a public trail that is shared by the community at large.

VERY WELL APPOINTED including such amenities as Harney & Sons tea, Keurig and Peets coffee, Aveda shampoo & conditioner, laundry detergent, firewood, his and hers Egyptian cotton bathrobes, etc. Lever handles throughout. Old growth redwood floors in the bedrooms and master bathroom. Redwood dining room table. Campfire pit right on the bluff.

SECLUDED YET CLOSE: This is not in a neighborhood or on a main street but in a private 10 acre oceanfront estate with gated access. It is on quiet, historic Stagecoach road. Yet it’s only 1/2 mile to the top-rated Larrupin restaurant and 2 miles to the center of Trinidad with restaurants, art galleries, shopping, day spa & massage. We have a long, private driveway so the Chalet is nearly 600' in from the road and is completely hidden from the road.

There is none of the Casino traffic and freeway noise that Scenic and Patricks Point drive have.

IN THE HEART OF REDWOOD COUNTRY: Centrally located with redwood parks to the north and south (less than 4 miles from Patrick’s Point State Park). 15 minutes to Arcata (ACV) airport. Ten minutes to the Trinidad Cher-Ae Heights casino which features minor acts such as Starship, Everclear, Tony Orlando and Skid Row.

WHALE WATCHING options exist from the house, deck, bluff and beach. They can be seen on a regular basis (most frequent Dec - May). Nearby sea lions can be heard (and sometimes smelled!) Seals, river otters and a variety of other wildlife abound.

A PLACE TO MAKE MEMORIES. Weather you're a couple looking for a romantic getaway or a family looking for a spectacular retreat, the Oceanfront Chalet has it all.

The loft has been painted with a unique ‘infinity perspective’. In reality, the room is only about 8′ wide x 25′ long, but the illusion makes the room appear to continue forever (see photo). This is the kind of effect usually done in a Disneyland or museum type setting and this may be the first time it has been done in a private residence. There is also a window at the far end of the room, but it is concealed as part of the illusion.

Guests have access to the entire home, minus one closet in which we store extra supplies. Guests have complete privacy inside this house as YOU ARE RENTING THE ENTIRE HOME. There are no other floors, rooms or sectioned off areas rented out to other parties.

Wild blackberries, huckleberries, and salmon berries abound on the property. Huckleberries can be plucked while in the hot tub. Wild mint grows on the south side of the Chalet. This home has a tankless instant hot water heater that will supply unlimited hot water.

All bedrooms and living areas (except the loft) are on the first floor.

Owner operated. Owners are on site and can provide free airport transfers from ACV.

No pets and no smoking anywhere on the premises.

No owner/property manager added admin/booking fees.

Beach access notes: There is a 140 yard trail to the beach. The last 40 feet is steep and challenging and may be unsuitable for some. Small children will have to be carried.

About Mike & Debbie Wood

We are an active couple in our fifties. Mike has an aviation background and Debbie has a medical background. Debbie is also a Doterra Wellness Advocate.

After looking all over, we decided Trinidad was the best place in the world to live. The ocean views can't be beat. Trinidad is always cool and has world class views. It's small and uncrowded with no traffic, yet just big enough to have a grocery store and restaurants. And there's an airport only 15 minutes away. So, after vacationing here for ten years we decided to retire here. We moved to Trinidad in 2010 and in 2012 we purchased an oceanfront property with a guest house.

The Oceanfront Chalet is family owned and managed. The owners are on site in the adjacent house to the south. Basically we are there for you if you need us, otherwise we keep to ourselves.

Why Mike & Debbie Wood chose North Coast California

This is located on historic Stagecoach Rd. Stagecoach road which only has private estates that are 5 - 10 acres in size. It is not on a main road and there are no subdivisions. There is no freeway noise. So it is usually very quiet (other than the ocean noise) and does not have the packed in neighbors that the town has. Our 10 acres estate has awesome, panoramic ocean views along with the constant roar of the ocean. Our private drive has gated access and the Chalet is about 600 feet in from Stagecoach road (and completely hidden from the road).

Great host, awesome place, wonder views.

Went for a girls trip with my mom and 2 friends.

Host Debbie and Mike are nice laid back people with attention to detail. Thay provided us little presents around the house and even mailed me back a changer i had left there.

I enjoyed the adventurous journey down to their private beach and was rewarded by a steller panoramic view.

Dont miss seeing the giant redwoods, wine tasting, marine lab and the clam chowder.

So relaxing! Fun features for the whole family

We loved this place so much! The view was truly amazing. We had so much fun collecting agate, looking at starfish, and visiting the nearby redwood parks. My boys loved that loft and there were so many convenient, hospitable touches. We were so sad to leave!!!

Charming

The view was simply stunning!

We are from San Diego and decided to stay at the Ocean Front Chalet to see the Redwoods (1 hour north) .

The ocean view in front of the house was simply stunning! The place was very clean. The information the owner provided us about the area

was excellent. My kids had a great time barbecuing marshmallow and picking on the wild berries. We have stayed at many VRBOs but what also left a good impression in us was Mike's hospitality and his willingness to make our stay

comfortable. We will surely come back to this place when we are in the area.

Fantastic seaside location

Beautiful location in Trinidad on a section of private seashore. The house was modest and comfortable and the hosts were very pleasant, with a welcome wine package and tips on whale spotting. Be aware the trail down to the beach is treacherous and not for the faint of heart or those with fear of heights. If you can get down to the beach, it's gorgeous and private. If you can't the views from the bluff are fabulous. The owners house is much closer than the pictures lead you to believe but they are very pleasant. I would stay here again, can't beat the location!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! You were wonderful guests and we hope to have you out again. We do advertise the 140 yard trail as steep and challenging, although children as young as three have gone down it. While some guests have described the trail as steep steps, this is the first time anyone has mentioned a fear of heights. For guests not up to hiking down our trail, we do provide information on drive-up beaches that are less than five minutes away.

Charming house and great hosts

Our family of five loved our stay at Oceanfront Chalet. From the fully equpped kitchen, to the books and games, the binoculars, the chocolates, and the luxurious soaps, Mike and Debbie have thought of everything to make the place as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The kids liked sleeping in the loft that was painted in fun stripes and had a "Harry Potter" attic. The large washer and dryer was very convenient. The king size bed in the master bedroom was comfortable. This house is not a luxurious accommodation, but the gracious hosts have provided everything a family would want and more (not to mention the views)! for a beach vacation. We will be back.

Local attractions: Within a short drive, you have access to many scenic attractions including Trinidad Head Trail, the HSU Marine Lab, Agate Beach, Redwood National Park, Prairie Creek State Park and Fern Canyon with its herds of Roosevelt elk.

Other activities include: exploring Humboldt State University and Arcata, Old Town Eureka and the Eureka Waterfront, the Victorian Village of Ferndale, and the College of the Redwoods. Charter boats are available for fishing, sightseeing and whale watching excursions (there is good whale watching directly from the house). Trinidad harbor also offers excellent kayaking. The Trinity, Klamath, Eel and Mad Rivers offer world class trout, steelhead and salmon fishing as well as river rafting and kayaking.

Excellent restaurants abound in Trinidad, Arcata, and Eureka. Our personal favorites include The Larrupin Cafe, Seascape, Alice's and The Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe. For surfers, Trinidad beaches are the preferred location in Humboldt county. In winter, Horse mountain provides access for cross country skiing and snow fun less than an hour away.

Wine tasting can be found at Bergeron Winery & Moonstone Crossing winery in downtown Trinidad. Tide pooling, Bird Watching, Marine Mammals, Art Galleries, Gift Shops, Trinidad Museum, Sailing, Windsurfing, Camping, Horseback Riding, Cher-Ae Heights Casino, Fishing, Crabbing, Clamming, Beach combing, Cycling, Rock Climbing, Swimming and Agate Hunting are other activities to choose from. For golfers, there are two courses within a 30 minute radius.

If the reservation is cancelled 60 or more days prior to arrival, you will receive a full refund of any funds paid minus a cancellation fee of $50. If the reservation is cancelled within 60 days prior to arrival, the full rent paid will be forfeited unless the unit is re-rented.

The Chalet and premises are only rented to the people listed in the rental agreement. Additional people beyond those listed in the rental agreement that are brought onto the property will be charged a fee of $25 per person per day for day use or $35 per person per day for those staying over night, so long as they are declared prior to arrival. This includes visitors, stoppers-by, drivers-thru, friends, etc. You must call or text the owners prior to bringing additional persons on site. Undeclared persons brought onto the property will be charged a fee of $50 per person per day.


Local regulations and our insurance company require us to have a signed rental agreement in place prior to renting to anyone. We will email you a copy of the rental agreement. After you've had a chance to fill it out and sign it, please scan and send it back. After we have received the signed rental agreement, your reservation is confirmed. Approximately sixty days prior to arrival, you will receive a fifteen page "trip planning" email with your personal door code, detailed directions and comprehensive information on the Chalet and the area.

About once a month the propane truck comes by all properties in Trinidad to refill propane tanks. This takes about 20 minutes. Owners are in the large house to the southwest of the Chalet and can provide free airport transfers, show you where to find berries, answer questions about the area or address any other concerns you may have.
