We were high school sweethearts and married soon after graduation. The rental suite was actually our first apartment. We have enjoyed living on the farm ever since and it was a great place to raise our 3 children, all of whom are now married.
The farm's lineage has been traced to a deed signed in 1750 and we're passionate about the family farm as an integral part of the fabric of our nation. We really see ourselves as stewards. We have such a connection to the farmland, and that in turn translates into a God connection. We value where the land came from. There's no more being created, and we value it as a treasure. We have a responsibility to it.
As a family-owned and operated business, the Miller Homestead, up until 2012, was a dairy farm. We continue to raise heifers for a neighbor and grow corn, hay, soybeans and barley.
We enjoy traveling and often stay in vacation rentals in out of the way places. Many times through the years we have hosted out of town relatives and friends in our home and love to share in their lives. When the apartment was vacated, we decided it was the right time in our lives to make it available to travelers.
The Miller Homestead is located within easy highway access to Lancaster, York, Harrisburg or Philadelphia, providing many options for day trips. Children can enjoy playing in a large yard or watching the farmer at work. The owner is a Licensed Massage Therapist for those seeking the benefits of a therapeutic massage. Please contact owner prior to arriving to check availability.
Quiet location yet easy access to stores and attractions. Close to bicycle and walking trails. Queen sized bed with Sleep Number air mattress. Farm pond available for 'catch and release' fishing. Hang wash on an Amish wash line. One mile farm lane available for off road walks.
Your cozy apartment was the perfect place for my birthday celebration with our daughter. Your kitchen had everything we needed to cook up a fine early Thanksgiving feast. Your farm is beautiful and we enjoyed meeting the goats, cows, and horses (and the great blue heron who seems to be a regular at the pond). We spent our weekend exploring the many antique shops in the area, and embracing the Amish country. My husband, who grew up on a dairy farm, was in heaven and practically refused to leave. The only regret we have is that we did not get to meet the both of you to thank you in person. We hope to have that opportunity during another visit in the future. (My husband wishes to inquire about long term rentals!) Please leave instruction as to what to do with the trash and recyclables. In your absence, we felt very guilty leaving it there. Thank you for everything. We highly recommend your apartment for anyone wanting a peaceful get away.
My wife and I found this place while searching for a honeymoon spot close to where we were getting married. We chose this one and after our stay, we didn't regret our decision one bit! Fantastic property, wonderful farm and family, and close to Elizabethtown, which is a very nice town to hang out in. We loved waking up and seeing the horses outside our window; it was wonderful. We genuinely hope to vacation here again!
My husband and I really enjoyed staying in Mim & Clair's farmhouse apartment. It was very clean, comfortable, and modern. It had every convenience we needed including maps and resources to help us figure out what we wanted to do in the local area. We loved being on the farm - walking past the goats, cows, and horses; watching beans and corn being harvested, seeing the historic barn, etc. I especially enjoyed meeting Mim and Clair, such wonderful people!
While in the area we visited George's Furniture in Marietta and toured the workshop where the furniture is made. Then we went horseback riding at Nookside Stables. After that we headed north toward Mt Gretna and hiked to the observation tower in the Park at Governor Dick. We climbed up the tower and enjoyed the magnificent view. Our first day ended with a nice dinner at TJ Rockwell's. The main activity for day 2 was a bike ride along the Northwest Lancaster River Trail. We rode from Columbia to a point just south of Falmouth. The trail was great up to that point but near Falmouth it is not yet completed and it was too rough to continue safely so we headed back to Columbia, completing about 20 miles round trip. After the bike ride we visited the National Clock and Watch Museum in Columbia. All of these activities were just wonderful.
If I could change one thing about our visit... I wouldn't change anything
My 13-year old son had a travel baseball tournament scheduled for the first weekend in October at Elizabethtown High; however, it was cancelled due to rain. We booked this beautiful place a week prior to the tournament not only because this farm looked so peaceful, but also because it was only one mile from Elizabethtown High. Furthermore, the cost for a two-night stay including a full living room with a pull-out couch, kitchen, dining area, and seriously comfy bed beat every hotel I researched. Even though the tournament was cancelled, we still had a fantastic time! My son fished in the onsite pond, and we met all the goats, cows, and little Gabe, the miniature horse. We went to Folklore to get coffee the first morning as this was recommended by Mim Miller. It was delightful! We took in a movie and ate at Good Burito, also a great place downtown recommended by Mim. I highly suggest staying here as we were able to relax in a superb little apartment suite for four and take in the scenery of the Lancaster Valley.
The Miller Homestead is the perfect place to stay for visiting in the Hershey, Lancaster, Harrisburg area. This was our second visit to the Millers. This compact apartment is immaculate with a full kitchen, really comfortable bed, nice bath and laundry and the property is located on a farm but it is just a short distance from the ELizabethtown square, grocery stores and shopping. The hosts are so kind and welcoming and it is very peaceful and quiet you will not believe you are so close to other area attractions. We have stayed in several VRBO rentals across the country and this one is our favorite. We will be back when next we come into this area and highly recommend to a couple or a couple with one or two children.
Clair and Mim are the sweetest people. We were welcomed in the morning and greeted on the porch.. I had knee surgery and had said I was a little sore and Mim brought me the most lovely-smelling lavender ice wrap. She gave us a little walk through in the barn by the goats (they are so cute!) and showed us the corn they were peeling. I am from the city, so all this was so interesting to me. It was nice that she took the time to show us around and help me with my knee.
Our stay was lovely. The room was cute and we used the pull out couch and the bedroom. I brought an air mattress, so we used that as well for three of us. There were a few things in the fridge for us (how thoughtful!!) and oh my gosh.. home-made soap!! There were just so many kind and thoughtful touches to this visit.
The place and room we were provided with was great for a nice little get away with a couple of my friends. It was my 40th bday and I was so glad we chose to spend it here!!! Mim and Clair are a couple of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met. We would love to stay here again!!!
