Oostburg Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Inviting all-season, two-bedroom, one bath Lake-Michigan cottage.

(Don't sweat it, we have central air conditioning on the main level and a split-type unit in the loft for greater control and efficiency.)

Reached by private road, this year-round lake cottage is set back on a secluded 150 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline. Your lakefront hideaway, nestled in the pines, is a front-row, sea-level seat to the lake’s temperaments and sounds. Winter, spring, summer, and autumn are all great times to enjoy the Cottage, each season offering a different perspective of the lake and the surrounding area. Low off-season rates are offered.

This versatile vacation home boasts bay-windows overlooking grand Lake Michigan in the living area and the master bedroom, and two large, newly installed dormer windows with a stunning view of the lake in the upstairs. Fireplaces in the master bedroom and the living room make this a glowing and warm getaway for winter and the miles of beach make it ideal for summer outings! Central air ensures your comfort whatever the summer weather.

A comfortable king-size bed resides in the master bedroom and a large vanity area houses closets and mirrors. The spacious living area not only offers the amenities of lakeside living, but the amenities of technology as well. A large flat-screen HDTV with cable as well as 20mbsp internet connection is available; Wifi is accessible throughout the house and all the way to the beach.

A fully-equipped kitchenette is host to a solarium dining area to its south. A beach-view patio with grill area offers a fantastic view of the lake – from stunning sunrises to tranquil evenings.

The surrounding area hosts an abundance of activities, seasonal and year-round, including five-star golf facilities, a water park, numerous restaurants, John Michael Kohler Art Center, theater, shopping, Farmers’ Market and so much more. About Louise Robson

While I was born in Dallas, Texas, I grew up from the age of four down the highway from the Cottage in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, where my parents own a horse farm. My father taught at Random Lake High School for nearly forty years, so I was exposed to farm work and academia throughout my entire youth. I attended college at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and then Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, earning undergraduate degrees at both. Currently I am a charter pilot for a private aircraft management company in Hong Kong. For the past eight years, I have made the Hong Kong/Macau area my home, but I still come back to Wisconsin to visit my family and friends at least two times a year.

Louise Robson purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Louise Robson chose Southern Wisconsin

My youth and many vacations were spent up the lake from this Cottage at my grandparents lake house. It was at their lake house that I came to love Lake Michigan and the experience of that quiet and peaceful living.

I had been looking to buy a home that had the same feeling as my grandparents home. On the lake, of course, but also something that was obviously taken care of and loved by a family who grew up there and spent countless memories visiting, just as I had during my life.

The location was a big factor also. If you travel up and down Lake Michigan you will not find the same beaches. The sand in this area of the lake is amazing. Soft and delicate but not dusty. We used to call it 'squeaky sand' growing up because if you quickly drag your feet in the hot sand it will squeak with each step.

Also, since I grew up in the area I know all there is to offer and that makes it much easier to provide the best experience for those who come here to visit.

What makes this cottage unique

Living on the lake is unique. And while I have invested in adding the technology that has become the norm in our world, there is still a feeling of a simpler time when walking around the property. It was built in the 1940s, along with many of the surrounding properties. It has a history which shows its character and provides a unique insight to how life was on the lake 60 years ago. The joys of living on this lake are big – from its intimacy to its power. Come and enjoy this lake Cottage and find out your reasons.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This home and location were absolutely perfect. Louise was so wonderful and accommodating. The loft was a perfect spot for the kids and for the insanely beautiful sunrises. There were many little extras in the house that made it an easy trip. Louise has thought of everything! :)

The beach was clean and so peaceful and we were able to bring our dog on his first vacation ever with us. He loved it! I can't say enough good things about this place, we can't wait to return! It was truly relaxing and much needed. Oostburg is a great place to visit, and so close to Chicago. I wish we were still there! Thank you Louise for everything!

Wonderful Relaxing Trip!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful trip! The cottage was so cute and quaint and had the best views of the lake. It was such a relaxing weekend getaway, i wish we could have stayed longer! They had everything we needed and more, the owners were so accommodating and very helpful when I emailed questions before the trip. The cottage was in a great location too, we were able to drive up to Sheboygan and Kohler to do some sightseeing and it was only about a 20 minute drive. I would definitely recommend this cabin and will be returning whenever we get a chance!

Comfortable. Refreshing. Quiet. Exactly what the doctor ordered.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a few nights and the cottage was exactly what we were expecting. Just steps away from Lake Michigan, we enjoyed bonfires on the beach at night, took long walks along the shore and had plenty of time to just relax. The owners were incredibly accommodating and even provided us with snacks and a beverage of choice. We highly recommend this cottage for the perfect getaway!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay! This very thoughtful guest actually took the fantastic photo that now headlines our VRBO page - the two chairs and glasses with a bottle of wine overlooking the lake. She graciously sent that photo and some others to add to the collage. Thank you so much - come back soon!

Idyllic Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful family vacation at this home. Everything we needed (and more) was provided inside, and outside we had a full supply of chairs, water toys, towels, etc. We enjoyed the outdoor dining table for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The grill made cooking a breeze. The view and location are incredible and very private. Having everything at hand truly made it an easy time, especially for mom! Would highly recommend this charming home.

Perfect vacation retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has everything a vacationer could want. The furniture is comfy, the media center is more upscale than you would normally find in a rental, all kinds of toys and games and beach stuff is provided, a gas and charcoal grill, as well as a full kitchen and linen closet. You really do only need to pack your personal possessions. The beach is lovely or you can sit in the backyard under a tree and watch the lake for hours. The owner even provides beverages and a goody basket. There are 3 state parks nearby for anyone who wants to hike. Sheboygan is nearby for those who want a more urban experience. All in all, this was the best rental we have experienced and the most relaxing trip we have had in ages. Too bad the house was rented for the next week, because we did not want to leave! Thanks Trapper and Louise.

Owner's Response: Thank you guys for being such wonderful guests and allowing me to crash your vacation to fix the beach! This couple was a lot of fun to talk with and knew how to take advantage of all the relaxing benefits of the local area as well as the Cottage. I look forward to seeing them again soon. I should also thank them for saving the new beach furniture from the encroaching lake surf! The fire pit has been relocated to a slightly dryer location recently.

THE COTTAGE is located less than three miles off highway 43 but has the feeling of a deep woods cabin. The drive in from the highway is farmland and forests of cedar, pine, and beech trees, offering the perfect buffer for complete relaxation. The Cottage is accessed by an unpaved, private drive. Neighboring properties are nestled quietly between the trees.

THE BEACH in this area of Lake Michigan is known for its soft sand and large expanse. The lake breezes keep the temperature consistent and cool compared to inland.

BESIDES OUR WORLD-RENOWED GOLF COURSES of Whistling Straights, Blackwolf Run, and The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, this area has many summertime festivals and local annual events.

SUMMERFEST, is the world's largest music festival, held annually in late June and early July, just a 45 minute drive away in Milwaukee.

ROAD AMERICA in Elkhart Lake (an easy 30-minute drive) hosts a number of events throughout the year.

CIVIL WAR WEEK-END is an annual event in nearby Greenbush that brings the history of the American Civil War to life. Held the last weekend in September, Civil War Weekend is two action-filled days of battle re-enactments, military drills, medical care situations, period music and food, demonstrations, and more. The weekend spectacle involves more than 500 re-enactors. And each year features a different historic scenario crucial to the outcome of the war.

OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND! Sailing classes, bicycle riding, snow shoeing (seasonal, of course), horseback riding (weather permitting) kayak rentals, jet ski rental, basketball, volleyball on and off the beach, golfing, parks and playgrounds...there is something for everyone. We can even find you a personal yoga instructor to perform a private class on the beach...just ask us in advance for availability!

Beyond sports we can steer you to wine tours, sailing events, sports events such as the Brewers or Green Bay Packers games, hot air balloon rides and almost everything else you can think of! There is even a great local airport where you could take an introduction flight and experience controlling an aircraft yourself.

Many activities can be set up quickly but it is very helpful if you let us know what you would like to do and we can find tickets or reservations in advance to make your vacation as smooth as possible.

Of course, if tranquility and relaxation are your purpose then feel comforted knowing the Cottage is set up for just that. Outdoor furniture on the back patio offers a shaded beach view. The grilling area is perfect for a slow cookout of your favorite meal while enjoying the beach views. The beds are soft and warm. During the winter months you are invited to enjoy the fireplace to complete the cottage ambiance.

For leisure time indoors there is a selection of board games for both kids and adults. The HD TV offers HD cable and a premium selection of channels, including HBO. There is a 20mbps internet connection which should take care of the entire family's needs. At the moment there is no video game console hooked up but you are more than welcome to bring you console from home.

Let us know what you're interested in and we'll help make it happen!
