Wilmington House Rental Photos and Description

4 - 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom secluded home

The Wilmington Wilderness House is now for sale and we are only taking reservations from approved potential buyers, and from renters who are looking for a reservation within the next two months.

The Wilmington Wilderness House is our personal home. When we moved to Colorado, we didn't have the heart to sell it. We decided to open it to others who will love our home as we do and who want to experience the beauty of the Adirondacks in a very private setting. It is a great place to stay while you enjoy all that the area has to offer.

****A note to potential winter will need a four wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway in the winter.**** We keep the driveway plowed, but it is winding and there is a section that is a bit on the steep side...a little too tricky for non-4 wheel drive vehicles.

Outside: There is a brook that borders the property and a walking trail that runs alongside it. Open the windows to hear the brook babbling all year round. Cross the brook to access the Cooper Kiln Trail from our back yard where you can hike or snowshoe to the Pond. The house is located on 5 acres of land, which is mostly wooded and cannot be seen from the road. Enjoy the peace and quiet of total seclusion. It's one of the things we love so much about the property. Sit in the Adirondack chairs around the fire pit for a feeling of camping. Or, hang out on the back deck listening to the brook. The 2 stall garage is available to you throughout your stay (no electricity in the garage).

Inside: Most people come to the area to enjoy the outdoor activities it offers. However, the weather doesn't always cooperate. When the snow isn't good, or if the rain ruins your plans, there is much to do in the house. Wireless internet is included. We have chosen not to have a TV. However, we do have a movie room in the basement with a huge VHS movie library for your enjoyment. The playroom includes a bench full of toys for your little ones and a ping pong table for everyone. In the basement is a shelf full of puzzles, and board games for all ages. Or, feel free to borrow a book from our library loft and sit in a quiet room to read. The house does not have central air. There are air conditioners in three of the bedrooms (not one in the basement bedroom) and in the dining room/living room area to cool you down on a hot summer night. Sit in the jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom and look out the window to see the Jay Mountain Range. Or, head up to the 'bouldering loft' where you can practice your bouldering skills.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms: The house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. On the main floor of the house are two bedrooms. One bedroom includes two sets of bunk beds and the other has a queen log bed with a tempurpedic mattress. There is one bathroom on the main floor. The master suite is located on the second floor of the house. There is a king sized log bed with a tempurpedic mattress. The master bathroom is huge and has a jacuzzi tub. The forth bedroom is in the basement and has a queen bed. Attached to this bedroom is a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower.

Kitchen: The kitchen is stocked with everything you need including spices, paper products, dishes, silverware, etc. It includes a dishwasher, microwave, and gas stove/oven.

Living Room/Dining Room: The house offers an open floor plan. The dining room and living room can be rearranged so the dining room table can be expanded to seat 12 people. Or, it can be made cozy for 4.

Other: The laundry room has high efficiency washing machine and dryer for your use. Make a fire in the fireplace in the winter to sit by and relax after a long day of outdoor activities.

Pets: Dogs are more than welcome in our home. We have two large breed dogs who travel everywhere with us. We do our best to keep the house clean, but be prepared that you may find dog hair around the house. We also have two kennels for your dogs permanently set up in the area between the living room and dining room, which are hidden when not in use.

About Bonnie Parent

We moved to Wilmington in 2008 after living in Colorado. Although we loved Colorado, we wanted to be in the Northeast to be closer to family. The only place that we found that fit into our lifestyle was the Adirondacks. We love to travel. Now, we spend our time between Colorado and Wilmington. Instead of having the house sit empty when we are away, we decided to open it for others to enjoy. We have rented homes all over the country and it seemed like a good way to allow us to travel and still have our house taken care of.

Bonnie Parent purchased this house in 2008

Why Bonnie Parent chose Whiteface Mountain

When we decided on the area, we looked for a long time before purchasing this property. We love the quiet that is provided by this house. The brook is a special feature. And, the house is surrounded by 60,000 acres of State land. So, we know that it will always be as secluded as it is today.

Great summertime fun

  • 5 of 5

Once again we had a great time at Wilderness House. It's spacious, modern and adjacent to hiking trails. We hiked out the back door and up to Cooper Kiln Pond. We also mountain biked part of the trail from the trailhead on a different day. The house is set back from the road for maximum privacy. We barbecued & made a fire in the fire pit. The kids didn't want to leave. I highly recommend the Wilderness House & look forward to staying here for ski season.

Beautiful mountain home

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the best family vacations ever. The property and amenities lived up to the description. The location is great for day trips or just hanging out on the premises. There was something for everyone to do i.e. fire pit, hammock, great kitchen, stream, hiking, and reading in the hammock we brought. Murphy, my black lab, had a great time and has slept most of the last 3 days to recover. Thanks Bonnie...we will be sure to come back!!

Dream Home and Whiteface Wedding

  • 5 of 5

The owners of the Wilmington Wilderness House (WWH) graciously allowed me to hold my wedding in their backyard. I rented the house for my close relatives and stayed for my honeymoon. I married the love of my life on top of Whiteface Mountain, which is 10 minutes away. The house itself is gorgeous; the pictures do not do it justice! We had a beautiful white tent in the yard, and between the house, property, and nature, my wedding photos are spectacular! The owners of WWH are very responsive, caring, and timely. Any of my concerns or questions, they addressed promptly via email. The house sleeps 10 and accommodates multiple places to park cars. There is ample room about the property to walk and explore, including a creek and nature trails. The house, has a stunning large kitchen and tables to accommodate a large family dinner. If you are looking to "get away" and disconnect from technology, here provides a secluded oasis for relaxation, yet close enough to many amenities if your looking to go out to eat or shop. My husband and I could not have had a better Adirondack wedding and honeymoon! Thank you very much WWH owners!!!!! :)

Must stay here

  • 5 of 5

Excellent place for a ski weekend away with a large group. Only six miles to whiteface. This house is much nicer then what is captured in the pictures and is much larger then expected. Very clean and well decorated. The kitchen was perfectly stocked. We didn't need to buy spices, ketchup, olive oil ect. We had great meals and we're all able to sit and eat together because the table is large enough for 12. Sectionals in the living room were great to accomadate a few nights of sitting around the fireplace with friends relaxing. The outside fire pit is wonderful with the brook in back. Master suite is a suite. Internet is terrible and understand there was no other option but I am glad no cable. Time away from the news and TV to cherish the mountains and friends is priceless. Thank u for opening your home to us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and for choosing our property for your vacation. I wish there was more we could do about the internet. It is a common complaint as it is so slow, and even slower when several devices are connected at once. We continue to work with our internet provider to get the best internet service we can. Great to hear that everything else worked out so well and that your time was so well spent with friends. We hope you will come back to visit us again.

My friends and I stayed for a long ski weekend. The house was very clean, comfortable and we were close to Whiteface Mountain (about 10 min). Bonnie and Amberly keep this place top notch and were very responsive. However, one of two things should be done.

1) Upgrading the WiFi. It's very poor and a few guests sharing one network just makes it worse.

2) Cable or satellite TV added.

Just small suggestions ... We still had plenty of fun and we would visit again.

Owner's Response: So happy to hear you enjoyed the house and will come back. We realize the Internet is an issue. We have worked with the Internet company (we have only one option for Internet so are stuck with them) to try to make it faster and more reliable with little success. We have talked often about cable and/or satellite and decided not to have either. We see the house as a way for friends and family to spend time together. Not having cable allows people to not feel the pressure of having the TV on or off since its not an option. We have chosen to have the very large VHS collection instead. Again, thank you for the review and for your comments and suggestions. We always appreciate hearing from our guests about things to change/improve. We look forward to your return.

Wilmington, NY is located a short 15 miles from Lake Placid. The drive to Lake Placid is an amazingly beautiful drive. In the winter, take the short drive to Lake Placid to ride on the bobsled track or take an elevator ride to the top of the ski jumps. Or, stay in Wilmington where there is plenty to do. Wilmington has a great town beach located on Lake Everest where you can swim, play beach volleyball, rent canoes and kayaks, grill on the charcoal grills, and play on the playground. There are mountain biking trails at the Flume and a fun swimming hole. The area is full of outdoor activities including rock climbing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, golf, and fishing. Fish the famous Ausable River or ski/snowboard down Whiteface Mountain. For family fun, choose The North Pole amusement park, the CandyMan chocolate store, or play miniature golf at the North Pole resort. Or, take the drive up Whiteface Memorial Highway for views that will not be forgotten.
