Indian River Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom including finished loft for sleeping, 1 Bathroom, East Side Burt Lake

Quintessential Up North Cottage Living awaits you, along with brilliant sunsets and stunning views. You will discover Burt Lake is one of Northern Michigan's largest and pristine inland lakes. You will stay in our charming cottage on the East shore of Burt Lake. You will have a wonderful vacation on 70 feet of private water frontage as gentle breezes from the West caress the shoreline.

Our Burt Lake Cottage is Clean and completely smoke-free. It comes with a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a 2-seat island bar for eating and preparing meals and a 4 place table for eating in the sunroom overlooking the lake. The two bedrooms downstairs feature log beds with one queen pillow top mattress and one full mattress. The finished loft has 2 single beds. There is also a queen pull-out sofa in the living room.

You have your choice of spending time in the shady hammock, or sunning/tanning yourself on the attached patio or deck out by the lake.

You may bring your own boat and use our mooring buoy. Two kayaks are available for guest use. Daily/weekly boat and jet ski rentals are available at various local establishments.

We have a great location for power boating, kayaking, swimming, sailing, wind-surfing, paddleboarding, and fishing. Nearby trails are nice for hiking and mountain-biking. Dozens of golf courses are in the area. The nearest is just 2 miles away.

Note: Post Labor Day weekend, we have reduced our minimum stay to 2 days to allow Late Summer Weekenders and People seeking the wonderful Fall Colors the ability to rent for a 2 or 3 day weekend. Late Summer and Fall are a beautiful time to be Up North. The lake is a little quieter and the fall colors are beautiful. It is a great time to travel down the 'Tunnel of Trees' just North of Harbor Springs on (M-119) and have a nice meal at Historic Legs Inn and Restaurant in Cross Village.

Just "okay"

  • 3 of 5

There is some really good stuff about this place and some NOT so good stuff.

The owner is wonderful to work with. The cabin was completely furnished with more than enough stuff for cleaning, garbage, condiments, food storage, pots/pans, eating/cooking utensils etc. Cupboards full of dishes, glasses, mugs, cups, food gadgets, appliances with everything clean and in good working order. Cabin smelled fresh, windows gleamed, yard well kept, etc.

However, there was no room for our stuff. We are staying a week, so where do we put our food? Our can goods? This place is small. The bathroom is tiny. I can't believe no other reviews mention the tiny bathroom. My chin almost hit the sink every time I would sit down on the toilet. That's small. I and the other lady in our party couldn't use the shower. We just couldn't bring ourselves to get in there. Too small & too dark. I want to see what I am stepping into. My hubby showered in there. Not great but he did it. I didn't call the owner about this 'cause what's he gonna do? He can't install a new shower for me. I know it's not that easy or cheap to update these old cabins. I did call him about the black ants which seemed to pop up every time we sat down. But, of course, the day after I call, the stream of ants coming in the door crack, stopped. Whaddya gonna do?

We didn't hate this place. I loved the deck area and the dock is really nice, the sunsets are awesome. The furniture, for me, was very uncomfortable, but not for the others in our party. The beds were fine. It does LOOK like a picturesque lakeside cabin. We just didn't get our idea of a picturesque lakeside cabin.

Beautiful cottage on Burt Lake

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the stony side cottage on Burt! The cottage is adorable and quaint, and it accommodated our group quite well. We enjoyed watching the amazing sunsets and the blanket of clear stars around the fire pit in the evenings. We enjoyed boating and utilizing the owner's hoist, so we could travel up and down the surrounding rivers and lakes in the area. We also had the opportunity to visit our favorite restaurants near by- Vivio's and Douglas Lake Steak house. Would love to stay again soon.

Great location, wonderful cabin, super nice people!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is very cute, clean and cozy. The sunroom is a delight. The owners are very accommodating and friendly to work with. We loved the location - so many attractions just 20-30 minutes away. I wouldn't recommend this for a family with babies because there's no bathtub and the beach is a bit rocky. All other vacationers will love this destination and all that it offers. Full kitchen, fireplace, satellite TV for rainy days, kayaks, beautiful walking trails and gorgeous sunsets.

Worth driving 800+ miles

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time here! The cabin and the location are beautiful. Descriptions & photos are accurate; property is clean and in fine shape. The owners are very nice, and communication was excellent. Swimming & kayaking were great: the kids, 6 & 8 and good swimmers, were constantly in the water; water is extremely clear; rocky bottom; moderately shallow (not over their heads way out at the mooring buoy). No mosquitos (in August)! Cabin is very cozy & comfortable. Saw a bald eagle and heard loons. Great sunsets! Went hiking & shore-walking at Seven Springs nature preserve nearby: beautiful. Easy drive over to Petoskey; we spent two excellent days at the beach at Petoskey State Park. Spent a couple of days just hanging out right at the cabin and were totally happy. Good rock-hunting (we were surprised to find more Petoskey stones at Burt Lake than Lake Michigan). We did not partake in motorized water sports, but you easily could; we saw lots of folks having a great time tubing, etc. Great supermarket right in town with everything you'd need. Specialty shops have great local smoked fish & jerky, chocolates, ice cream, etc. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it wholehearedly. We drove all the way from southeastern PA with two kids in car, and it was worth it! Enough said.

Charming Red Cabin on Burt Lake!

The Cottage was just what I wanted for our stay on Burt Lake. Charming, very clean & tidy and has the "up north" feeling I was hoping for. Great location and the sunsets are terrific!

We loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to find this cottage right before our vacation started, in fact we became the first week long renters. Can't tell you enough how cute this place is. It really feels like your a kid again going up north with your parents. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and homey. The yard was a great size for playing ball or spreading out. The lake is great, crystal clear, fun sandbar to hang out on, couple of channels to explore, and don't forget the sunken boat right if the dock, pretty cool. Indian river is a nice town to explore, with Petoskey, Harbor Springs and others close by if you need something bigger. Our family really had a wonderful time and look forward to next years stay.
