About Penelope Hzayen

My name is Penny and I live in California with my husband and my 3 boys. We love to travel and explore all corners of the world and meet new faces along the way.

I am from Massachusetts, which makes me overly chatty and outgoing. My husband is from California and is much more down to earth and practical.

Enter 3 boys of extremely different ages and attitudes. One is off to college, one is off to first grade, and one makes a perfect babysitter!

Welcome to life, and I just love it!

Penelope Hzayen purchased this house in 2010

Why Penelope Hzayen chose Kauai

My Husband and I vacationed so much to the Island that we decided to purchase a home. Over the past 2 years we have dedicated our time to redecorating and refurbishing this house to make it into our home away from home.

I love Kauai. From the food, to the beaches, to the peacefullness of the Island, down to the Roosters that I don't even seem to hear anymore, I can't seem to go more than a month without longing to be here again.

What makes this house unique

I have stayed on this island so many times that when my friends said they were going to Kauai I could give them a breakdown of every Hotel on the island. I would give them the pros and cons and then told them why I chose Princeville. Nighttime breezes and privacy blurted out of my mouth. Also, proximity to some of the best food I have ever had and I lived in Boston!

I prefer to be away from the bug bites you get staying down the beaches, and the winds you get coming up from the cliffs and down off the mountains.

Great Private Home, Best value, Great Location, Comfortable and very welcoming home.

  • 5 of 5

We have spent 6 great days at this lovely house, we had everything we needed for our vacation, the location of this house is in a great neighborhood, we got a 3 bedroom house for a price of a studio, this is by far the best value in the north shore, the kitchen is very well equipped, the layout of the house is awesome, the bedrooms are on one side, the living area and kitchen are on the other side, while some are resting in the bedrooms the others would be watching TV, cooking or eating in the kitchen or dining area, the layout gives a sort of privacy and quietness. The master bedroom has one of the best mattresses i ever slept on, it is so comfortable after a long day we slept like babies.

We have used the beach toys, chairs and snorkel sets that the owner left us in the outside beach box which saved us a lot of money. We also enjoyed the massive back yard deck almost every day, great spot for a relaxing time after a day of activity, or barbecuing and enjoying the back yard of this house.

We have stayed in other houses and hotels in Kauai before, this is by far our favorite and best option, we will be back at this house on our future vacations. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Cozy home

  • 4 of 5

This home is comfortable and convenient to Hanalei and Kilaea. It's on a cul-de-sac in a residential neighborhood. The kitchen is well-equipped, beds very comfortable, nice layout for a family, great sheets/towels, very nice owner and on-island contact person.

This home was prefect for our family - we have been to Kauai 10 times and this home was perfectly located, affordable and very roomy! The owner Penny responded quickly to my questions. Great amenities! Can't say enough good things!

Princeville Property ID 484479

Our experience with this rental property was horrible. Here is a summary. Cockroaches, centipedes, ants. Both the master and hall bathroom had the windows removed and either glass or plexiglass was installed and then painted a light brown for privacy, which was chipping away. The tubs were horribly stained, the chaulking and grout mildewed. The windows throughout the house were filthy, as were the screens. Almost every window had cobwebs in the corners. There were 2 sliding doors from the livingroom out to the patio, one did not open at all, the other only about 8". Needless to say, no barbecueing. The slider in the bedroom also only opened about 8". The livingroom had Built in cabinets with a formica counter. At either end were sizable holes where it appears canned lighting was removed and the holes were just left there with the light outlets remaining. There was no ice and no way to make ice. The property manager said there had been a leak in the hose and that is why the ice maker was turned off. When we went to get soap for the dishwasher we found a bucket almost full that was catching water from the faucet leaking. we called the property manager several times and she did attempt to explain away the problem-waiting for 3 weeks for window washer, gecko feces on the walls and door frames are to be expected along with the centipedes etc. It was not the geckos we found disgusting, it was their droppings. She did arrange for an exterminator to come to spray and also a plumber to replace the faucet. we were in Kauai for a wedding and had scheduled a dinner at this house for the bride, groom and his parents. Certainly that did not happen! I would have been mortified more than I already was. Oh, and I must mention the note in the hall bath. -something to the effect "Please do not put anything in the toilet other than toilet paper. We are having trouble with the pipe."

This is the condensed version of our experience. A more detailed account along with pictures will be sent to the homeaway website.

Owner's Response: This review is what we get when we say no to extortion, the review is unfair and baseless, the guest try to extort money out of us and when we said no this is what we get, it's a tough business but this is a part of it i guess. I am not sure were to start, but lets start with the new fridge, brand new, it has ice trays, you can fill up with water and make your ice. the toilet's note is there so we don;t get wipes in the sewer and clog the drains, i am not sure that is unreasonable. as far as the leakage under the sink, we noticed the surface wet under the sink, the plummer couldn't locate the problem, he suspected a couple of things, he put a bucket to verify the problem source, so we can fix it, it was tiny leakage from the faucet, which was replaced. light bulps go out in every house, once informed we replaced it. Anyone can complain about anything and everything but most just love our house and enjoy their vacation as evident by our guests reviews from before and after this one read and see for yourself.
