|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
Our villa welcomes you with the serenity of a luxury retreat and a beautiful view from the lanai of the Coconut Grove, Kohala Mountains, Hapuna Bay and Mauna Kea. This is a second/top floor end unit with plenty of light. The floor plan was selected by the developer to feature on their website at haliikai. com (Ho'oulu model). This is a very large two bedroom condo at 1460 SQ FT.
This luxuriously furnished villa was professionally decorated by an interior designer on the island. An open gourmet kitchen features black-on-stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. It is fully stocked with cookware, utensils, dishes and glassware. The living area has a couch with side chair and features a large flat panel Sony HD LCD television and a DVD player. The dining area is just off of the living area.
The master bedroom has an oversized king bed, large flat panel Sony LCD television and a desk if you cannot help yourself from doing some work. This room also has the view of the Coconut Grove and Kohala Mountains and Hapuna Bay. The master bath has a double vanity, a very large walk in shower and separate soaking tub. Granite and tile throughout. The guest bedroom is extremely large with two queen beds, comfortably sleeping four. Just off of the guest bedroom is the guest bathroom which also has a double vanity with granite tops and tub/shower combo.
Enjoy wireless internet access throughout the villa. Full size washer and dryer so leave the extra suitcase at home and save on baggage fees. The parking area is near the front door (not true of all units).
Do not be fooled by other Hali’i Kai listings stating an ocean view at up to 4X the nightly rate. The view of most of these units is dominated by Hilton Hotel across the fairway or the roadway which travels down the center of the resort. The view of the Coconut Grove, the Kohala mountains, Hapuna Bay and Mauna Kea is truly superior in both beauty and privacy.
Overall we liked the property although when we arrived, we found the sink had not been cleaned (old molding cereal in the disposal splash guard)and the dishes were still in the dishwasher which we unloaded ourselves. In the master bathroom the faucet handle for the right sink was broken yet whoever cleaned the bathroom managed to prop up the handle by shoving the soap dispenser next to it - yet again not a big problem but irksome just the same. Why didn't we call you ask, we were there for a week and didn't want someone coming in/out to repair this minor issue while we were in the unit or even if we were out. We had a family member who stopped by to visit us the day we checked in, she happened to be the general manager of a couple properties in Kona and she is accustomed to walking through units before she rents them out and she pointed out a number of deficiencies. Maybe this was an off week and overall we were satisfied with the unit.
The unit is a distance from the pool area which you really don't get that prospective based on the pictures, a layout of the resort would be helpful. The pool area did have a bar and a limited lunch/snack menu but we thought the food and pricing was very reasonable and convenient. Also on the upside, the unit had a lot of recreational equipment, chairs, beach towels, etc. Furniture and bedding were comfortable and the convenience of a washer and dryer was helpful.
Would we stay there again or recommend it to others? I don't think we would. We'd like a unit closer to the pool area although we were able to rent bikes to ride to and from the pool and around the Waikoloa Resort area. We were also surprised when we rented the unit that it required travel insurance. We've stayed at nicer properties (Makena, Maui) than this one and they didn't require any insurance. We recently got an email from the travel insurance company and to our astonishment the owner had filed a claim for the repair of the slider door track for $52.08, once again not a big deal but we don't recall any major problem but the slider may have been sticky when we got there but for us that would be minor. I guess we need to be more vigilant to checking everything and report it immediately. This is the first time we have ever had an issue with a property and we have rented many units over the years. Hal'ii Kai is a beautiful resort community and we would perhaps staying here again just not this unit.
We were here in January and would definitely stay here again. It definitely exceeded our expectations and probably one of the best value for the money VRBO that we've stayed at thus far. The condo is very well cared for and up dated with granite counters in the kitchen. I appreciate the high quality beds which are much softer than any other rental we've stayed at, much more comparable to our home mattress. It's incredibly convenient to have a full kitchen as well as a number of beach supplies that we took with us through out the island. There are also washer and dryers in the condo with detergents available to use. The Halii kai resort is a beautiful resort, with a great club house, food is just as good as many of the surrounding restaurants and better priced. I felt that the pool was a great size and not overly busy. We often saw whales jumping from club house during our stay. Two of the arguably best beaches on the island are less than a 20 minute drive from the condo where we spent a majority of our time. The near by Queens Market has many of the needed amenities and a good selection for shopping.
This unit is very close to the entrance to the resort, which makes it farther from the beach and club house. I never felt that this was a significant deterrent as it was still easily walkable or you could just drive your car and parking was never an issue. I would have a hard time arguing for a closer place at the price difference as the condo itself was amazing. It also was closer to the grilling area, we didn't use this but should be considered. Lastly I do think being close to the exit was worth while as we spent the majority of our out door time at some of the beautiful beaches around. You can stay at a hotel associated with these beaches, but I'd hate to give up a condo for a single room that would cost close to double the price to be on a beach that is so easily accessible.
I definitely would recommend this to others and will stay here in the future.
We found the owner and management delightful to work with and they were extremely organized, efficient and quick in their communications with us from start to finish.
The villa was impeccable and was comfortable to live in for 11 days with two busy children. It felt like home as it had so many amenities, from soy sauce in the fridge to tea bags and ziplock bags in the pantry to a full set of beach chairs, sand toys, boogie boards and beach gear. There was also balls & rackets for the tennis court & basketball court waiting for us too!
The grounds were amazing and allowed for much mongoose-sighting and gecko catching which endlessly entertained the kids. This villa is handy to the bar-b-q's and hammocks - so that made relaxing & evening meals super easy.
I highly recommend this villa, and if you stay here - make sure to make it down to the pool at sunset for whale watching and a traditional blowing of the conch while the sun goes down.
This condo exceeded our expectations in every way. Beautifully decorated and very, very spacious. The view into the common area off of the lanai was perfect. One of our favorite aspects was the very large master bathroom. I would recommend anyone considering a condo on the Big Island to stay at Hali'i Kai and if you are going, this unit has to be one of the best
My wife and 3 children spent 8 days on The Big Island and stayed here the entire time. The unit was clean and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed to make all the meals we needed. The place was spacious and very comfortable and the owners left lots of useful information about the unit and the surrounding area. They even let us use their boogie boards at the near-by beaches. The development was also perfect for our family. Many other families stayed there and our kids were able to meet nice friends for the stay. We also went up to the pool almost every night to have a glass of wine and catch the perfect sunsets. We couldn't have been happier!
The whole family totally loved this Hali'i Kai Condo. It was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, spacious and had everything we needed and more! The grounds were beautifully maintained, the staff at the Clubhouse were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the pool/hot tub and wished we had spent more time there. The kitchen had everything we needed and many things we loved, but didn't expect including coffee to go cups, water bottles, lunch cooler, etc. We were also totally set for the beach with great towels, chairs, Boogie Boards, etc. The location was very convenient. While we ended up driving to most destinations, it is also easy to walk to the shops/restaurants/attractions at the nearby Hilton. We would definitely come again!
Welcome to the Big Island. You have made the best choice by choosing the Big Island for your Hawaiian vacation. The diversity of experiences and climates is unmatched on any other island. And with an active volcano...a truly unique experience you will never forget. There is no better place to base your Hawaiian vacation than the Kohala Coast.
Kohala Coast. Often called the Gold Coast for its exclusivity and its beautiful weather, the Kohala Coast has evolved into the premier resort location on the big island and all of Hawaii. Birthplace of the great King Kamehameha, tales of the favored status of this stretch of the island are legend. The climate is an absolutely perfect 80 degrees year round with sun drenched days and continuous ocean breezes. There is no humidity and the coast only receives 9 inches of rain annually. Mountains and the ocean await you every turn.
Waikoloa Beach Resort. The property is located inside the Waikoloa Beach Resport, conveniently located only 18 miles from the Keahole Kona (KOA) international airport. Within the resort are two golf courses. The Kings course is links style designed by Tom Weiskopf. The Beach course designed by Robert Trent Jones offers some stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Multi-round discounts are also available.
Both the Kings and Queens Shopping Districts offer the best in world class shopping and dining as well as two stores to pick up any supplies you need for your stay.
Also located within Waikoloa and just across a fairway from our property is the world class Hilton Hotel with its well known Kohala Spa and Dolphin Quest -- an unforgettable experience where you and your family can swim with the dolphins. There are also six fabulous restaurants in the hotel.
Also within Waikoloa are interesting archeological sites and the white sand beaches of Anaeho'omalu Bay. All within walking distance or if you prefer, a short car ride where plenty of parking is available.
Hali’i Kai. Welcome to Hali’i Kai, the resort community where our villa is located. Since its opening just a few years ago, the Hali’i Kai resort has received numerous awards from the Travel Industry. Hali’i Kai is the only true oceanfront complex in Waikoloa and offers the most spectacular views along the Kohala Coast.
Topping the list of amenities is the exclusive private Ocean Club. With an ocean front location sitting on a bluff of black volcanic rock, the Ocean Club features a multi-level, meandering resort style pool, sand bottom spa, lounge area, and a full service restaurant and bar professionally managed by an Executive Chef with fresh island cuisine that rivals any five star restaurant. Also with the Ocean Club is the Exercise Hale with various cardio equipment, free weights and integrated weight machine. The Exercise Hale sits right on the bluff overlooking the ocean in all directions. Watch for humpbacks whales or enjoy the sunset while you work out. As our Resort guest, you will have full access to the private Ocean Club and your first visit will bring such a smile to your face and your immediate thought will be I never want to leave. Every night awaits you with a perfect sunset and Mai Tai's.
The property also features a lush and beautifully landscaped Coconut Grove. This area comes complete with gas grills and picnic tables as well as hammocks to enjoy a relaxing morning or day with stunning views of Mauna Kea and swaying palm trees. There are also large grassy areas for playing or laying down on a blanket to read a good book (or a Kindle!).
To complete your active vacation, the property also has a full size tennis court and half size basketball court.
