All about the fit!

If you want a quiet spot, very calm and beautiful beach and rent condos because you like to do some of your own cooking this is probably the perfect spot for you. We felt a little isolated and thought we may be able to walk to a few things but literally everything we did required a taxi ranging from $20-$30 round trip for 4.

The unit itself is very comfortable (beds, linens, AC, wifi, etc). It's nice! And the best location within the resort. It's right on the sandy beach. View of booby caye and close to the pool. Rolf and Andrea were great with communication and providing info on the area. Check in was so easy with packet they sent and lock box. Every rental I've had has some stuff left by previous renters that comes in handy but this one was very cleaned out (no can coolers, large plastic cups, salt and pepper, etc).

You can walk down the beach but you have to walk through hedonism which is funny once or twice and then gets creepy. There are several other large all inclusives before you get to the boardwalk (about 15 minute walk). But that restaurant was the worst we experienced in negril. Food seems microwaved and WAY overpriced. Any "civilization" beyond the boardwalk is a very long walk (and we love to walk when we travel).

The taxi recommendation from Rolf is awesome, Joseph. He's prompt and prices are fair. But I would recommend researching the taxi culture in negril if you stay here because you need a taxi everytime you leave. Know what a fair price is. I used a friend living here to help with this. For 4 of us $30 round trip to cliffs/west end, $20 to far side of beach (like boutbon beach) and $15 to this side of beach (cosmos or coco la Palm). Or consider rentng a car here for a day or two.

Point Village has a strange vibe. Everything is clean but it's a bit of a ghost town. There are deserted buildings all over (oceanfront bar, water sports building and large restaurant by pool with menus and equipment still in it, kids activity building). pool is definitely clean and swimable but there is a lot of painted cement that is very worn, a dry fountain, empty hot tub and dilapidated ladder). That being said, it's very quiet and feels super safe.

Know what you're getting into. Know this is a very well managed unit. Like i said, if you want a very quiet spot, this may be a good fit. I have teens but when they were little I could have overlooked the ghost town vibe because of the peaceful beach and comfort of the unit.

Condo 185 - home away from home!

  • 4 of 5

My husband, daughter and boyfriend rented this condo for one week. Had a fabulous time! Three bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms (the shower in the master bathroom had very low water pressure), living room, dining area and small kitchen. The condo was updated, beds firm but fairly comfortable. Everything was in good running order. A covered patio with small table was perfect for our morning breakfast overlooking a spectacular beach. We dealt with Rolf to make our arrangements and found him very professional and informative. The condo is located at Point Village on Rutland Point. Based on some conversations while we stayed at Point Village we understand that at one time it was a thriving resort. It has the skeleton of all the luxuries of a resort but deserted and dilapidated which is slightly odd in vibe. The Condos are some owned by the government and some individuals. The grounds are not well groomed like edged gardens etc., but are raked daily, trashed emptied and security onsite. There is a pool which we did not use nor saw anyone using. There is a path all around the complex which makes a great place to walk or run which we did daily. The beach is private and we saw maybe 15-20 people daily so it was lovely and quiet. it has a nice sandy entrance and the water is beautiful in clarity and color. They have some of the best snorkeling on site!! It is easy to walk out to the road and grab a taxi. Great restaurants are not far away and Rolf will have a sheet of information on some of those along with some other great suggestions including Rocky's. We took Rocky's service from Montego Bay to the condo and were very pleased. We also used his service for a Black River/Pelican Bar/YS Falls tour and thoroughly enjoyed the experienced. I must say Clinton, our driver, was a huge part of our experience with stopping at roadside vendors so we could taste some of the authentic foods and he also taught us what some of the different vegetation was that we were seeing, including stopping and picking leaves for us to smell, truly a personalized service!! We are in our fifties and my daughter/boyfriend in her late twenties, and we all equally enjoyed our stay and would recommend this unit for your vacation.

My whole family enjoyed the resort for the week. We had some hot water issues when showering. We liked the location close to the beach, which we took advantage of. Rolf and company work great to work with. We would definitely use there services again.

The Perfect Spot

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I walked most of the Negril 7 mile beach and I believe we had the best spot. Quiet, few people, sandy beach and great snorkelling. We had a wonderful view of the beach from our veranda where we ate most meals. The townhouse is beautiful on the inside, granite kitchen and bathrooms, spacious and most important it has air-conditioning!! We did not have a car so getting around was an issue. The townhouse does come with a complimentary grocery trip. We had a bad experience with a taxi driver. Upon entering the "taxi" we agreed on one price and then the price became a completely different much higher price by the end. Called the police because he was getting aggressive (the police came within 3 minutes) and found out he wasn't a legal taxi driver. We now know only get in taxi's that have a red license plate, these cars are registered taxi's. In spite of this we would still go back to Jamaica. We have been 3 times but first time to this townhouse and we definitely would return to this particular townhouse.

Owner's Response: We share your perspective that the peacefulness, privacy and natural beauty of the Point Village shoreline makes it the best spot in Negril! We are sorry that you had a bad experience with an unlicensed taxi driver. We are proud of the response time of the Negril police, which should give other visitors confidence to know that if they are faced with a similar situation the police will respond promptly. Our manager has taken steps to put the information about 'the red license plates' for licensed taxis into our visitor information packet. Thanks for providing us with this useful information. We hope you get an opportunity to visit our townhome again.

I have been to a lot of resorts throughout the Caribbean and have been highly disappointed. My friends and I took a leap of faith by renting this condo. It was more than we could have hoped for. From booking with Rolf and Andrea to Louis, the security supervisor and Forrester, the property manager, everything was awesome! The condo is set in the most perfect location. The beach is right across the walk path. Waking up to the sound of the ocean was spectacular. The pool is right next to the condo. The condo itself is fabulous! Very clean and spacious. Rocky's taxi was awesome. We had the pleasure of meeting Wayne. He was so helpful and the perfect tour guide. Tony Montana's was a great place to eat. Great food and low cost. The only suggestion I would make is that guests be allowed to have a vehicle drive down to the unit to unload luggage and groceries. It is a challenge to lug all of that from the top parking lot. Especially when the path is not lit very well. That being said, that is the one and only downside. I cannot wait to go back next year! We finally found the perfect spot.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, Thanks for your complimentary review of your experience at Point Village Resort and your stay at unit 185! Since you plan to return next year, we can provide directions of how to get to a parking lot which is very close to the unit. Just tell your cab driver to take you past the Property Manager's Office and drive down the hill. The first parking lot on the right is next to the pool, on the opposite side from unit 185, which is just a short, level walk along the beach to the condo. Of course, Rolf and Andrea know of this parking lot and will be able to direct you as well. Happy Holidays from The Owners of Unit 185!

My whole family (2 little children), parents, and husband stayed here for one week and thought it was perfect for our family! The views were amazing, and the close proximity to pool and beach made it a wonderful vacation for us. It was quiet, away from the hustle bustle of the tourist part of town, and we loved all the amenities of a modern kitchen, A/C, and even cable television. It was nice to have the maid come clean the room for us during our stay as well. I would come again in a heartbeat.
