Why stay put in a villa when you can have this?!!
We didn't use the boat pictured here - the Avuncan - we had her slightly smaller sister - Summer Love, which is 12 berth. Petra also takes bookings for a 10 berth boat so there are choices available depending on your group size.
To be honest I'm not sure where to start with this review as it was such a PERFECT holiday. So relaxing, but not boring! The rooms on Summer Love were pretty good for a boat, I thought. Perfectly clean and not a bad size for a boat and all were en suite. However, having the perfect weather we took the opportunity to sleep on deck which made it the most outdoor, fresh air holiday ever! Going to sleep with the lull of the waves and the sight of the stars was just beautiful, as was waking up to a perfect sunrise every morning.
The crew were great - Captain Sabri and Chef Sabri! I really enjoyed the food as there was a great selection of fresh salads and simply cooked fish or meat. There was plenty of it with a large breakfast, lunch and dinner every day along with afternoon tea and fresh fruit.
We took the excursion to Dalayan, which was our only day off the boat, which we enjoyed but other than that we were mostly on the boat. This would be my only (small) criticism of the trip really as the itinerary made it sound like there were more 'stops' than there actually were.
Petra was fantastic. She answered my endless emails immediately and with all the information I needed. She really went beyond the 'call of duty' at the end of our trip though - at a point were she could have just said goodbye and washed her hands of us! When our onwards transportation (which we had organised ourselves) failed to honour the price we had agreed, she stepped in (without us even asking) and argued (in Turkish) for us, then recommended we give up with the cowboys, and she then organised a driver for us. So I really cannot praise her service enough.
I was worried that August was going to be too hot for Turkey but it was absolutely perfect weather for being on a boat. Hot enough but the sea was still refreshing.
Fethiye itself was a disappointment - well, where we stayed was - Calis. Unless you like feeling very much 'at home' (i.e., everyone there is English!!) I would suggest you stayed in the town of Fethiye instead, which seemed much nicer in the short time we were there to pick up the boat.
Other than that, it really was a perfect holiday. The kids absolutely loved it too but none of us wanted to leave the boat! We can't wait to go back!
The Lycian coast is' t area along the Turkish coast where the Aegean sea turns into the Mediterranean Sea, between the Gulf of Fethiye and the Gulf of Antalya. The name is taken from the Lycians, the people who inhabited this region in ancient times, it 's area was called Lycia a province of the Roman Empire. The Lycians hacked their graves in the high, steep cliffs. These tombs were carved as high as possible, so that the deceased would be closer to God. It also had to do with the status of the person. The person with the most money got the highest grave. It is a mountainous, heavily forested area with pine forests, olive groves hundreds of bays. The sea is blue and crystal clear. Due to the mountainous nature, most bays are accessible only from the sea. The 'Lycian Way', the only official signposted long-distance hiking trail follows the coastline of this area.
