About Ronald

I am a retired doctor, Consultant Anaesthetist, who bought the property - a small farm - as I love Italy and enjoy the rural life which the property offers.

Ronald purchased this villa in 2002

Why Ronald chose Pesaro-Urbino

I have refurbished the two villas on the property over the past 9 years and am always looking to ways to improve the place. I originally furnished it as I would for our own private use, but as the years have passed, owing to the fact that we dont get out for more than a month a year, decided to rent it out to simply cover costs. It is not run as a business venture, but simply a way of maintaining it to the standard I would want it when I holiday there, without the added expense of maintaining it.

What makes this villa unique

The position is wonderful as it is not overlooked by anyone or any property and although the nearest village of some 70 houses ( approximately 1 km away ) is visible from the front garden, they are unable to see into the property. The air is pure and totally unpolluted. We are 600 metres above sea level and in the mountains with no factories within many many kilometres. Local restaurants abound with local food and the area is not a tourist destination. English is barely spoken. The views from the front garden which is very large are unrivalled and the benefits of Le Marche as opposed to Tuscany are beautiful views, no tourists and awesome hills and mountains and valleys.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Ronald

Just to let you know how much we are enjoying our holiday: your house, its location and all that goes with both are wonderful - the view, dinner at Fabio’s, Alexandra’s bread, the pool, Sant’Agata Feltria and its food shops etc etc. We are off to Arezzo today to have a look at the Piero della Francescas. What an idyllic location and, although I did go to the theatre festival at Sant’Arcangelo a few decades ago, a new one to me.

Best wishes

Our manager/housekeeper, Alexandra, will welcome you to the villa and show you all the facilities. The linen and towels, both beach and house are changed once a week. You may if you wish, have this done more frequently at your cost and paid to the housekeeper. She also provides freshly baked white and brown bread, free range eggs ( when available ) and local wine. Again, to be arranged initially through the owner and thereafter through the housekeeper. The pool is NOT fenced and is 1 metre deep at its shallow end and 2.2 metres deep at the deep end. Stairs are positioned at either end. Swimming and activities in and around the pool is entirely at your own risk. Please be careful. There are 2 houses on site. 'Poggio Bello' where you will stay, and 'Casa Vecchia' which belongs to the owners for their own use and will ALWAYS be unoccupied whilst you are there, ensuring total privacy and no sharing of facilities.

Not just excellent - superlative!

Such a beautiful house in such a beautiful place!

We think often of our wonderful holiday in this property, perhaps the most lovely in which we have ever stayed and one which comes close to our idea of perfection. It somehow contrives to be remote yet accessible, off the tourist trail yet still near fabulous places rich in Italy's culture. Shopping, markets and restaurants are nearby and always after our outings, the return to the tranquillity of the villa, garden and pool.

The information and emails beforehand were clear and helpful, but while the owner's description is accurate in every way, it doesn't do justice to this lovely house. Suffice it to say that we would recommend it unreservedly.

All was to hand at the villa which was spotlessly clean and well maintained and equipped in dining room/kitchen (amazing cooker), sitting room (relaxing), with bedrooms (spacious and comfortable) and bathrooms (beautifully appointed) amply supplied with linen. Seven people were accommodated in comfort and the local managers were unobtrusive, but readily available if needed.

We ate alfresco from breakfast onwards, we swam and very often, day and night, we just sat, gazing out on the little hamlet below from every angle of the villa, balcony, terrace and garden. No one tired of this view, but there were fascinating paintings and books in the house too.

Complete with children, parents, grannies/mothers-in-law (oh dear!) and a grandpa wedged precariously in between, we converged on the villa from various parts of Europe near the end of May 2010. Some, among the youngest and oldest, were never out of the pool; some walked and cycled; some played tennis in the little town nearby; all chose things to do from the excellent welcome notes.

We detached ourselves from the villa to visit some of the wonderful surroundings. We ate at restaurants recommended, including the delicious pizzas in the nearest small town. We went to a festive meal in the local hamlet when, beside a long table of Italians, we ate delicious fishy things and felt we might be starring under the starry night in some Italian film.

At the end of our stay, our family - aged from under 2 to over 78 years and all fairly argumentative by nature - declared in inusual unison and harmony that the owner of this lovely house had led us to discover a most beautiful and magical place which we didn't want to leave.

Wondeful views, beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, tastefully decorated, well-maintained house with all amenities. Spacious, and with a wonderful open planned freestanding kitchen, there was penty of room for all 5 of us.

The gardens were wonderful and the views from the balcony and terrace were priceless. The children had a wonderful time looking for insects, (we even saw bats) and spalshing about in the large pool.

The owners treat their guests with respect (they do not have lots of rules and regulations) and that made for a very relaxing and comfortable holiday.

I would love to see it in June when the wildflowers are in full bloom.

A fantastic house, that for me, only lacked a dishwasher, but even that did not detract from the house, which was really a home from home.

Santagata Feltria has everything you would want, with all amenities supermarket, bakers etc and great places to eat. Bologna and San Leo are also easy day trips and Bologna should not be missed.

I have recommened this house to my friends who like to stay in unique places with the personal touch. If I had a house abroad, I would want it to be just like this!"
