Silver Rock is a fully equipped vacation rental that offers a true 'Up North' Michigan feel. It offers 272 ft of private lake frontage with a 14 ft boat and dock included for your use. A firepit (wood provided at no cost) is also included. Directv is always a touch away for those rainy days. You can Fish, Hunt, Hike, Bike, ORV, Canoe, Kayak, Golf, Casino, or just relax. There are thousands of acres of state owned land nearby that are also available for your use.
Silver Rock is available the last Saturday in April through the last day in October.
Fishing season opens the last Saturday in April.
Ocqueoc Lake is a no wake lake!
My wife and I have been sharing our 'slice of heaven' for 32 years.
Steve Kellar purchased this cottage in 1984
Unlike many lake properties where the cabins are close to one another, Silver Rock will give you the feel of the only cottage on the entire lake. Another cottage cannot be seen from our shore.
One visit to Silver Rock will give you that true 'up north' feeling. Lake Huron is approx. 3 miles away and there are smaller Trout streams in any direction. The American Indians referred to this area as 'Sacred Land'. It is the ideal location for outdoor lovers and sportsman. Owner lives next door to help out when at all possible....
Well, as I hate writing reviews, this says something about our 2 stays on Ocqueoc Lake. First up, the hosts, Steve and Vickie, you couldn't ask for more hospitable, friendly, sincere, fun and just all around "good people". They make sure you have everything you need and offer advice and help whenever asked. My wife and I booked, totally by fluke, a long weekend back in October 2015. Had never been to northern Michigan and decided to do a short little getaway, doing the circle tour from Northern Indiana, thru Illinois, into Wisconsin for business, up to the UP, across the Mackinac Bridge(breathtaking in itself) and down into northern Michigan to Ocqueoc Lake, then back home to Indiana. Upon arrival, my wife and I looked at each other and just smiled. As Steve says, "Our little slice of Heaven". We extended our stay an extra night. This was October, but we were blessed with warm sunny weather for our short stay. Steve brought us and the canoe to the little dam to set off down the river. We canoed Ocqueoc river(breathtaking again) to Lake Huron and were greeted with dozens of salmon traversing the waterway and keeping pace with the canoe. You could almost touch them. And Lake Huron, beautiful, serene, crystal clear and miles of white sand beaches. For those wanting tourist adventures, Mackinac City and Island are less than an hour away. Mackinac Island is a must see. If needed, you literally have everything at your fingertips within a short drive, and yet you can be as secluded as you want.
I could go on and on, we loved it so much, we ended up purchasing property on the lake and plan to build our retirement home there. We spent another wonderful week with our 30-something son during August 2016. Our son's words: "You found a Gem Mom and Dad. I can't believe how beautiful it is up here. I can't wait to make more memories over the years with you and our family and friends".
Oh, and if you like nature, Hiking, Fishing, Deer, Eagles, Loons, Turkeys, birds of all kinds, Chippies(we fed them to Vickie's chagrin) LOL. Luv ya Vickie!!! Seriously, if you want a little slice of heaven on a beautiful, pristine, quiet lake, in a lovely little cottage with great views and great hosts, we HIGHLY recommend this place!
I would encourage anyone who needs a place to relax, fish and need of seclusion! The owners, Steve and Vickie, keep a beautiful 2 bedroom home, by far exceeds a cabin, share a beautiful place on Ocqueoc Lake. It was hard to come home to everyday life in which is busy; yet, you miss your family. I read 3 books, enjoyed fishing at night, meeting Alvin and Theodore the friendly chipmunks. Loved watching my favorite hummingbirds. Steve offered to take our car to Lake Huron for us to kayak starting from Ocqueoc Lake into Ocqueoc River and then into Hammond Bay, unfortunately weather kept us from kayaking further. We will definitely go back. Thank you Steve and Vickie for the peacefulness that I was in need of. The stay was so needed. I love the happy hour shadow!! If you want to know what that means, book a stay!!
I searched for quite awhile before deciding on this cabin on Ocqeuoc Lake and I'm happy I found this one. It is perfect for a week of fishing or just relaxing in the cabin. It IS secluded. There are nearby places to buy groceries, bait, and fuel but there aren't many. It brings you back to the simple times where people are just happy about living life.
When we arrived at the cabin we we're greeted by Vicky and given a tour of the property and the cabin. She made us feel right at home. She even gave us some veggies out of her Organic Garden. The place is picturesque. The sunsets are AMAZING. We fell in love with it right away.
Once settled in I decided to take the boat out, that is included with the cabin rental. The lake is perfect size in my opinion and hardly ever anyone on it. When at the cabin, you wouldn't even know other people live on the lake, there are none in sight. It isn't until you get out and about on the lake that you see the other few houses.(Maybe 10) Everyone else treats you as part of the community. They were very welcoming as well, when we saw them.
I was trying my best at fishing and caught a few small ones. Then I spoke with Steve, got a few quick tips and he even let me borrow his lure. Not five minutes later I pulled in a 28" Steelhead. It was a great time. The night before we left Steve came and informed us the Northern Lights we're out in the sky so we watched it with them by the fire. It was awesome. We will be back.
There is a reason everyone leaves good reviews here, because they are true! Steve & Vickie have been doing this awhile and they have a feel for it. The cabin lacks nothing. I recommend this cabin.
OMG!! From the minute we drove up, we fell in love with the cabin. It was exactly as Steve described in his description. Vicki and Steve were the perfect host and hostess, and we loved that we had a boat to use. Even though it rained for a few days, we didnt mind it at all. It gave us a chance to drive around Upper Michigan and enjoy the beauty of our state. I definitely recommend this cabin to anyone who is looking for some R and R, and I am sure we will stay there again. The lake was absoultely beautiful!!!!
Our little family thoroughly enjoyed our time on Lake Ocqueoc. The cottage was clean, comfortable, up to date, and the property is very well maintained.
We were looking for something quiet and private. This fit the bill perfectly and is absolutely beautiful to boot! The cottage sits atop a small hill overlooking the water and is situated such that we thought we were the only people on the lake! There are a few other properties here and there, but we didn't even know they existed until we took the row boat out for a relaxing ride on the water.
Steve and Vickie are wonderful. They were very hospitable and accommodating, but not at all overbearing or ever-present. They made sure we had everything we needed, gave us tips on things to see and do locally, were generous with letting use the property's amenities, and were great to talk and visit with. And if you're not the talking and visiting type, no doubt they are courteous enough to give you all the space you want.
Should you need to get out and about during your stay, the drive on US-23 along Lake Huron is very nice. Hoeft State Park is a great place for a picnic or a hike, and you really must stop by Three Heart Bakery just outside the park! We were able to take the kids swimming at Lakeside Park in Rogers City, and Ocqueoc Falls were also nice to visit.
We would highly recommend this property to anyone and look forward to visiting again in the future. Thanks, Steve and Vickie, for a wonderful getaway.
This is an absolutely beautiful, perfectly manicured property! The lake is a hidden gem in northern Michigan. We had a great time paddle boating around the lake which was provided by the property owners. We canoed down the river to Lake Huron which was difficult but reaching the lake was quite a visual reward. I would definitely recommend this! We saw 3 bald eagles, one from about 150 feet away! At dark we had a campfire in the fire pit and were amazed by the amount of stars !!! Steve and Vickie are exceptional people and made our stay one we will never forget. We definitely plan on returning, we miss it already!
Although our cottage is a very secluded setting, there are many activities within a 1 hour drive. Gaylord is a golf mecca. Petosky has many shops as well as a Casino. Mackinaw Island is famous for its shops as well as it's historical importance.
