Ocqueoc Lake is a no wake lake!
My wife and I have been sharing our 'slice of heaven' for 32 years.
Steve Kellar purchased this cottage in 1984
Unlike many lake properties where the cabins are close to one another, Silver Rock will give you the feel of the only cottage on the entire lake. Another cottage cannot be seen from our shore.
One visit to Silver Rock will give you that true 'up north' feeling. Lake Huron is approx. 3 miles away and there are smaller Trout streams in any direction. The American Indians referred to this area as 'Sacred Land'. It is the ideal location for outdoor lovers and sportsman. Owner lives next door to help out when at all possible....
Nice cottage, beautiful lake, and friendly owners! This cottage has all the amenities, very well kept, and friendly owner right next door. Great for one or two couples or small family. We took out the row boat and went canoeing down the Ocqueoc. The weather was mostly good, very quiet area, friendly people. Highly recommend this property and would return in a heartbeat!
I have been coming to this place since I was less than a year old. This spot has it all from fishing, adventure seekers, hunting, or relaxation. Case in point, the weather was not as favorable as my previous visits, but I found myself meditating at the sounds of nature near the lake as it was an escape from the everyday (Hustle and bustle) I deal with. Highly recommend
We really enjoyed the week we spent at Ocqueoc Lake. The cabin was AWESOME!!! They have done an excellent job updating it and there was plenty of room for the two of us and our dog. The cabin is exactly as pictured and was very clean and adequately furnished with everything we needed. There was only one day where we had to stay inside because of the weather. We did not fish but it was so relaxing to sit on the porch or down by the lake and watch bald eagles, sand cranes, ducks and loons on the water and listen to their calls.
There was absolutely no drawback to having the owner’s literally right across the driveway. We were in and out a lot and saw them frequently but they were totally respectful of our privacy. They made us feel right at home and never infringed on our privacy. When time permitted, their hospitably was unmatched. We met some great people who live around the lake too and we all were able to share some good times together and will always have good memories of Ocqueoc Lake. Zoe the dog was a dear; just loved her smile!
This rental definitely rates a giant #1 in our books and we would highly recommend it to anyone who wants that true, up-north experience.
We rented the cabin for a week and wished we had rented it for 2-weeks. This is an amazing place to vacation. The property is well taken care of, probably the best we have rented. It's secluded but still close enough to a few towns/villages that one can get anything you would need; groceries, fishing supplies, restaurants etc... Steve and Vicky live on the property, which we would not have even known they were there except for the fact that we enjoyed spending time with them. Also I'm sure a big reason the property is so well kept. They were so helpful in directing us to local attractions. There are a lot of things to do near the cabin. Although Ocqueoc lake would have been enough for me, Lake Huron is nearby and more than worth the time. We went on several nice hikes and visited some of the other lakes nearby. I recommend doing the Ocqueoc River trip to Lake Huron. You can leave right from the house and canoe to Lake Huron via the river connected to the lake. This was a highlight for sure. It was a beautiful and challenging trip down the river. We were blessed with great weather which is common in this part of the country in the summer time. This region has became one of our all time favorites. Thank you Steve and Vicky for being so kind and helpful and for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!
We rented this cabin for 4 nights. It was 4 wonderful nights. The temps got a little low but Steve offered to light the furnace to keep us warm. We were plenty warm without it. We took our own boat with us and Steve was kind enough to move his loaner boat to shore and make a spot for mine at the dock. I am not used to taking my boat and having a dock available. We tried the fishing and didn't have much luck(Didn't try very hard), but Vickie and Steve caught a few and were kind enough to share(cooked). They even made our return nice by having laundry facilities available. No dirty clothes when we got home. Vickie, Steve, Zoe and their grandson Jonathan, went above and beyond making our vacation wonderful. The cabin and view were spectacular. Will we return? You bet we will. Thanks for the hospitality.
The cabin was clean, well appointed, and very comfortable. The location on the lake is excellent with plenty to keep you occupied nearby. The fishing was quite good with little pressure from other boaters. Pike and perch were active during my stay, but I was told that the walleye and steelhead fishing is good later in the season. I recommend renting the motor for the boat so you can reach all the hotspots on this lake.
The owners were very helpful and being located right next door, were quick to solve issues and provide tips on where to fish and things to do in the area.
Although our cottage is a very secluded setting, there are many activities within a 1 hour drive. Gaylord is a golf mecca. Petosky has many shops as well as a Casino. Mackinaw Island is famous for its shops as well as it's historical importance.
