Lovely family stay in private gated Islamorada community
My husband, college-aged daughter and I enjoyed a weeklong stay at Sandbar Bungalow Villa in Islamorada Jan 6-12. While we didn't get to meet property manager Eddie Chesney, he was responsive throughout my VRBO experience from booking, to checking in a couple of times before the stay, making sure we were fine upon arrival and answering the couple of questions we had. The reason why I reached out to him before our arrival was Hurricane Irma. After seeing the devastation wrought upon the Florida Keys, which we have enjoyed visiting almost annually for the past decade, I asked him for an assessment of the property while I still had time to cancel and get a full refund. He checked out the property personally when homeowners were allowed back onto the Keys and told me what he saw and prospects for the area by the time we arrived.
It was sad to see the cleanup continues months later, with a drive down the Overseas Highway to Key West showing large mounds of debris and devastated homes and businesses but our stay was nonetheless a good one. We spent our tourist dollars locally, enjoying great seafood as usual, hiring a fishing boat from Islamorada and buying souvenirs. It's what the area needs. It looks like things will largely be back to normal by summertime with even more resorts open for business.
The community where Sandbar Bungalow is located in is truly lovely and special. It doesn't look like it sustained damage at all, the pool was beautiful and inviting and everyone we encountered gave friendly greetings. The resort seemed fully occupied the first weekend we arrived with cars in virtually every driveway and trash cans out for pickup.
The photos are true to life. Every room was spacious and comfortable. We loved the use of the washer and dryer, the AC/heat was strong and the kitchen would have been perfect if only it had a tea kettle. Our family enjoyed the strong wi-fi since my husband works even while on vacation and our daughter was streaming her usual YouTube channels. Handy extras included two bicycles with helmets and locks, an ice chest and kayaks. A nice ritual was walking to the community beach (3 minute walk) and watching sunset.
Happy to recommend a stay in this lovely house.
Betty I must say I'm extremely humbled by your review. Nothing puts a bigger smile to my face than knowing that my clients have enjoyed their stay and furthermore the service provided. I take pride in building a great reputation in the industry and ultimately hope to host you and family/ friends in the future!
They Fl Keys need this business more now than ever and thank you for your support! We wish you safe travel mercies and hope you come back soon to have some fun and soak up the sun!
We were very pleased. The owner accommodated our early arrival request, which was a great help. When we arrived, the inside was sparkling clean and well equipped with everything needed. Anglers Reef is like an oasis within Islamorada. The complex is well manicured and the residents are very friendly. The large pool is a big bonus, and was always clean and at the right temperature. We spent a lot of time there lounging and admiring the view of the ocean. Great value overall.
Another awesome vacation at Sanbar Bungalow Villa!!!
This was our third trip to this amazing property!! During our past stays we were joined by friends who live in southern Florida. This year we traveled with our son, daughter-in-law, and 17 month old grand daughter. Prior to our trip I contacted Eddie, the property manager inquiring as to where I might be able to rent a pack and play and high chair. Eddie informed me that he would provide both for our stay. He truly goes above and beyond to make guests of the villa feel at home during their stay.
Angler’s Reef is a unique, gated-community that is ideal for families. We’ve met many friendly guests over the years while enjoying the beautiful pool, grounds, and dock area! Great fun for all ages including beautiful sunrises, a manatee sighting at the docks one morning, and a family shark fishing in the evening.
Sandbar Bungalow’s location is perfect for exploring other areas of the Florida Keys. We took a day trip to Key West, a fishing charter, and a 4 hour boat ride. So much to see and do in this area!
The house was meticulous, as always, and if you do have a question prior to, or during your stay Eddie returns your call or text quickly.
Already looking forward to our next stay!!!
Lovely small house in a pleasant community
Everything about this cottage was first-rate. The house was clean and adequately furnished. The pool and boat dockage on the property are well maintained. A channel runs from the boat basin directly to navigable depths of the Atlantic, and access to the bay side is available via Whale Harbor Channel and/or Snake Creek Channel, both of which are close by. This Anglers Reef residence is an excellent spot for a winter fishing vacation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Home was clean and very accommodating. Can't wait to return!
We stayed for a week and could not have asked for a better location. The community was very inviting. Eddie the property manager was excellent, he responded quickly to all of my inquiries. If I could have stayed longer I definitely would have.
We have stayed in Islamorada frequently, but we have found our new favorite place to stay. We were so sad to leave! We loved the location of Anglers Reef. It is near everything we love on land and water. Having our own boat slip was wonderful and easy to navigate. The kids had a great time fishing off the beach and docks. My husband and my son took used the kayaks to do some fishing as well. The community is adorable. We always felt safe and enjoyed riding the bikes (provided at the house) around the neighborhood. The pool area is awesome - it looks over the Atlantic and is cool and refreshing. The house was beautiful and comfortable and had everything we needed. Our only complaint was the master bedroom mattress. I think it might be time to replace it. My husband and I were tempted to take our daughter's bed in the guest bedroom. It was great! We will most certainly be back to stay again.
Other great restaurants and bars: Hog Heaven, Island Grill, Smugglers, Tiki Bar, Ziggies Mad Dogs, Robbie's, Lorelei, Atlantic Edge, Cheeca Lodge, Morada Bay and Pierre's, Oceanview Sports Pub. Also if you have kids or like marine life, Theater of the Sea is a walk away from the property and it's great place to visit.
