We had a wonderful stay in early October. It was an ideal location, and the house was very comfortable and quiet.

Very Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

I realize that in the small print that only two bedrooms had air conditioning but it was 90 plus degrees and close to 100 percent humidity during our stay and we melted. Close to unliveable. And then to have to wash all of our linens before we left, not have any TV to pass the time, and to have a deck that was nothing but peeling paint and crumbling wood, and only one working smoke detector (how is that allowed by NY codes?), left my wife and I sorely disappointed.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for alerting us about the smoke detectors. In terms of number and location of detectors we are up to code, but more importantly our property manager will replace batteries, test, and ensure that all are working before our next guest arrives. On our yearly visit this summer we realized that the deck could use repair, but figured it would be better to replace any rotted boards (which we've done) rather than cancel a reservation or try to strip, repair, and re-stain the deck during a guests stay. We hosted a family reunion on the deck without issue, but we will fully address that in the spring. Meanwhile, our property manager will double check on any other boards that might need attention since we've gone. We have neither cable tv nor central air-conditioning. We do ask our guests to leave the linens in the condition they found them --- a common requirement on the lake. We also state this very clearly in the rental agreement before accepting any reservation deposits.

Lovely home that met the majority of our needs

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this home for a week with our grown sons and their wives. Prior to our stay my husband emailed Terry multiple times with various questions and he was always very prompt with lengthy replies, which really assisted in our vacation planning. The home is very large and the kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need, including 2 crock pots and multiple spices. There are many towels, sheets and other useful items that are readily available for your use. There is a beautiful screened in porch where we enjoyed all our meals and many board games. There are multiple rafts, life jackets, kayaks and yard games and we enjoyed them all!! We really felt at home in this house. We had a couple of very hot nights, so one couple was fairly uncomfortable since there is air conditioning in only 2 of the bedrooms. This would be our only complaint. Overall, a very nice home and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you Terry and family for opening your home to us.

Spacious house, great location, they thought of everything!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived from the Netherlands to find one of the nicest lake houses we've ever seen in the Finger Lakes. The pictures and description on VacationRentals don't do the house justice. With three children (7, 10, and 12 years old), the house was more than large enough, with plenty of sleeping space for everyone. The location is also perfect: a short drive to Watkins Glen, Ithaca, and a wide variety of wineries and breweries. And the convenient lake access was a pleasant surprise -- just walk out the door and into the lake.

What we really appreciated was that the owners literally thought of everything. We only needed to provide our clothes and swimsuits; they provided everything else. The house has two televisions (one with Netflix, the other with regular TV and a Wii) in two separate parts of the house, so the kids could do their thing while we had our own private space. The gas grill (with extra gas canister, a nice touch) worked beautifully, the house has a dishwasher (with detergent), washer/dry (with detergent), plenty of towels and linens, a wide variety of toys for the lake (three kayaks, a wide range of water shoes and life jackets, inflatable toys, etc.), and much more. It's also a very quiet, secluded part of Seneca Lake, so we had a truly relaxing, peaceful week.

In short, if you're looking for the perfect summer getaway in one of most beautiful regions of Upstate New York, this house is for you. Reserve early, as this house tends to book fast. We know we'll be back!

Seneca Lake Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

I grew up visiting the Finger Lakes, and it makes me so happy to be able to return with my own kids and see them enjoy the area too. This house was a perfect place to stay! There was plenty of space inside and out, including a big grassy yard, a safe street for running or biking, and a nice long dock for water access. The view of the lake is beautiful, and water is cool and clear. The neighborhood is quiet, and there is a lot within a short drive to explore. Our family had a fabulous time and we would love to come back again.

Ohana House Review

  • 3 of 5

The location is great, close to the sights and activities we were interested in. There were 4 of us so there was more than enough room and the home is comfortable. There were, however, several shortcomings that I feel compelled to mention. The most notable is the fact that there is no television. Actually, there is an old TV in the upstairs family room, but there is no cable service in the house, so unless you want to watch a video it's basically useless. If the owners do not provide cable they should not indicate on their site that "Television" is available when it is not. It was very disappointing when we sat down in the evening to watch the "Big Game" and, of course, could not. A couple of other irritations included a refrigerator door that continuously swings open on its own, a broken toilet in the downstairs bathroom and 2 coffee pots, both of which are also broken. Overall cleanliness I would give a C. It's too bad that that I need to include these items in my review. The Ohana House has so much potential and they are so easily fixable.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback; all of our other reviewers have given us top marks so we wanted to make sure we addressed the concerns here. Most of our guests stay with us to enjoy being outside at the lake, the wineries, hiking and biking. When we set up the website our children suggested that we include a "television for video games" as we do have an old TV and a Wii for a rainy-day kids activity. We've since deleted any references to TV on the main page as we don't have a tv or cable in the house. Unfortunately, this guest was a last minute reservation and our property manager had scheduled her vacation. We had a temp agency supply a cleaner and neither will be used again. Lastly, we've replaced the coffee pots and tightened a screw on the fridge door. Coffee and cold beverages are a must at the lake, and we provide two full size refrigerators. We apologize that the coffee-maker AND it's back-up failed us. Thanks again for staying with us, Terry and Emily
