Amazing private paradize

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 (two kids, two grandparents, my wife and I) stayed in Steve's house for 4 nights. We are amazed by the beautiful ocean view, luxurious garden and spacious yard. One side of the house is ocean, the other side is surrounded by tropical plants which gives the house a complete privacy. It has a very nice neighbor which greeted me daily when we drove in/out to tour the island. This gave us a sense of security. The lanai is spacious and very comfortable. It was a great pleasure to enjoy breakfast with a ocean view and cool air of Hawaii morning. Overall, we enjoyed the stay very much and definitely will recommend this place to our friends.

Absolutely perfect, peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

This home is wonderful. First, the location is fantastic for quick access to Hilo. I walked from the home to Hilo (about 6 miles) and even though much of it was on the Hawaii Belt Road, there were only two short sections where I ran a bit instead of walking because it was more narrow than I liked. It's well-situated for the rest of island as well: day trips for us included the Saddle Road for bike riding (and Volcano hiking), Papakōlea Beach (Green Sand Beach) (southern tip), Waimea and Waikaloa on the Kona side.

The size was just perfect for our family - 2 adults, 2 teens and 1 grandma. The open floorplan in the living/dining/kitchen area works really well. There was an appliance for everything....grandma took the regular coffee maker to her in-law unit, we used a french press.... truly everything has been thought through. The multiple windows and doors are positioned to always capture a breeze, so we were never too warm. The beds were incredibly comfortable. The shower in the master bath had a rain head that made taking a shower absolutely heavenly. We loved having the windows open at night to listen to the ocean and the coqui frogs. There was shampoo and conditioner and sunscreen and lotion..... Having a washer and dryer was fantastic. The lawn was great for playing croquet...the one thing I'd suggest is putting up a couple of hammocks on hammock stands towards the lower part of the yard, near the fences - I was definitely wanting an afternoon nap or two in a hammock. But really, there was nothing else we really could have hoped for here.

We will definitely find a way to get back to this home. The Hilo side of the island is magical and where we will always come when staying on Hawai'i.

Great venue for a hilo vacation

  • 5 of 5

The video clip of the property at Papaikou is an excellent overview of the property and the commanding view of the Pacific ocean from the property. I was delighted with the house, the layout, and amenities offered. I especially liked the easy access ( 7 minutes) into Hilo, which we visited for dinner. The house is a great jump off point for visiting Volcano National Park and the other sites in area. This was my first time using VRBO and the overall process was smooth and easy to make a reservation. I would highly recommend this property to any traveler to Hilo consider because of the unique privacy and views available, as well as the outstanding accommodations of the house.

Beautiful house and incredible view

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely no complaints about our stay - the house and landscaping are incredibly beautiful and the ocean view is stunning. You could sit on the porch your entire stay in Hilo and be happy. We saw so many whales!! The property manager and maintenance folks are very responsive and helpful and we enjoyed learning how to live in a completely off-grid house. The location is also great for getting to downtown Hilo and the Hamakua Coast. I hope that we can stay here again in the future. We definitely didn't want to leave.
