Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bath

Myrtle on Mumford is a replica of a typical single-story Chincoteague home of the 1920's, with modern amenities added, such as central heat and air conditioning. The house is located in the downtown Main Street historic area, less than a five minute walk from town and this year, 2017, we made several new enhancements for our guests. Both closets have been upgraded with 8 ft of drawer space and additional storage area which includes a rod and hangers for clothing. We have acquired more Chincoteague memorabilia as well as renovated the bathroom. The bathroom was rewallpapered and refurnished as our pictures reflect.

About Ernest Dale Holston

The owners, Dale and Denise Holston, are both natives of Chincoteague Island, and their ancestors here date all the way back to the 1700's.

Ernest Dale Holston purchased this house in 2013

Why Ernest Dale Holston chose Eastern Shore Virginia

The property has belonged to the owners for many years, and Dale lived his first sixteen ears on the same street. This long-standing history on Mumford Street led to the decision to build a vacation home in this location so that visitors could enjoy the atmosphere and spend time in at 1920's style Chincoteague home.

What makes this house unique

As you enter the home, you will see vast assortment of memorabilia from the early 1900's. The home was newly constructed in 2013.

EXCELLENT/HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • 5 of 5

This home is immaculate and has every convenience/detail in place. It is a very convenient location as several times we walked just one block to town. There is very obvious pride of ownership and up-to-date maintenance. The amenities were well-thought, comfortable and very welcoming. The owner has also decorated the home with local historical memorabilia and provided many books regarding Chincoteague and Assateague. The owner made it clear he is available if needed, but definitely not intrusive. Myrtle on Mumford was a wonderful retreat after our days of pony hunts, exploration, shopping and dining. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and give this home and owner the highest recommendation.

Very nice place and the owner was wonderful. Perfectly located you can walk to town. He has all the information you need and the house is charming. The beach is close by and very nice.

Costs in town are very reasonable. Had a great stay and loved the outdoor shower!!!

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

Myrtle on Mumford is the quaint and cozy getaway spot in which our family spent a week's vacation on Chincoteague Island this month. It is conveniently located within reasonable walking distance of shops and businesses on Main Street and Maddox Boulevard. Dale is a wonderful host. He stopped by to introduce himself and make sure everything was ok. Myrtle is well-furnished and lovingly decorated with antiques and historic memorabilia. We were concerned at first that keeping our four-year-old's hands off the collectibles would be a problem; however, other than the old-fashioned phones and the brass bell candlestick, he had little to no interest. My favorite spots are the swing on the front porch, the screened-in back porch, and the well-appointed, modern kitchen where we cooked most of our meals. By week's end, we felt like we were home away from home and did not want to leave. Mumford is a relatively quiet street, and driveway parking is more than adequate. The house is very clean. The washer and dryer are very convenient. We will definitely book Myrtle for any return trips to the area.

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed 4 nights. We walked into the house and found it in pristine condition. It's obvious the owners enjoy their Chincoteague roots. There are artifacts and memorabilia every where. The kitchen was very well out fitted. We cooked dinner "at home" 2 nights. We enjoyed our morning caffeine on the lovely screened in porch. My husband used the outdoor shower each evening while I used the indoor shower. (His preference) The master bed was very comfortable. You did have to be careful when walking around the bed, as there was little clearance between the foot board and the small table which held the TV remote.

We look forward to coming again. We walked all over town, rode our bikes, and truly enjoyed the island and our home away from home.

Quaint, very clean and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This little house was everything we hoped it would be; very cozy, well-equipped, right in downtown Chincoteague yet very quiet. The owners have done a wondeful job providing a well maintained, well equipped and very comfortable rental that is more like a home than any vacation unit we've ever stayed in. We opted to cook most meals at home (fresh seafood of course!) and had no trouble at all due to the abundance of useful cooking gadgets and utensils in the kitchen. Morning coffee on the back porch was a pure pleasure, and each night we strolled to the ice cream stores through quiet streets. We can recommend this rental unit without any hesitation, and we hope to return again soon!
