The home is very secluded, with surrounding vegetation, grassy yard, small pond and a stream that run through, with wildlife to be seen almost daily, especially in the mornings and evenings.
Located in Southeast Idaho-- an hour and forty five minute drive north from Salt Lake City. Surrounded by mountains of public land with trails that are perfect for hikes, walks, biking, dirt biking, four wheeling and horse back riding. Portnuef River is located just below the property with sportsman access for excellent trout fishing. The river has several watering holes for swimming close by, or just watching its many waterfalls. Floating the Portnuef River at Lava Hot Springs is both entertaining and relaxing -especially during the hot Summer months.
Lava Hot Springs is not the only hot springs to visit in Idaho. 46 miles East of our family home, you should visit Soda Springs, Idaho one of the worlds only captive geysers! Now capped and controlled by a timer, the geyser erupts every hour on the hour reaching heights of 100 feet year round.
Our Vacation Home sleeps up to 24 in beds with plenty of extra room for air mattresses, sleeping bags or cots.
I am the oldest boy of 12 children and have 4 children and 1 grand baby. I grew up in West Bountiful, Utah, where I learned to milk at the age of 5, and milked alone at the age of 7. Growing up as a family we made several trips, to Idaho to visit the Crossleys with the Potato harvest, and went fishing afterwards. The trips to Idaho as a young boy, is when I fell in love with Idaho. My parents also made trips to Missouri, and on occasion was able to go, when our milk cows had dried up. My parents ended up buying a farm in Missouri when I was 12, of which my parents still live there today, and Milk a cow together morning and night.
I have been Electrical Engineer for 26 years, and have done work all over the US as well as countries abroad. I currently work an engineer in Idaho, traveling as an engineer have basically stopped. Being able to work from home in 2006 and fairly close to an airport, I decided to buy this place in Idaho. In 2007 I added 3000 sqft to the home, and 2010 the older part of the house was remodeled, making it a great place for family gatherings. This was my primary residence until 2011, where I accepted a position with a large engineering firm out of state in the Kansas City Area, fairly close to the family farm. Missing the people and the lovely state of Idaho, I decided to move back in 2016. My housing manager and I both live close to this property, which is nice so I can also host reunions of my large family.
Joel Kilpack purchased this house in 2006
This property is an ideal place for large family gatherings. It has two large kitchen / family rooms for entertaining large groups. We do several family reunions and average about 4 weddings/receptions a year.
It's great all year around from skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, hiking in the spring, Lava Hot Springs with natural hot pools open year round, white water tubing in the summer. Excellant hunting in the fall.
We really enjoyed Thanksgiving here at this cabin. The Kitchen is the best we have ever seen. Upstairs has a great fun room and bedrooms that was noise free from the rest (for naps). The master bedroom was divine. We had a lot of room for 30 family members - had game tables and a large formal dinner table. It was in a very quiet mountainside area. We were very impressed with the remodels that have been done there. It was close to Lava Hot Springs which we enjoyed.
Loved the house. The kitchen was well supplied with cooking pots and pans. Plenty of room for everyone to sleep. The living room furniture on the main floor is certainly well used! Could probably be replaced. Disappointed that the Jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom was not operational. There were plenty of towels and the home was very clean when we checked in. Great access to both the ski area and the Lava Hot Springs.
We just had a large family reunion here and it was wonderful! The kitchen area accommodates a lot of people. Nice and open. Beautiful home. Very clean. Mutiple Beds and even more room for sleeping bags, tent area outside w trees. Love the view and location close to fun sites such as Lava Hot Springs, Soda Springs, hiking, fishing and hunting. We were able to utilize the large outdoor space w different activities for all ages. It has large yard and multiple decks. Will definitely stay here again and again! Highly recommend this one.
This beautiful property exceeded our expectations! The house is situated in a private, peaceful setting that allows for multiple activities to take place at the same time. We had 50+ people gather here for an incredible adventure. We saw wildlife, enjoyed hiking, fishing, floating the river, visiting the Soda Springs Geyser, outdoor movies on one side of the house, karaoke on the other side, shooting, archery, world's best slip and slide, storytelling gatherings, craft activities, and more. This property is unlimited in the number of things that are possible to do. The kitchen is large and able to accommodate our big group which made our stay very enjoyable. There are trees to hang hammocks for those who want to sleep outside. There is lots of room for blow up mattresses and cots inside and tents and RVs outside. The house is clean and spacious. Even though we had a very large group, it didn't feel crowded at all. The energy in the house and on the property is very positive and welcoming. We were able to create amazing memories here and look forward to returning again and again. We highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a fabulous getaway.
We had a great time. There were 28 of us there and plenty of space. Most of the grand kids wanted to sleep on pads or cots in the upstairs family room. Large kitchen area - great for serving buffet style meals. Master bed room is very large and nice. Down stairs (2 rooms) was old, but adequate. The rest of the house was great. Large decks were great. The grassy area in the shade was a pleasant spot from the hot sun. The house is close to Lava for water activities. Great place to relax after a day in the water.
