About the property

Modern ground floor studio 27m2; en suite shower room, kitchen

On the ground floor of our chalet we have created this modern, comfortable and quite unique, self contained studio -100 metres from the telecabine and with outstanding panoramic views over Lake Geneva. The studio comprises a tastefully furnished main living area; a fully equipped modern kitchen area and an en suite shower room/w/c.There is a large (and very comfortable-according to our guests!) double bed settee providing sleeping for two as well as being a relaxing daytime sofa. There's also a full single size banquette ideally suitable for a child or young adult. A child's cot is also available. Electric radiators and a 'log burner' effect electric fire heat this cosy studio. There's a flat screen TV, (UK and French TV),DVD/ CD and video (bring your own or borrow ours). Wi - Fi available. There's also access to the ski/boot store which adjoins the studio.. A perfect studio for 2/3 people wishing to enjoy a winter or summer break - a quiet, yet central village location just a very short walk to our local restaurants, supermarket, boulangerie etc.

Thollon in summer and winter: Thollon and the Lake Geneva area have a great deal to offer - both winter and summer. . The villlage itself sits on the 'Balcony' Lac Leman' and is surrounded by wonderful alpine scenery - the perfect combination of mountains and lake. (In winter there can be few other resorts where you can ski or board to your heart's content whilst,at the same time, having the most magnificent views over the largest inland lake in Europe!)

The studio is in a quiet location yet very close to the village centre and just 100 metres from the telecabine which takes you directly up to the top of the Pic Des Memises and the ski slopes.

Throughout the winter and summer holiday periods, the village reflects the mood of the season with lots of possibilities available - a lively winter sports resort with several ' apres ski' bars and restaurants and numerous festive activities and events. In summer possibilities include woodland and wonderful alpine meadow walks, tennis, petangue, mountain biking, and paragliding.

Things to do in the local area: There are lots of possibilities all year round. In winter Thollon is the ideal base for the adventurous skier wishing to visit nearby resorts in Switzerland and the Portes du Soleil.

In summer the options are many and varied:- Swimming - close to the village at Plage de la Beunaz (a natural lake with slides and arial runway); the Olympic pool and lidos in Evian and Thonon and the Aquapark at Bouveret; and the Lac Leman with numerous safe and free swimming options including the shallow sandy beach at nearby Exenevex. Evian and Thonon are famous for their spas and Lavey Les Bains with its outdoor heated spa pool is a 'must'.

Then there's sailing, motor boat hire, water skiing and wind surfing on the lake; white water rafting and canoeing on the Dranse; horse riding, tennis, climbing, fishing and golf. And for the really adventutous - the 'Fantistiquecable' mountain to mountain ariel runway! - all within a short drive.

Or perhaps a less energetic trip on one of the Lake Steamers?

Places to visit and other attractions : Lakeside towns and villages - by boat or by car. Evian with it's beautiful esplanade, Casino, gardens art galleries and museums; Thonon with it's pretty port and lakeside restaurants; nearby Yvoire and its neighbour Nernier - wonderful floral medieval fortified villages on the edge of the lake; the bustling Olympic sporting and cultural centre of Lausanne or the world renowned Montreux with its music festivals and Freddie Mercury connections. The Chateaus at Ripaille ( guided tours of the vinyard) and historic Chillon are well worth visiting.

Visit the high alps by cablecar and enjoy the restaurants, spectacular views across snow capped mountains and that special mountain 'stillness' - oh, and the occasional cow bell! The 'goat village' at Linderet -an experience for old and young alike perhaps followed by romantic evening meal at the Bout de Lac as the sun sets on Lake Montriond.Perhaps a trip across the glacier on the Hellbrunner gondola at Chamonix? - an unforgetable experience!

We'd love to help you discover more!

About Ron and Eileen Goldie

Eileen and I are Scottish. We purchased our chalet in 2006 and moved out to Thollon permanently when we retired in 2009. Eileen is a qualified nursery school teacher but most recently worked in a college in the UK supporting special needs students.Prior to retirement I worked in HR..

Why Ron and Eileen Goldie chose Lake Geneva area

We had been on holiday in the area for many years so when we were looking to buy a chalet in the Alps Thollon was an obvious choice! We are so close to Lake Geneva that it is a perfect place to be in the summer! Lots of lake and mountain activities and just a smashing place to relax during those - hopefully (and so far they have been!) long hot Alpine summers. In winter we are just a very short walk (100 meters) from the telecabine which gives us access to our beautiful little family ski area at the top of the Memises mountain. And if we want to ski 'further afield' we are so close to the likes of the Port Du Soleil resorts of Chatel, Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets. We also ski regularly in the Swiss resorts of Villars, Les Diablerets and Verbier - all within one hour's drive from the chalet. So we find it's a perfect place both summer and winter!

What makes this apartment unique

Rather than try to accommodate the usual 6/7 people in a studio of this size, we decided to furnish it for just two or perhaps, at the most, three visitors We feel it is ideal for a couple or for a couple with a young or teenage child. The view from the studio is spectacular right across the lake to Lausanne - it was this beautiful view that 'sold' the chalet to us when we first saw it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thankyou both for everything. The studio is really comfortable and had everything you could possibly need. The bed was really comfortable too.You have all been very friendly and helpful especially Ron for all the local information and for driving us around and Gemma for the great ski tour around Morzine and Avoriaz. The snow conditions in Thollon never seem to disappoint. We had some yummy meals out and have gone home a few pounds heavier! Thankyou for the fondue recipe and for making us feel so at home. We hope to return.

Car: recommended

Thollon sits above Evian on the 'balcony,'of Lake Leman at the base of the magnificant Pic des Memises. With superb panoramic views over Evian and the lake to Lausanne and the Swiss Jura mountains, Thollon is the perfect location for a winter skiing/activity holiday - 50 kilometres of beginner and intermediate slopes with fabulous views over the lake with easy access to the whole of the Port du Soleil ( Chatel, Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets) as well as Chamonix and a number of other Swiss resorts, eg Villars, Gstaad and Glacier 3000. For those not wanting to ski, by hiring snow shoes you can still enjoy Thollon's fabulous lake and mountain views.

In summer there are lovely alpine walks, sailing, water skiing, swimming, riding and golf (including Royal Evian, Les Gets, Avoriaz and Chatel). Montreux, Annecy, Yvoire, Evian, Geneva, Chillon Castle and Gruyeres are all within a short drive.

Winter or summer, the thermal pools at Lavey Les Bains are a 'must' - magic at night in the snow

Other Activities: Canoeing, canyoning, rafting, parapenting, jacuzzi spa, alpine cable 'gliding, mountain biking

Ski: 'The Snowpark at Thollon is ace!' That's according to young snowboarders from the local area as well as visitors who have discovered Thollon's authentic snowpark. New in 2011, it comprises a 20m wide table with jumps of 5, 10 & 17 m in length; a series of modules with Wall Ride & Eboy (a 1.5 metre boy to bounce off); and a junior park with a series of rails & boxes for all levels. There's also a 5m high half pipe and a boardercross. It's the only park of its type to be found in the area.

For the winter of 2013 a new 4 seat chair lift was installed providing speedier access to the top of the ski area. And, for the 2014 season, the old four man telecabine has been replaced by a completely new 10 place cabine.

Thollon appeals to families and to experienced skiers alike. Smaller than, although close to, some of the larger resorts in the Port du Soliel, Thollon has invested heavily in snow cannon, which compliment this north facing resort's excellent and reliable snow record.

Notes:
Thollon is really quite unique - particularly as a skiing resort and as a base for a summer holiday. It combines all the advantages of a winter ski resort but with the proximity of one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Europe. From a weather point of view, the climate can be quite special. As one of the locals said to us, ' the lake is very kind to us'. Since we came to Thollon we have had wonderful summers allowing us to spend lots of time at the numerous lake side beaches and swimming 'plages'. The sunsets over the lake can be quite stunning and, in winter, the largely north facing slopes tend to retain the snow allowing for skiing when the 'season' at some other resorts may be over. By most, Thollon is still a largely undiscovered 'gem' - those who have found it tend to return year after year!. Our studio is extremely comfortable (as our guests have confirmed) and we will do all that we can to help make your stay with us as enjoyable as possible

A great studio apartment in a superb location

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable and well appointed studio apartment. It is cosy, clean and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay in this charming village. It is just a few minutes walk from the ski lift, ski hire shops and ski school offices. It could hardly be more convenient. There are fabulous views of the lake, lots of bars and restaurants nearby and a good supermarket nearby. Our hosts Eileen and Ron were most welcoming and hospitable and looked after us so well. Ron booked our ski hire and ski school in advance for us and they both ensured we had everything we needed. I would like to thank them both for their warmth and hospitality during our stay.

Warm, Cosy, Well Equipped, Tranquil and Stunning

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you arrive you feel welcome in this perfect Studio, nothing is too much trouble for the hosts though they let you enjoy your break without intruding. There is everything you need in the studio and the little extra touches made it far more than we expected, super fast wifi, full english TV, DVDs and games etc. The view from the bed of the lake is stunning, I could happily spend the day in bed looking at the view. There is plenty to do outside of the studio, shops and restaurants are all within a few minutes walk. There are some fantastic walks around the village for all abilities and a trip up in the telecabine to the Pic is a must, you really feel like you're on top of the world. This truly is a hidden gem in terms of the village, the studio and the hosts combined with views that can't be beaten anywhere in the world means I would recommend this to any couple looking for a relaxing break. Thank you Ron and Eileen for a Christmas and New Year we will never forget.

Incredible Location & Hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful hospitality from booking to departure. Ron & Eileen are genuinely lovely, warm hosts with an extremely convenient and cosy studio to offer. Everything you need can be found in the studio for a comfortable and homely stay, with cleanliness and little touches (such as fresh milk and chocolates) clearly high on the owners agenda.

For the skiers/boarders amongst you.....you really could not be any closer to the main gondola and ski hire shop, it is directly opposite the chalet. In addition a couple of fabulous restaurants are within a one minute walk and incredible views are literally outside your door. Ron and Eileen have fantastic relationships in place with local establishments which helps enormously with planning meals and/or excursions in and around the area. Their knowledge of the region is a huge benefit to staying here as they have lived in the area for many years. Overall, a true gem of a place!
