The Brand family has been running guided expeditions through some of Alaska's most breath taking backcountry and waterways for nearly twenty years. It has been our love for the outdoors that brought us to Homer eleven years ago. We have been lucky enough to share our passion with outdoorsmen from around the globe and look forward to doing so for years to come.
Christi purchased this apartment in 2013
The accommodations were perfect for what we needed. Everything was clean and orderly. The rooms and beds were comfortable. It was fun to get acquainted with Paul and Christi and their boys. They were excellent.
We stayed here during our family fishing trip in early August. The location is perfect. It's close to the Safeway, Homer Spit, and restaurants. The owner, Christi and her family, are on-site and available at any time if needed. The fan in the master bathroom is incredibly loud but all else was lovely. We were tired each day after fishing and the area is very peaceful and easy to relax. The owner sent us warm banana bread one evening which was a lovely treat after a rainy day of fishing! We'd certainly return to this rental property.
This VRBO is in a great location as you can walk less than 5 minutes to the nearby Pratt Museum, local art galleries, playground and one of best dining options in Homer: Cups Cafe (make reservations!). Take a 10-15 minute walk and you can get a great breakfast or lunch at Comic Cafe, Islands & Oceans Visitor Center, and Old Town/ Bishop's Beach area where you can get something delicious at Two Sisters Bakery or Maura's. Take a 6 minute drive to the Homer airport, local Farmer's Market on Saturday, local touring and fishing options (i.e., bear viewing tours/ halibut, salmon, etc. charters/ St. Augustine's kayaking tours which offer wonderful full, half day, or overnight packages/ Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies' Creatures of the Dock tour which is perfect for kids), get a great breakfast or lunch at Fresh Sourdough Express and then enjoy even more great food on the Homer Spit at places like Finn's Pizza, Captain Patty's Seafood, Carmen's Gelato (the salted caramel is amazing!).
The lodging itself is on the second floor so you have ideal views when weather permits, of course. It is very clean housing and the property is well kept. I believe it is ideal for groups of 5-6 as it has 3 bathrooms each with its own shower (there's nothing like a good hot shower after being in the Alaskan wilderness for days, trust me!), 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, and laundry facilities on site. Please know that it is not the Ritz Carlton of NYC so don't expect silk sheets and mints on pillows nightly or a bell hop. However, it is honestly a really lovely place to stay when in Homer, a true home away from home type of place. I will add that owners who live below are some of the kindest people you will ever meet so much so I actually hugged them good-bye at the end of our 4 night stay. Further, when my daughter lost her beloved necklace. The owner did a search and rescue mission for it, miraculously found it, and promptly, mailed it back to us. Now that's a service you don't get everyday and further, speaks volumes on how well the owners take care of their guests, like family. Enjoy! You are going to have a wonderful stay in Homer!
The apartment was clean and spacious, just as advertised. Having 4 bedrooms with separate bathrooms was a treat.
