Shah Place II is one of Istanbul Place Apartments' sensitive restoration projects. It's on the first floor - one flight of original marble stairs - of a grand and elegant 19th century building close to Galata Tower. The street below the apartment is atmospheric with small, trendy boutiques and cafe-restaurants, yet is quiet and residential at night. Galata's pedestrianised area is just around the corner with its lively pavement cafes and restaurants plus all the buzz of this bohemian district.
The apartment building is only 2 minutes walk from Sishane metro station, 1 minute walk from Tünel funicular and a downhill walk to connect with the tram for Sultanahmet. Famous Istiklal Avenue is less than 5 minutes walk up the hill.
The bedrooms are stylish: one double and one twin, each with chic velvet headboards and high quality crisp white linens. There's a good sized, well-equipped kitchen with high-end appliances including dish-washer. The bright and spacious dining room is in the centre of the apartment. In the comfortable living room there's a large feather-cushioned sofa, armchair and a bar table with stools overlooking the interesting and authentic streets below. The shower room is a generous size with loo.
This apartment is 100m2 in total and well laid-out, with large windows, lovely high ceilings and some frescoes. The exposed floorboards and wooden panelled doors are all original, giving a homely yet stylish atmosphere. The bedrooms comfortably accommodate four people and a fifth/child on a fold-out bed in the living/dining room is possible.
Guests will have the complete privacy of the entire apartment.
In the same building - 2 floors above, across the hall - we also offer Shah Place I apartment.
The two apartments together are ideal for a large group of up to 9 people.
Galata has a genuine, very welcoming and diverse community with an intriguing mix of cafes, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques. Elegant 19th Century buildings line cobbled streets, with discoveries waiting around every corner. No matter where you wander, you’ll always find your way back to Galata Tower, which has been a well-loved landmark for the last 700 years.
Metro, bus, tram and ferry stops are all only a few minutes walk away. The famous Istiklal Avenue is around 5 minutes stroll. You can be in Sultanahmet (for the big sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı, Blue Mosque etc.) in about 12 minutes by public transport or 20 minutes on foot. In the other direction, by Metro, you can be in Şişli (for Istanbul’s biggest shopping mall) in 10 minutes or Levent (for Istanbul’s business district) in 15 minutes.
There are many taxi ranks around and some secure car parks too.
Interaction with Guests:
This is a small Turkish-British family project. Julia and Tarkan used to live in Istanbul then Singapore and are now balancing life between England and Istanbul. If we're in Istanbul during your stay we'd love to meet you.
Your questions and booking will be handled by us wherever we are. When you arrive in Istanbul Tarkan’s wonderful family and/or our friendly team will welcome you to your apartment, give you the keys and explain about practicalities and the neighbourhoods.
We’ll all help you as much as you need and we're always only a phone call or email away.

Monika (part of the Istanbul Place team) greeted us and was most helpful with suggestions and ideas.
Apartment was on first floor, but our 81 year old mother coped well with gently spiraling staircase from entrance.
Lovely little cafes directly outside apartment, but not noisy and only open late at weekend. Easy walking access to Tunel (5 mins for shops), Taksim (10 mins), Galata Tower (5mins), Metro station (sishane 5 mins, Grand Bazaar 10 min walk (to Ortakoy)and 5 min tram journey). Tunel bars, cafes and restaurants lively at night. As ever (we have been to Istanbul many times) everyone is welcoming and food fantastic. If you want your breakfast with fantastic view, go to Galata Kanok Cafe and go to 3rd floor out on to terrace - a gem!
Summary - a lovely little hideaway but with easy access to vibrant world of sound, colour and taste
We were so comfortable here during a brief stay in Istanbul. The luxurious linens and comfortable beds in this stylish apartment were a haven during a busy stay in the city.
The location was perfect for walking and taking public transportation to major sites and to the Asian side of the city, with plenty of charming cafes and restaurants nearby. Hope to return again soon for a longer stay!
My husband and I have stayed in Sahkulu II twice so far. The apartment is cozy and the location is perfect. Although the building is quite old, the apartment is modern, clean, and nicely furnished. It has lots of windows with street view and natural light. It is on a quiet street and yet it is just few minutes away from the attractions of Istiklal Street (shops, cafés, restaurants...). It is also a 10 minute walk downhill to Galata Bridge that leads you to the bazars and the old historic part of the city. There is a funicular around the corner from the apartment that provides an easier mode of transport between Istiklal Street and the Galata Bridge below.
The interaction with the istanbul!place team was professional and smooth. We especially appreciated the flexibility in the check-in/check-out times.
In summary, this apartment is a perfect base to explore Istanbul and the old city by daytime and to enjoy the nearby vibrant nightlife of the modern town.
