Our upstairs apartment has a private entrance and is located on a dead end town road in the middle of a 35 acre farmstead. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboats can be rented at the state beach, an easy walk from our property. Hiking trails to the top of Mount Elmore lead to an observation tower with panoramic views. The area offers numerous year round recreational and tourist activities including downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling (the state VAST trail intersects our property), and a variety of nearby cultural and arts events. Spend your vacation enjoying the beauty of Vermont in this quiet, gorgeous, conveniently located getaway!
We bought this house when it was a run down dilapidated old farmhouse, it is over a hundred fifty years old. During the last 30+ years we have completely rebuilt the house, adding a barn and maple sugarhouse and most recently a large addition including our vacation rental apartment on the second floor of the new structure. We are retired teachers who raised our children here. Our kids attended the Elmore One Room School, the only one room school remaining today in Vermont! Brent works the land cutting hay, producing maple syrup, and growing vegetables, berries and flowers. We raise chickens and have a few beef cattle. We love our farmstead in quiet, beautiful Lake Elmore!
Sharon Fortune purchased this apartment in 1980
The house was originally purchased with a small amount of land, then subsequently we bought the remaining 34+ acres which surround our home. We are on a quiet, dead end town road which affords beautiful views and privacy, yet we are very close to Elmore village, the state park and lake.
The location of our farmstead is so beautiful, with meadow, mountain and lake views. Every season affords its own beauty. The views from the deck in the apartment are breathtaking. Our location is ideal as we are close to Stowe and Montpelier and only an hour from Burlington.
We were 3 cousins coming together from London, Boston and Ottawa for a reunion. We enjoyed this beautifully maintained modern well-crafted apartment by the owners, full kitchen amenities, well-heated, excellent wifi, cable Tv / DVD. Lovely setting, not on lake but close to lake and gorgeous view of lake & mountains from the apartment balcony. Sharon was very helpful in responding to my questions and gave great restaurant recommendations. Thrilled about the homemade raspberry jam that welcomed us to the apartment. Lost Nation Brewery in Morrisville had delicious fondue, wholesome food and great selection of beers. Kismet in Montpelier had an exceptional brunch- highly recommended.
The farm turned out to be everything my wife and I wanted - a real, working farm, perfect and very affable hosts, a clean and beautifully appointed apartment above the barn garage with a view to the west and Lake Elmore and the mountain behind, convenient location for touring around the area, and even a close-by Urgent Care facility in Montpelier to care for my poison ivy I brought along on the trip...Can't say enough about this place except that we'll be back!
The hosts of this property are incredibly helpful with local activities to try and how to get there with the help of their knowledge of the shortcuts to get their too. The maple syrup and fresh jam gifts are honest to goodness award winning and the property is super clean, neat, tidy and beautiful. We walked down to the lake for a swim. Hiked to the fire tower across from the house at the top of the mountain and enjoyed some local food that was amazing! Highly recommend the vegan wrap at lost nation brewery, it has stayed with me in my dreams it was so good! Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer, but we would definitely return. Thank you so much for the hospitality!
My husband, myself, and three children (11,13 and 15) loved our stay in Elmore! Firstly, the apartment is beautiful, spacious, and has all the conveniences of home. We looked forward to returning there every day after our excursions, and relaxing as we watched the picturesque sunset behind the mountains. Second, Brent and Sharon are lovely people. We enjoyed our conversations with you both and appreciated the information you provided about the area and the delicious blueberry preserves and maple syrup you gave upon arrival. They went quickly! Finally, we just loved the town and exploring Vermont! The hike up to the fire tower in Elmore State park was so much fun and had breath taking views. We were able to visit the Cabot cheese factory, Ben and Jerry's, the Morse Sugar House, Zipline at Smuggler's Notch, and even drive over to catch a Moose tour in NH. We had such a great stay at your apartment in Elmore. It was a perfect vacation and allowed us to create many wonderful memories for our family. Thanks so much for your hospitality!
We spent a long weekend and it was the most amazing experience. The views are spectacular, in fact there was so beautiful that we didn't want to leave to do other activities. You have a beautiful view on the lake. It is located steps from Elmore Lake beach, steps from Elmore State Park, about 20 minutes from Stowe. There are some beautiful hikes you can do in Elmore, no need to take the car to get to the park.
There is a general store very close by (10 min walk) with everything you need included home made pastry.
The house is beautiful, it has everything you need, very clean, most beautiful decoration, furniture, amenities. Everything is very high quality. Very good internet, cable tv ( we were able to watch Euro 2016 games). It can fit 5 people.
Sharon and Brent are very very nice and very educated people. It was a pleasure to speak with them.
This property was wonderful. Brent was very friendly and welcoming. The apartment was beautiful. Everything was nice, clean and up to date. Everything we needed was there. Will stay here anytime we return to the area. Thank you for a lovely stay.
